People keep seeing this as an iPad. It won't *just* be an iPad. It will run MacOS, or have the option of running both MacOS + iOS in specific configurations.

That is the *only* way a folding device of the size makes any sense.

The Huawei device is showing what's almost possible, but it needs more refinement (not to mention better internals, and a non-crap OS).

First off i thought at first from the image they meant the iPhone fold...thank god cause i plan on saving for months on end next year for that. Get me a foldable iPhone first then i can worry about a foldable ipad years down the road.

Heres a crazy idea....we DONT need a foldable ipad. I dont see the point in that. Unless its a ipad mini folded then opens into an 13 inch iPad pro...i dont get why you would want a ipad that just folds.

What they should do (and seems like what they are doing) is blend the Ipads with the Macbooks and make an OLED touch screen Mac Book which is the current rumor. That makes more sense.

Also...a Ipad Pro Mini would be lovely, just saying. OLED 120HZ screen with FaceID? SOLD.

Hell, give me a touch screen Imac with an OLED Screen and FaceID! Think the Microsoft Surface Studio but by apple and id buy that in a heart beat.

I dont see any practical reason for a foldable ipad (unless its a mini into a pro bookstyle device) at all. I do see practical reasons for a Iphone Fold, A touch screen macbook and Imac (you could revise the imac g4 design in a modern version of it) all these other wonderful dream devices apple could put out soon that have form and function...instead of this foldable ipad device.

I don't really get the use case for this. At least with a foldable phone you are getting something pocketable that opens to have a screen the size of a small tablet, but what does folding up your iPad accomplish? Just so you can carry a smaller bag?
It's not small. An 18" tablet corresponds to the size of a 13" iPad when folded. In other words, it's a 13" iPad that you can fold out to double its size. I don't know what Apple has in mind, but it would be useful for reading double-sided PDFs, music scores, graphic novels and the like.

They have officially lost the plot with their pricing strategy. Somehow they got the idea that $3499 Vision Pros and $3899 iPad Folds are appealing to anyone outside the 1%. And as the successor-free $10,000 Apple Watch Edition proved, the 1% are not enough to sustain a $3 trillion business.

With all of the development issues facing the larger screens, I salute all of the folding iPhone first gen at-MSRP buyers.

Apple's large-screened foldable iPad could be delayed due to development issues, reports Bloomberg. Apple wanted to launch the device in 2028, but problems with weight and display technology may cause it to be pushed back until 2029.

Multiple rumors have suggested that Apple is working on a large foldable device, though information has diverged on whether it will be positioned as an iPad or a Mac. The product is expected to have an 18-inch display created by Samsung, with Apple focusing on minimizing the display crease.

A large foldable OLED display is expensive, and the foldable device could be up to three times as expensive as the 13-inch iPad Pro. Apple charges $1,299 for the 13-inch iPad Pro, so if prices doesn't come down for components over the next few years, the foldable iPad could cost as much as $3,900.

When the iPad is closed, it looks like a Mac, with an aluminum shell and no exterior display. When open, it is similar in size to the 13-inch MacBook Air, but there is no physical keyboard. Because of the large screen size and the aluminum chassis, prototypes weigh around 3.5 pounds, making it significantly heavier than the current iPad Pro models.

According to Bloomberg, the foldable iPad is apparently similar in design to the Huawei MateBook Fold, which is an 18-inch foldable tablet priced at $3,400.

Huawei's MateBook Fold

Apple's first foldable device, an iPhone, could come out as soon as next year. Multiple rumors have suggested that Apple wants to introduce it as part of the iPhone 18 lineup, though some recent information indicates that it too might be delayed.

Shoot. Apples iPad M8 has been delayed.

Such a ridiculous take! Anyone paying $4,000 for a foldable iPad needs a mental evaluation.
I completely agree with you, good sir. Any discriminating individual who has the means to afford the base model (and I do mean "base") can afford to wait for the $10,000 gold-plated Edition iFoldpad (my presumed appellation that Apple will assign to this device), which will be a better expression of one's wealth and prestige.

3900 for an iPad 🤣🤣 no thanks. Trouble is I can actually see Apple charging that much for it. And it is just a gimmick as not useful with a touchscreen keyboard only. On a phone yes, on an 18” tablet no.

Does anyone feel like Apple is losing the way? While they are still pumping out some great products like MBP's, airpods, .. the stagnation around iOS and the phone lineup is very real. iOS today is an inconsistent mess of ideas. Vision Pro felt/feels DOA. While Samsung is on its 7th gen of foldable Apple is just delaying.. Not to mention the big elephant in the room, AI integration. Siri's completely broken, Apple Intelligence not delivering and not coming any time soon.
