The 6s does all I need. I will keep repeating this mantra until it is either damaged, stop working, obsolete or stolen. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat will work just the same on a 6s as it does on a iPhone 7 or 8.

People not going to upgrade because the design is the same? Really?

Apple continue to innovate on the internals. The upgrade from the 6 to 6S was HUGE by itself as I am sure this years when compared to last.

The processor alone is enough reason for me to upgrade every year. The additional features usually introduced is added benefit.

I believe you are the target audience for Apple.

I want a headphone jack on my phone. Period. Wireless isn't always better and for crying out loud my SE is thin enough - I want it to last 2 days without charging, not to fit in my wallet's credit card slot.
Agreed. Thin is good, but it can be taken too far, and we're seeing that now. Ugly camera bumps, modest battery life, and now the removal of a port that most of us use quite frequently. It's too much. Thinness is nice, but it should not trump all other considerations.

Declining iphone sales will continue until the 10th anniversary iphone in 2017. Then they'll explode again. So buying apple stock now into early next year will probably be a great investment.

You'll want to be very, very careful with this unsolicited stock buying rationale.

So, three years between major updates is really poor. I switched to a Samsung S7 Edge from a 5S earlier in the year, simply because Apple weren't improving quickly enough. Wanted a better camera. Got it. Wanted much better battery life. Got it. Wanted the ability to customise more. Got it. Wanted more storage, inserted a 128GB SD card. Got it. Wanted waterproofing. Got it. Get regular updates, more frequent than from Apple in fact.

This is from someone who still owns the original iPhone.

Looks like I made the right decision.

I think that much like Samsung, Apple should have something "exciting" in the works coming up in the next year or so (foldable screens etc). Perhaps Apple is going to use the same charging plug to power the headphones? Who knows? I haven't had an iPhone in 5 yrs or more now, but I think now the tech is getting close to being able to radically change the hardware on the phones. It will be interesting to see what they come up with.

I don't understand the trade-off of getting rid of the headphone jack just for stereo speakers and a slimmer design. If that's the only reason then there's absolutely no reason to "upgrade" to the new iphone from a 6/6s. Like mentioned in previous articles, the jack is still too widely used to get rid of it.

Why is that sometimes Apple is late to the party on some features that seem really great (OLED displays), and then sometimes they're the first to get rid of features that people still use? If you're going to take away a feature, at least introduce a new feature BEFORE that would be a good alternative and give your customers confidence about the direction you're going.

I'm an every other year iphone upgrader (3G, 4, 5, 6), but I might not be updating this year if these rumors prove true. It also makes me second guess the Apple ecosystem because their innovation seems to be plateauing.

I must say I hope for a major update. I tend to hold onto my phones until they wear out (still using a 4S). It'll annoy me if I buy an iPhone only to have it outclassed markedly the following year by something major that could have been introduced earlier...
I want the 2030 iPhone, and I want it today!

Do you think they will change the naming convention to iPhone, iPhone Pro or something like that and abandon the 6, 6S, 7, 7S etc?

Very interesting question. Part of me would like to say no, but another part says you are spot on, and an iPhone pro (plus or a third scu), just cause the name alone will result in a price increase of $50-$100 as happened on iPad Air 3.

The only reason I'll be going to the 7 is because of the $400 hardware rebate from my service provider.

Well i'm definitely not buying THAT. Even if it came in black people would say "oh, you got the new iPhone, you're so stupid"

That being said I give Apple props for waiting until the next phone is ready, and not pushing out a half baked new design for the sake of upgrades. But I don't give them props for making a basic bitch ugly iPhone 6 and selling it for three years. My crystal ball says its going to be another tough year for the stock price.
