I wonder if paradoxically people hold on to their iPads longer because of the limited software. Whereas, if the software was taking advantage of the hardware year to year, there wold be more emphasis on upgrading sooner and Apple would be making even more money off iPad sales. As it sits, anyone with a 2018/2020/2021 iPad Pro has no real reason to upgrade unless iPadOS has some bigger changes.
While I agree I do some photo panoramas and other editing that chokes up my 6GB 2018 iPP. I'm waiting for an 11" mini-LED or OLED model but I will appreciate the speed/RAM upgrade of the M-class models even with the current software. The iPad Pros really aren't for everyone! If the Air were to get ProMotion and HDR (which I suspect will happen soon if not tomorrow) the Pros will become even more niche as the only buyers will be people who want to run specifics apps and workflows.

That's honestly the case with Apple's current "pro" desktops and laptops and I'm OK with that. I think it makes more sense.

I traded in my 2018 iPP (12.9, 256gb, WIFI) (+ an old laptop + an Oculus Quest 2) and have ordered an M1 iPP (12.9, 2TB, Cellular) from CEX as its only £1100 for a Grade A one.
I don't mind being on 5 year update cycles for iPads as the updated cameras don't bother me (I use my iPhone 13 Pro Max) and the MagSafe isn't needed as I use the Magic Keyboard which basically does the same thing.

The refresh this device needs is on the software side exclusively, except for the need to move the forward-facing camera to one of the landscape sides.
Yeah, they need to fix this! When i do Facetime with my family, it seems (to them) that im talking to the wall at the left of my ipad instead looking at them!! Haha EDIT: Exactly like my profile pic LOL

What's the expected release date for the 2022 Pro's? I heard March and now hear May?

Just got the 11” iPad Pro. Set it up using my 12.9 but the storage is different? The 12.9 uses less than the 11”. Both are 256Gb. Any idea why the same films and TV are different?

Possibly
(a) one is grabbing the 4K versions, one is grabbing the 1080p versions

(b) one is grabbing h.265 versions the other is grabbing h.266 versions. (h.266 aka VVC was finalized two years ago. It is plausible, though no-one knows either way, that there is an h.266 decoder on the M1 or A15 chips, and that Apple is sending appropriate content to capable devices, either to save bandwidth/space, or to test a few random people for bugs in the HW.
They rolled out h.265 support somewhat like that, having first a decoder then an encoder in chips while not telling anyone, until they could make a big splash about the changeover from h.264 to h.265 with, already, a large pool of devices having appropriate hardware.

The main reason that people keep their iPads is that the devices are overpowered when new and are robust devices. They last a long time and people continue to get what they need out of them. Most iPad customers don’t need them to do the “pro” level tasks that a lot of us here keep wishing they could.

By that logic, people would be upgrading their Macs more frequently than iPhones.

I'd like to see a new pencil and better feedback from the glass, as if drawing on paper. A matte screen could help. The closer Apple could get to making an iPad a genuine tool for art making, the better.

if they update the iPad Pro, it must be new SoC. So I guess we need to wait until Mac mini and MBA refresh before.

nothing here to get me excited though. The real potential progress is in the software

Well, they can put mini-LED with HDR in the 11in. They can always improve the front cams, and put them in the correct location.

But generally, yeah, at this point they need to worry about the software.

But which location is the correct location? I admit I use my iPP almost entirely in landscape so the current “top” location is less than ideal, but if they were to move it to the middle of the long side (top in landscape) it would be really bad for portrait users. Perhaps if they put it in the corner it would be good enough for landscape without being terrible for portrait?

any rumor about larger iPad Pro?

I really really want to dismiss my Cintiq Pro 16"

I guess 15" would be huge for a tablet…

iPad Pro and iPad Air have both shifted to a rough 18 month cycle, so it will likely be a bit later. June at WWDC is not entirely out of the question but my guess would more likely be August/September.

I use the iPad Pro almost exclusively as a drawing tablet. I do not want to go back to Wacom.
Procreate is just so intuitive and with IOS touch works flawlessly.

So please can we have a bigger iPad - the 12,9” is a bit too small.

I have been looking at the Wacom Cintiq 16 Pro, but it would mean having to plug in multiple cables and wires into the mac and then running photoshop with all its menus on a relatively small screen.

So what I’m asking for is:

16.2″Liquid Retina XDR screen (taken from 16" MacBook Pro)
3456x2234
7.7 million pixels
254 ppi

Etched glass option as on the Cintiq Pro's for a better drawing experience.

Is there a benefit of titanium over aluminum?
From Wikipedia “Titanium is 60% denser than aluminium, but more than twice as strong as the most commonly used 6061-T6 aluminium alloy.”

Apple could get a different balance between bulk, strength, and weight in the case. The downside is higher cost of materials and manufacturing.

Wonder if they will launch in midnight colour ? I’d definitely get a midnight iPad Pro

Maybe...?

M2 iPad Pro tablets:
  • 14" 120Hz ProMotion Mini LED displays (12" & 14")
  • 8-core CPU (4P/4E)
  • 10-core GPU
  • 16-core Neural Engine
  • Media Engine
Multi-tiered RAM / SSDs:
  • 8GB RAM with 128GB or 256GB SSD
  • 16GB RAM with 512GB or 1TB SSD
  • 24GB RAM with 2TB or 4TB SSD
Hate to think of the top-end pricing...!
