If you are telling the truth, no need to ask. Just post the thing on YouTube. Something like that would go off the charts.

Post it please. Then post the link here. I'll forward to Gizmodo, Engadget, and other sites. It will be global viral and on NY Times front page by tomorrow morning.

Excuse me if this has been said but.....

in the photo it shows the GSM receiver on the RIGHT and the bottom.... so why would the cell reception go down in the bottom LEFT corner???

yes I have heard the "it's shorting out the receiver" argument.... but why wouldn't wifi die as well, if not worse since the wifi receiver is definitely smaller?

Yea I called left a message. No one returned my call in 48 hours!

This is over. Apple wins. We loose or choose to loose if we keep the device.*

There will be little mention going forward in the main stream media as they are scared to death of being black balled by the company and Jobs. The bloggers on the other hand will write and report on this conspiracy for the next 50 years like the die hard Kennedy single bullet zealots. Everyone loves a good conspiracy theory now they have one the bumper!

I think it's more likely media outlets will report it less, or rather more cautiously, because they are beginning to realize many reported without research, jumped to press with the original accusations, when very very quickly the outrage itself was overtaking the accusations as far as factual reliability and newsworthiness is concerned, and they are in jeopardy of becoming the story themselves because journalists are supposed to be good at journalism, where accuracy is far more important than expediency. I think they'll all just ignore their mistakes and hope everyone else does too, just like we hope about our own mistakes. We intentionally forget so we can move on.

But it is rather clear that no matter what Apple does, it will be wrong. They should do nothing, but what is their natural progression to do, and say nothing when they do it, just like they've always done.

Nope. It's all unofficial. I get it that you are referring to Walt Mossberg review. Never has Apple said officially anything about software fix.

No, but is there reason to doubt what Mossberg said? They don't need to publicly state a software update is coming if their official line is that there is no physical reception issue.

Apple will probably admit there is a problem when the refund window is passed to prevent returns. Or they can simply fix the problem quietly and never admitting to it in the first place.

Just wanted to report my experience...

I have been one of those complaining and screaming about the loss of signal situation when holding the phone like I normally do. It would drop when I had a case on it and even faster when I didn't and had the phone as its normal naked self.

I live north of San Francisco about 20miles. Around my house holding it the normal way it drops signal fast.

Today I went to San Francisco and the problem seemed to no longer happen no matter how hard I tried to reproduce the problem.

So location to cell towers does play a factor.

What's pathetic is that they probably knew of this issue prior to launch. Even if they didn't for them to not comment and basically tell everyone that there isn't a problem is absolute horsechit!

Apple can EAD!

The problem with most other internal cell phone antennas is that they are too close to the RF chips. Ideal would be a quarter wavelength to the tip. But that's larger than the cell phone.

You are standing a whole lot closer to the wifi access point than to the nearest cell tower. Maybe 25 meters vs. kilometers/miles.

iphone reception and design flaws

iphone 4 should be ready for the market at least when it comes down to the basics
'Making calls and signal strength'
As far as all the new features growing pains are expected and early adopters know this
I purchased the first iphone on day one and put up with the early adopter issues as it was a totally new product
This iphone is version 4 and it should at least hold a signal to enable phone calls at the very least
Apple techs had plenty of time to test this
It is also a great pity that a fine new phone design touted as the leica of phones has to be hidden by a bumper in order to make calls easily
As an apple user for 16 years I expected a little more

It amazes me that early adopters are shocked, shocked to find something wrong with a new product. It comes with the territory. I'm with Apple on this one. They'll fix it eventually, but let's not forget the most important thing: You have an iPhone 4 and 308 million people in the country don't.

Yay, you!

Oh dear!

Enjoy the ride, but don't forget to hold it the right way - the Apple way!

You can watch the bars start to drop and quickly switch hands before the call drops.

When the phone rings, I answer it and put it to my ear. Unfortunately I don't have an eye in my ear, so I can't monitor the bars and listen to the person on the other end at the same time. The first I will know of a weak RF environment is when the call drops out. Then it will be too late to change hands.

Maybe that's why you've had so many dropped calls before?

The point I made previously was that I DIDN'T get dropped calls before...

Most people just blamed AT&T.

I'm in the UK. AT&T isn't.

Customer service told me yesterday the fix should be out in a few days

Posted from my I phone4 in my left hand with no bars :(

EAD??????

I think in your hysteria you left out a letter.

Typical IQ of the frantic ranting iP4 motor morons....

I can't believe some people back Apple up no matter what. Now I like some of the Apple's products, I got an iMac myself. But the fact that Apple deny's there being a problem is what annoys me. Now I can't be sure, but I think Apple overlooked this issue, and i doubt there is a fix for it, because the problem of reception arises only when you hold the iphone.. If you leave it on a table the reception is perfect, as soon as your fingers are blocking the antenna the reception either drops or you get low wifi/3g reception.

Anyway if there was a fix I'm sure apple would have announced it. The fact that they deny any signal issues tells me that there is no fix.

This is great entertainment!

Meanwhile my iP4 is working like a champ.

Newsflash. Your IP4 is just as ****ed as everybody else's. You just haven't been in a location that causes the symptoms to show yet. Unless you are rooted to the spot, it's just a matter of time.
