I got my Iphone 4 from Houston early Thursday morning, which turned out having serious reception problem--- 99% of the time, just No service, for three days. I was able to convince Apple staff that it was a bad copy, and they made an appointment with me on Saturday and gave me a new one (they apparently have some reserved for service department), which work perfectly so far.

I was planning to buy it when it arrives here in Canada but it looks like this is really a hardware issue now. I will wait for next gen.

isnt everyone still within their return period at this point? if you are having an issue and dont like the document, why not simply return/exchange your unit?

what's funny is, i can bet that majority of you don't even hold your phone like that.

one person says they have a problem, and then a couple people go looking for the problem and some find it.

it's like dust under the screen... i was okay with my iPhone until everyone started complaining about it. i go look and surely there is dust. same thing can be said for light leak.

ALSO, people are apparently having this issue on the 3GS. i'm not, so i'm gonna say i likely won't have the problem when the iPhone 4 comes to Rogers. just sayin...

Classy post Gooberton... your mom would be proud.

Sorry if I offended your bff, the point is, this issue doesn't impact everyone because of many theories, though I feel it's mainly location and signal strength.

Thanks for the maturity!

1) they charge you a restock fee,
2) still lingering hope that  will make this right. Hard to give up hope on old heros no matter how they seem to be screwing you over.

I went into 3 Apple stores and tried to make the Bars drop and none of them did on any phone! My evidence is 3x stronger than yours!
A previous poster said that an Apple Store employee said that there was an AT&T micro cell in the back of the store to keep the signal strong.

Edit:
Someone beat me to it.

It must really be pissing you off to know that some of us (probably the majority) are not experiencing any of these problems, or certainly to the degree the hysterical ones are.

Most people, when they have no problem, don't spend time on forums such as these.

I am only here for the laughs.

p.s. All you have to do is not cover one tiny area. How complicated is that?

Agreed. I watched a bunch of the YouTube videos where people replicate the problem and iv'e never really seen anyone hold the phone like that. I picked up my phone to see how I hold my iPhone 2g and I use one finger opposite my thumb with my index finger stabalizing the back. I believe I adapted this years ago for both comfort and because I believed holding my entire hand around the phone blocked the signal and caused heat problems. The videos all show people holding the phone with all their fingers on one side or "meat pawing" the entire phone inside their palm. Just like with any product, there are a few with manufacturing problems. Take the phone back and get a new one. If it still doesn't work for you, get a different phone altogether. I'm not sure why people are so militant about this other than I have learned that most of my fellow Americans are idiots.

Now you too can learn the power of the paragraph!

hmmm didnt realize i needed to put all of my thoughts in the form of a college term paper.....damn next time ill be sure and write the whole thing using MS Word and do a formal outline and text & bibliography etc just so you are happy.... piss off who cares its a freeking forum engage in the conversation or **** already

Why are you people defending a company that is knowingly screwing over their loyal customers?

Apple lured people into falling in love with them. It made them feel special. And love makes blind. Apple is an egoistical relationship partner, lying, deceiving - and denying it.

Wifi

i still don't understand how this doesn't affect the wifi antenna. if it's causing the cellular antenna to short, shouldn't they both short?

i have seen many people ask this, but i have not been able to see anyone attempt to respond. I agree that it's an issue, but why isn't the issue replicated on the wifi antenna?

I've posted twice about this. In landscape mode with my left hand covering the top of the phone (where the headphone jack is) my signal degrades.

I contacted my lawyer, Jackie Chiles, and he feels certain that Apple has violated one/several of my civil/human rights and that it is one of my inalienable rights to be able to hold my cell phone any damn way I want to.

He said my lack of reception was due to Apple's deception.

Apple is gonna PAY DEARLY for this.

I think this is all silly. Too many people over reacting about things. If you are unhappy with the phone nobody said you have to keep it. There is no rule saying you must have an iPhone 4. Personally I have to almost crush my phone to get it to drop 2 bars. I have never had it go to no service. I use both my right and left hand when I talk on my phone and don't see any problems. I haven,t had a single dropped call with the iPhone 4. If it bothers you that much take it back.
With that said I think Apple could have handled it better than they did. The email from Jobs was unprofessional at best. I think if they handled it better this really would be a nonissue for most people.

Your posts are so lame and ridiculous..... Is your email *@apple.com?

I wouldn't be surprised if  had sent out shills like this to try and deflect the issue. I mean what sane person would tell you the phone is great as long as you don't hold it like a cell phone?

I am waiting until middle of next week to see if  will make this right. Then I will returned it - the $30 I spend to restock with hopes of a fixed version in a few months is better than $30 for a bumper I have no confirmation will solve the problem (can't believe  after the last few days), will leave the phone easy to put in pockets, or even allow it to be on and fit in the dock.

Major disappointment in  right now. Maybe if we return enough they will start really testing future models and put a little bit more function over form.

I'm tired of people telling us to return the phone. That doesn't solve anything. I want the phone that I bought to work as advertised. So for those who are saying return the phone, you either don't have the phone or you have it and you haven't (but you will) experience the dropped calls, internet drop outs.
I just had a friend try the "death grip" on his phone and he swore it worked and nothing was wrong, then he tells me now he's having issues too. Everyone has a well duplicated flawed device. You're not from a special batch or anything, its flawed plain and simple.

Keep complaining. If they want to keep their customers happy, they will fix it. Or do they care anymore?

How can you say everyone is having the problem when plenty of people on this very thread, even the same page as your comment are not having any problems at all?

A..a...aaaaaple is cheating on me? Lying to me? OH GOD, IM SO CRUSHED :(.

Yes, my friend. It's cheating on all of us. :(
As in every relationship, the trust slowly fades when you're not treated right. And it's not until you're over that relationship emotionally, that you see how badly you've been treated.

what's funny is, i can bet that majority of you don't even hold your phone like that.

Really? Are you right handed? How do you hold the phone when interacting with apps?

It is the natural position to hold the phone. Imagine if you had to do a presentation in front of a crowd and you were right handed...

It wasn't a wi-fi problem. The 3g worked PERFECTLY.

1) they charge you a restock fee,
2) still lingering hope that  will make this right. Hard to give up hope on old heros no matter how they seem to be screwing you over.

They won't charge a restocking fee if the device doesn't work for you.
