Yes, you are missing something. You have 60 days to add AC+ on device.

I would advise calling AppleCare Support or stopping into your local Apple store and speaking with someone to clear your confusion.
Awesome thank you.

From what I can see it looks like one can only sign up for this if they go into the Apple store and have their device inspected and approved. The whole point of AppleCare is to have accidental damage covered, so not having that for the first year seems to defeat the purpose for me. But yes, it looks like it could save money if you don’t have it for that first year.
I believe we have a mutual understanding. However, I would just like to note Applecare+ is more than accidental damage protection. What happens in year two or three when a radio fails or a speaker blows? You have to pay "other damage" to fix. For those people, like myself, adding AC+ a year later becomes a better value than $199 upfront or $240 over 24 months, $360 over 36, etc.

I’ve never bothered with it personally as I keep my iPhone in a good case. I think AppleCare is a rather expensive insurance policy to be honest and most people don’t realise their home contents insurance often already covers their devices. Apple have far too much of my money without that on top.

I think its only worth it if you're a particularly clumsy/careless person. I've never paid for insurance/extended warranties on anything when given a choice. The money I've saved in doing so would pay for any defects or accidents anyway.

Particularly clumsy would describe me to a Tee. My husband calls me the master of disaster as I drop things and fall down all the time. I just a few minutes ago reached into a cabinet and dropped a bowl on my head. (I am super short) thankfully said bowl was plastic. Yesterday I was cleaning the bathroom, squatted down, and couldn't get back up so I ended up falling backward. So keeping Applecare Plus sounds like I should keep it.

Investing in large quantities of bubble wrap for padding purposes might be practical as well. ;)

For me, it's worth having AC+ for peace of mind. I never drop my iPhone's, but a month after getting my 12, I dropped it on concrete and completely shattered the back of the device. A couple days later I had a new 12 delivered to my house. All thanks to AC+.

For the devices that come everywhere with me (i.e. iPhone and Apple Watch) AC+ is worth getting. Usually my iPad and MBP stay at home, so I generally don't get AC+ for those products.

Yep, that's the primary reason why I buy AppleCare+. Peace of mind and a better experience at the Apple Stores. I get AppleCare+ on all but my base AirPods.

You got a new iPhone ? That seem pretty good if you in fact did tell them it was broken because you dropped it…

it makes me think I should get AC+ lol

did you contact Apple on their website?

As above really, for my phone I always get Apple Care. Just for the security off knowing if the worst ever happened I’d be covered. And paid monthly it’s really not a noticeable outgoing.

Was that one hell of a drop of was the phone not in a case? I’ve dropped my iPhone 12 a couple of dozen times since I’ve owned it but my case has absorbed all the drops. If I was unfortunate enough to smash the device, it’s covered under my home contents which is much cheaper than AC.

Incidentally, how much of a rebate do you get on AC if you don’t claim during the period does anybody know?

I have not purchased AppleCare for any of my devices. Without AppleCare repairs are costly. It is like an insurance. You may never need it.

It’s prorated based on time and usage. If you went a year without filing a claim and wanted a refund, you would get 50% back. If you went a year and a half without filing a claim, you’d get 25% back, etc.

That’s my exact way of thinking as well. I bought Apple Care+ once, with my iPhone X. Zero assistance when it got stolen. Never going to buy it again (apparently theft and loss is covered in the US only. Ridiculous.).

AppleCare+ wasn't theft and loss until very recently and even that is really expensive (an extra cost on top of normal AppleCare+).

I got a new iPhone 12 in March and signed up for AppleCare. I would have preferred to pay the entire year outright but I cannot. I am paying $8 a month. Is it worth keeping? Do you have it? Should I keep it.

If you’re planning on keeping the phone for more then 2 years yes I would prefer monthly over all at once since you can keep on paying for it until the end of time basically.

I have always gone for Apple care on my stuff but so far I’ve never used it, when I had a problem with an iMac a few years ago they mentioned Apple care but it had ran out on that one about year previous, they said I was a good customer and knew I took Apple care on everything and said they’d fix it anyway, so it worked even after it was over, quite good really.

So now that i have applecare+, and there has been a small crack on the back of my iPhone 12 Pro.

So before i send this in to AppleCare, pay the $ to have a new/refurb sent back to me,

am i now then able to maybe enjoy using the phone in the shower and getting wet before sending it iN ?

Any issues with that ?

I would not do that. Water damage is not covered and they may reject your claim. I'm not saying they will reject it, but it is a very real possibility.

As far as I am aware, irrespective of whether you have AppleCare, Apple products are not designed to be waterproof.

Any other damage under AC+ is a $99 deductible so it would be covered from what I remember.

This. Accidental damage including water damage is included in AC+ (2 instances per year) as long as you pay the deductible.
