Click on Warranty & Service Pricing, then "My iPhone is not eligible for warranty service. What are my service options?"

There's a bit of wiggle room though, no telling how it will be interpreted/applied in the future:

I wonder if this includes a lost or stolen iPhone. The representative that I talk to on the phone said that the out of warranty service fee covered stolen phones, however I don't see that on their website.

I have a life proof case on my iPhone. Honestly, I am more concerned about losing my iPhone or it being stolen as opposed to a being damaged.

I got my 4s at BB and since they didn't sell Applecare, and no other places had any for Sprint available, i got Black Tie protection with every intention of cancelling as soon as i can get to an Apple store to get Applecare+. Found out that due to my living in Florida, I can't buy it over the phone, so next week, i'll be purchasing it at a retail store.

For the $199 iPhone 4s replacement out of Warranty...Is that price just good on the 16gb, or does that work for any size? I mean, they're getting the extra money upfront for the larger size, so are you getting hit twice at $399 for a 64gb version?

I talked to one of the Applecare specialists on the phone, and was told that the $199 is the starting point. They will place a hold on your credit card for the $199, and if the repair costs less than the $199, they will only charge what it costs, but if the repair is more, then you are charged more than the $199. So if you have a run in with liquid, it may be quite a bit more than $199 to repair. Never assume that just because the initial cost of an item (such as a $15 A5 processor) is the same that they will charge you for a repair, it will more likely be much more for individual parts, just like a car.

I bought the Applecare+ for all 3 of the 4S phones that I have bought. My son has the dropsies all the time, and if I have to pay the $50 to replace it even once, it is still less than the $199 out of warranty repair. Oh, and the standard warranty does NOT cover customer damage to a phone at all, only product defects.

You can now add it from your Sprint account, no need to try stores, or call. Log-in and you should get the special offer to add it.

GoCare. I've never used it, but I am considering it for my wife and I. Family plan is lower in price, and you get unlimited claims on all plans. Also, technical failures down the road (i.e. power button failure, or headphone jack stops working) are also covered for free most of the time. AND there's no time limit on when you can buy.

http://www.gocare.com/iphone-insurance

Make sure you read the terms and conditions thoroughly. A quick scan of them shows:
- Unlimited claims, but only up to the retail value of the device
- Only 1 replacement allowed per device.
- If you purchase your plan online, there is a 30-day waiting period during which you do not have coverage. Coverage begins on the 31st day.
- Excluded: Devices completely dead on arrival within 60 days after purchasing a plan, meaning there is no ability for us to repair the device due to catastrophic damage from water damage or other incidents. Broken glass, buttons, ports, etc are not considered dead on arrival.
- Doesn't looklike you can transfer coverage to another owner if you decide to sell the phone.
- Also keep in mind, convenience. You could be without your phone for several days as they try to repair it (they give themselves up to a week to find parts), or decide if they should send you a refurb one. And you have to pay shipping to get your phone to them.

It may be a good plan for you; I'm really not trying to pass judgment. It's just that many people don't read all the terms and conditions and end up without the coverage they were expecting.

I live in Florida and I purchased Applecare+ over the phone.

They did have to transfer me to someone else in order to process the order. Who knows, maybe they transferred me to someone in Florida?

Apple keeps telling me that if I lose my phone or it gets stolen I can pay the $200 fee for replacement. I just cannot find that information anywhere in print on the website. I'm just trying to clarify that.

I'm not suggesting that it's part of AppleCare or that it should be.

Oh. Since we're in an AppleCare+ thread, that's the context in which I interpreted your question.

I'd ask whomever at Apple is telling you this to point it out to you. I know I've never heard of them doing so, but I've also not heard of people going to them to ask them to do so.

I would suggest that if your phone is 32gb or 64gb, its probably a good idea to get applecare to cover the high cost of the phone.

I'm not suggesting that it's part of AppleCare or that it should be. I just wonder if they would let us pay that out of warranty fee for a lost or stolen phone in general.
Doubtful. Too easy to abuse that way if you're not handing in the old one. If you want insurance (to cover loss) then get insurance.

Yeah I'll do that. I need to see it in print.

Two years ago I was told by Apple if I broke my 3GS, Apple would fix it for a $200 flat. The only requirement is I bring something in to be fixed. So for example, if a steam roller rides over my phone I simply need to bring the flattened mess and $200 to the Apple store to receive a repair/replacement.

When I purchased my iPhone 4s at launch, the Apple employee told me the policy was still in effect.

So here is my analysis:

Apple+ = $100 fee + $50 per Incident
No Apple = $0 fee +$200 per Incident

So Apple+ is only insuring a $50 loss but cost $100 even without a loss! I don't see how that is possibly a good deal.

I had my iPhone 3GS for two years and it still works and looks good. If I had purchased Apple+ I would have spent $100 for nothing.

Ordered using the Apple 800 number for apple care. 15minute wait then 2 minute purchase.

Just feel this is better that the Squaretrade warranty.

I've used AMEX for all my iPhone purchases, if it breaks I'm covered? How do I file a claim and is it just warranty or insurance?

It doubles the standard warranty. So any repairs are covered. You pay for the repair and then submit it to them for a reimbursement.

----------

Hmm... just a thought... but AMEX covers only manufacturer's warranty but not breakage. But if I get AppleCare+ and say bust my phone and pay the 200 for a new phone... AMEX probably reimburses you for that phone... that would be a great deal!

The reason to do this over using only the AMEX warranty is because the manufacturer's warranty doesn't cover breakage outside of wear and tear... but this would actually allow you to get your 200 dollars back after you totally f up your phone.

squaretrade can do it 3x...

and it's $89.99 :)

can't go wrong withe either one...

check out there review on amazon site, etc...pretty good from what I read.

1. go to store, pay the $200 replacement phone..get your phone
2. send them a copy of the receipt
3. received a refund of $200.

not sure when you get charge for the $50 deductible fee...before or after.

Does anyone have any experience with squaretrade? Just as reliable than apple?

At ST you get $599 to spend for the 2 years. So if you break a few times and have other repairs you could chew it up.

Also you assume that Apple will continue to replace at 199. There have been posts from them to the contrary, and a $849 iphone can get pretty expensive to repair / replace. Rather not have the hassle.

With Applecare I get 2 full years of unlimited manufacturer repairs and 2 full replacements.

its all a matter of comfort level.

You assume:

A store is near.
Apple will continue the $199 replacement.
