All I care about is that I spent my money on an Apple product, it used to work nearly flawlessly, and is suddenly plagued with issues because of changes Apple made.

Well then, email Tim Cook and demand your money back.

Does anyone really think this is an 'either/or' situation, as in Apple has chosen to implement 3D instead of fixing map errors?

Everyone does. haven't you figured that out yet. They are also the same ones fixing all the bugs in iOS 6, Mountain Lion, designing the 'real' Apple TV, the new iMacs etc.

There are no teams at Apple. It's the same 20 or so folks doing everything at once. That's why it all sucks. Any claims otherwise are just Apple's PR spin.

:p

What he's trying to say is that Google Maps wasn't perfect from day one which was 8 years ago. So why the heck are folks using it as a touchstone for something that has been out for 3 weeks.

Apple will likely take much less than 8 years to get to the same level it but will be more than a couple of months. If it's that huge of an issue then use something else. IF you are claiming you bought an iphone 5 just for Maps then return it, there's still time.
Then why release it in the first place? Why not stick with Google Maps until Apple Maps is up to scratch? Sorry, that's just very poor.

Satellite data for much of UK still very poor

Glad to hear that the Statue of Liberty restored but nothing done about dreadful satellite data for much of the UK, one of the major markets for iDevices. I think I might have checked the quality of the satellite data before shelling out for it. Apparently I still live in a green blur with few roads, no buildings or other features.

I know the fanboyz will trot out the usual justifications and excuses but they don't stack up. Apple should have soldiered on with Google for the last year of their contract until this product was much more usable. I have relegated maps to my back page on my iPad and brought the Google maps link to the front. Luckily my iPhones are too old to run iOS6, so I still have Google on the maps app. I wonder what will happen when the Google contract runs out next year.

The iPod (and later the iPhone) were also Apple's first try at a music player (smartphone) and it was pretty good from day one, even when compared with the competition.
But Apple Maps?

Because software is always being updated, its never truly going to be ready until it is released and users submit feedback reports on problems. Just like when Google released its own maps version. Any software/data is always going to have undiscovered bugs in it, until the general public actually use the software.

Nail on head.

I used maps away from home last week for the first time. Tried to find a bady signposted school in Nottingham and a health centre in Mansfield. I instinctively reached for satellite view and found clouds and green fuzz respectively. Not fit for purpose.:( My guess is that rather that this 'blowing over' like so many on here would like to believe, dissatisfaction will only grow over the coming months as increasing numbers of people realise that their phone has effectively lost functionality. Now I could turn to google maps, but my sister and my dad wouldn't know to do that. Neither will many many others. They will ask for directions and complain that their iphone isn't as good as it used to me.

Try getting them excited about looking at the Statue of Liberty!;)

We're not talking about bugs or minor problems, we're talking about whole countries having no coverage where the coverage was fine with Google Maps. Apple Maps isn't 'not quite ready', it's WAY off being ready..and people are not happy..unless they live in New York of course, then they can look at the Statue of Liberty in lovely 3D.

I have a hard time believing entire countries have no maps whatsoever. Sure, wrong addresses, satellite maps showing wrong or missing pictures, but not entire countries showing no coverage.

As someone that has used Google Maps for years, including online, long before I ever had it on a phone, I can tell you for a fact that Google Maps had these same issues in the past. I can remember trying to look at places and seeing nothing but cloud cover or just an extremely far out distance where nothing could be made out. Over the years, Google slowly added new images and made it better. I assure you that Apple is doing the same thing, but you must be patient. For the time being use the google maps site or another application and if you really want to use Apple Maps, then report the issue in the map and hope it gets updated soon.

This is a common complaint that is incorrect. People say there is no map, when in reality there is a perfectly usable classic style map, but they have a very poor satellite picture.

Who gives a crap if 3D maps makes the Statue of Liberty look nicer. This is the thing that pisses me off about apple. They're so worried about making things look pretty and so are it's users. Fix the basic function of the maps app which is to get you from point A to point B accurately and then polish the turd if you want. To hell with 3D flyover which provides ZERO usefulness. 3D flyover is a concept car, something to show your friends at a party, it's not a core function that's necessary.

This attitude is crazy!! Patient?! I'm patient with my friends, my family, my pet and (to a limited degree) my colleagues. I am not patient with the companies who make vast amounts of money from me! If the garage messed up your car would you be patient? If you TV stopped working properly would you be patient? If your favourite restaurant started serving badly prepared food would you be patient? If you think Apple is different then you're, frankly, bonkers.

Since this iOS6 maps issue has become so popular I am looking at Google maps with a different view, and noticed that the ooh so perfect Google is much less than perfect.

It actually contains more flaws then most people think. Just yesterday I was looking for information on a parking garage and tried to find it in Google maps, it pointed me to a city 100 km away from where it should be ... very useful.

When I tried to use it as a reference to report missing POIs in Apple Maps, I found missing POIs in the dozens within a couple of downtown city blocks. How many years do they have in advance again?

Nobody forces you to give Apple your money. There are alternatives out there in every single market that Apple is in. If I was completely unhappy with a restaurant, I would not return, but when I sent my food back I wouldn't expect a 10 second turn around from when they took the food back to when the fixed meal was returned to me. If the Maps application is so crucially important to you and you can't stand how it has changed, use a different app or get a different phone, tablet or music player. That seems like a pretty simple solution. If I went to a restaurant and they kept serving me bad food, I wouldn't keep returning daily and not liking my food and whining to the manager. I believe your phone still works, so comparing it to a broken TV is quite different. If you don't like it, move on, there are many alternatives.

Yep, your impatient.

Does your iPhone stop working just because one app is still under development?

Exactly. Apple have their priorities out of whack.

They could work on fixing maps so that they can tell the difference between water and land.
They could work on having roads and buildings where they're supposed to be.
They could work on fixing the tens of thousands of misspellings, or getting the correct language for each country.
They could work on fixing street addresses and point of interests.

You know, basic stuff where Apple Maps is really 10 years behind and that need to be fixed to make the maps usable.

But no, they're fixing cosmetic details on 3D images that are only available in limited locations and have almost no purpose...

Maybe his business relies on people being able to find its location?

Apple has teams of developers working in parallel on feature sets, and rolls out features that are ready for use, in staged releases.

Become a developer. You'll learn something.

Are you on apples payroll?:)

My one year old 4S has lost functionality after the update. If I knew then what I know now...
Perhaps I've had bought another phone.

Which functionality?

Radar would love to hear from you.

#1 priority should be given to fixing the data - especially the updates users submit. Those people are committed users, and they're taking the time to try to help. If you don't listen to them, that's like a giant F-U to them.

Over a week ago, I submitted a town that's listed 20 miles west of its proper location, and... no update yet. It should take someone 10 seconds to fix it.

Not sure why they can't divide the world into geographic segments, assign a few people to each segment, and bang this out... brute force - that's what it takes.
Not everyone agrees. Some of the posts regarding maps have expressed outrage at the melted bridges, posting pictures of the offending views. Apple is hearing those complaints, and they are drowning yours out.

The Brooklyn bridge looks really good now. I'm still waiting on San Antonio getting some love. We don't even have the 3D vector buildings yet. Just a flat map with some older images. However, even though some business locations are wrong/out of date, the turn by turn nav in San Antonio works great.

I encourage it. People that haven't owned Android phones and have been loyal to iOS should go try a different phone if they are unhappy. I did the same thing after the 4s came out and was unimpressed with it, however, I decided I liked iOS much more than Android and came back. The empty threat of "next time I won't buy" or "I am done with iPhones" holds no value unless you do it.

Yes, except the same day I submitted information what said the same town is 20 miles EAST, just to mess with ya. ;)

Seriously, every submission has to be checked for accuracy against a trusted information source, which takes time. Apple can't just take the submitter's word for it. All your submission does is get your location on a queue to be checked out; and that's the way it should be.

You're right! But I fear the weak points of Android also.
Between Scylla and Charybdis...:)

And I'm stuck with Apple somewhat. Since the release of the first iPod touch I bought a lot of Apps...

Arlington

I also noticed that as well on Wednesday down here in Arlington TX. Maps in my 4S was updated on Wednesday while iPad updated on Friday. However, iPad 2 still doesnt have 3D. The businesses' infos are started to show up though.

Good to know &...

1) what happened to the 360 slow turn in (i)Maps, which was evident in beta versions of iOS 6? In the 3D mode, one would enter an address or location, and upon locating the place, the map would turn 360. Liked it, miss it.

2) what's the likelihood that Apple will eventually release a desktop version of its map app program?
