How awesome would it have been if they included AppleCare with the purchase of the iPhone X. Just a thought.
Anytime people say things like this, I assume they find no value in the features that are supposed to distinguish this model from the lower-priced model. In this case, the OLED display has no value, Face ID (and all the sensors needed to make it work) has no value, OIS for the telephoto back camera has no value, a Plus-sized display in a standard-sized case ... I'm not saying people
ought to value those things - different strokes for different folks.
However, bundling a $150-$200 product into a product priced $200 higher than iPhone 8 Plus would be an admission by Apple that the iPhone X is not worth the money they're asking. That they simply cannot do.
Like any other company that offers products at varying price points, Apple expects that they can justify the higher price to those who are
able and willing to pay a higher price. In fact, if Apple does their job right, the people who do decide to pay the higher price will believe they're getting
greater value than the difference in price suggests.
To paraphrase a line from Disney/Pixar's
The Incredibles, when
every model is Deluxe, than no model is.
There are people out there who are worried that an iPhone with a glass back will be more likely to need repair than an iPhone with a metal back. If they turn out to be right, then Apple
has to price AppleCare+ for the new iPhones higher than it's been for iPhones 5-7. Consider it the hidden cost of wireless charging.
