Say I cancel it. If I receive the phone and decide I do want AC, how long do I have to decide?

I always purchase it. It sucks to have to pay for it, but the one time I didn’t (iPhone 4) my phone went flying out of my hands on a brick patio and shattered. Always worth it IMO. Like all insurance - it protects you against what you can’t afford to have happen and to reply a 512GB Pro Max - no thank you.

I have the AT&T coverage which at least covers 4 devices (damage, theft and loss) and you don’t have to pick which 4 until you need the coverage. It covers tablets as well as phone. They have deductibles but I think AppleCare also does for accidental damage. It’s only a $29 deductible for screens. I’m sure that too is a rip, but I have 10 devices so this is the cheapest way to go for me.

Always worth it if you use it

I cracked my lens last year and was paying £15 for insurance and still had to pay £100 excess so Apple care would have been cheaper option

Extended warranties are sold for profit. If electronic devices are going to fail, they usually fail early on, when the device is still under manufacturer warranty (see bathtub curve for electronics). It is exceedingly rare for a device to fail in that 2-3 year window covered by an extended warranty. Additionally, on the rare occasion that something does fail in that 2-3 year window, the warranty still doesn't necessarily pay for itself, because often times you can still repair the problem for less than the cost of the extended warranty (e.g. battery replacement).

My advice is to open a bank account, and every time you're going to purchase an extended warranty, simply put the money in the bank account instead. On the rare occasion a device does fail in that 2-3 year window, pay for it out of the bank account. In the long run, you'll come out far, far ahead.

most are buying it for accidental damage, not the possibility of a manufacture defect.

AppleCare is my invisible case that allows me to use the phone how it was designed.

this. Outside of myself, I never see people rocking naked phones.

I have been purchasing AppleCare since iPhone 4 and never used it. I only keep my phone one year so will go without it this year. Wish me luck.

Same here. I cringe at the OOW pricing for accidental damage without AC+. I plan on keeping my Pro for 2 years, but if I upgrade next year, I'll just get a refund for the unused amount.

If you upgrade annually and use a good case then no, it's not worth buying Apple Care. However, if you keep beyond the first year and or don't use a case then yes, it is worth purchasing Apple Care.

You can transfer it to another phone if you upgrade

Even if you upgrade every year it’s worth it if you have damage to your phone

There was no rhyme or reason for when I purchased AC+. Some years I would get it, others I wouldn't. What was consistent was I would always end up putting my phone in a case. So I just opted to stop purchasing AC+ altogether.

I've never bought it. At this point, even if I had to replace a screen, it would still be cheaper than years of applecare. I'd consider theft protection though if I traveled more.

I’ve had 2 iPhones over 10 years and never needed a repair. I’ll keep self insuring although my spouse broke their camera lens with a drop. I do worry about that now that they protrude since that essentially meant a new phone too.

It’s rough cause it only takes that one time. I have not dropped a device in my time owning iPhones, etc.. but if and when I do, I know I can get a replacement for $99 or $29 for a screen repair vs $329

If you’re buying more than 2 warranties, SquareTrade’s Family Plan is a good deal. $20/month covers up to 4 phones. Covers only accidental damage, not loss or theft.

Wow, I didn’t realize it was $549 for out of warranty replacement for my 11 Pro and $599 for Pro Max if it cracked or if the whole phone needed replacement. Yeah, that’s a no brainer at this point.

I always feel AppleCar or whatever extended warranty are rip off for cellphones. I have always put a case on all my phones (Android or iPhone) and screen protectors as well. I never use naked phone, I will purchase a case and a screen protector right after cellphone purchase. If I am careful enough, I would need spend that 129 dollars for AppleCare. 129 dollars (Canadian dollars) can do lots of other things, including buy a nice case and screen protectors.

Sure but between spouse and I $400/2 years x 10 years ownership would have been 2k. We could buy 2 new phones for that - we’ve come out ahead. It only makes sense for them to sell if they are making money.

I usually buy AppleCare Plus for my iPhones and upgrade every year. Never once had to use it. Was thinking of not bothering this time round but am unsure. I was refunded 1/2 of last years AC+ from Apple so if you upgrade every year it is in effect 1/2 the price as you get the other 1/2 back. I'm in the UK. Got £104 back so it only cost me £95. Still undecided....!!!1

It’s gunna take one drop where the phone breaks where you’ll regret it that you don’t have it. Don’t ever bet on no accidents happening. It’ll be the one time you don’t get AppleCare that you’ll have an incident lol. That’s how it always ends up. Just my .02

It’s a money maker same as memory and Apple knows this, that why they keep 64gb as bottom so many feel the need to buy more memory, same is true with AppleCare, the phone is getting so expensive that most feel the need to add the $150 on to protect $1200.
