The U.K. is a crazy so many people have there phones stolen from where I live
I’ve only ever had my phone stolen once. It was in the tube in London. It was my iPhone 4 in 2012. I had it in my pocket. My pocket was picked. I was reading on my kindle and was distracted. I learnt a few lessons that day. Have a passcode on your phone. Have find my iPhone switched on. Secure your phone. Don’t have it in a pocket where someone can easily pick it. Especially on a crowded tube. Have insurance.

so for you there's a choice: be an easy target for pickpockets or insurers.

just count the money you have saved in 9 years without insurance or applecare..

Pay for AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss coverage when I get free coverage with my credit card? 🤣

As long as I pay my monthly cell service bill with my credit card, I'll get up to $600 in theft and damage protection with a $25 deductible.

Must be wrong, can’t be £11.99 per month or £239 per year.
£11.99x12= £143.88
£239/12= £19.92

no company penalises you for paying upfront.
Would suspect its
£11.99 p/m or £239 over 24 months at £9.96 per month which makes far more sense.

Who in their right mind would spend that much on this? Standard home contents insurance would cover this.
Apple's hoping people don't read their home owners / renters insurance policy or credit card coverage, and then play on buyers fears of having to shell out another $1,000 for a new iPhone

I dare say it’s very dependent upon where you are as well. I don’t hear of much in the way of stolen phones around here, very rarely. Although crime is certainly on the rise, so that could very well change.

I’ve certainly never experienced it myself, iPhone or otherwise. Mind you, you’d be a brave numptie to try mugging me - not that I enjoy violence, but when one must employ it, it’s handy to be, well, handy 😆

Chances are that Apple's insurance will provide you with a hassle-free way of ensuring you stolen device is replaced. Your insurance company will probably put you through hell trying to make a claim.
I'm obviously not as unlucky as you.... I've never had the misfortune of losing an iPhone twice, and claimed for a replacement once through AppleCare and once through home insurance, to be able to make the comparison you have.

Many policies don’t by default. It really depends on the level of cover you take. Though I always recommend that kind of coverage when asked for advice.

This is great! About time Apple Care+ was on equal-terms between the USA and Australia.

Having said that, where is the proof of this? I can't seem to find anywhere on the Apple website that Apple Care provides a loss-and-theft claim... Is it only available at the time of purchase?

Is it applied retroactively to current Apple Care+ plans?

Can you upgrade your existing Apple Care+ plan to include loss-and-theft insurance?

A fair few in the UK include under £2000 in and out of the house without specifying. When I asked for my iPhone they told me its inclusive without having to do anything.

its interesting to see peoples views on these.

You’re paying £239 for the insurance and then £109 when you claim.

Maybe if you’ve a pro max with 1TB of storage that’s a good deal, but if it’s a base model pro that originally cost £949 but at the point of loss is probably worth a lot less I’m not convinced.

Let me see. You have your 900 phone stolen or lost after two months, it would cost you 900 to replace it versus 109 + the monthly fee for two months. Insurance is expensive until you need it.

Yep that’s correct, if you select finance on your new phone those numbers match the AppleCare costs per month (on a 24 month term)

You don't need to go through all that to know insurance companies are generally horrible, and they are eager to utilise every trick in the book to avoid paying out a claim.

AppleCare+ on the other hand is generally a painless experience. It's worth the cost.

Also seems expensive. You can get a Nationwide Flex Plus account with similar terms but covering multiple phones and all kinds of other thing like car breakdown and travel insurance for £13 a month.

Other banks do similar things. I realise not everyone can get that account but the value proposition of this seems poor.

Virgin Money do a similar account, same benefits, but with the added bonus of including laptops, cameras, tablets and so on, for you and all of your family, instead of just mobile phones.

I’m not arguing that may [most] do, but I’ve encountered a few in my time that want you to pay an added premium for such cover. Though it’s generally very good value overall.

Two things:
- Most people have a high deductible, which means in case of theft it will be more expensive.
- Generally, you don't want to make a home insurance claim for a stolen phone, because your insurance rate will go up.
There's also convenience: AppleCare+ is global which means no hassle getting it replaced. And AppleCare+ covers also damage, not only theft and loss. The added premium on the theft and loss part is minimal.

Chances are that loss and theft would be covered by home insurance policy (and possibly even accidental damage).
That was my attitude until my insurance guy pointed out that filing a claim for a phone counted the same as putting a claim for your roof. Insurance companies will only allow you X claims before they drop you. I’d never file anything under $2500 or $5000.

Having had a few iPhones lost / stolen over the years I think insurance is worth paying. I made a claim through our home insurance (Hiscox) and our home insurance went from £1,400 a year to over £1,728 and affected the policy for five years after the claim so wasn’t worth claiming on home insurance at all. In fact it probably cost me more in increase premiums than a new iPhone would. However we now have insurance through NatWest Black and having lost two phones in the past few years they have always been excellent and quick to settle the claim by sending out a new iPhone. The added advantage is that these claims don’t effect the house insurance. It covers a multitude of things like breakdown cover etc etc. I think the only reason for buying Apple’s version is if there was a massive delay in third party insurers sending a replacement phone out; however in my experience as above this has always been quick so I’ll stick with NatWest.

Ok so this doesn't add up.
How is it £11.99 per month or £239 per year? £11.99 x12 months is £143.88.
Slightly confused 🤔

I was just thinking about Applecare+ as well after getting a new Mac..

Perfect timing as always. :D

Well, Apple Care would have still cost £189 which is mandatory for me, so a small uplift to give me peace of mind for theft and damage for 2 years is worth it.

I live in the UK where people won't think twice about stabbing me in the neck if I struggle to stop a gang or person stealing my phone. They can take the damn thing and I get a replacement at the end of the day.
