Paul McCartney? Long past his sell-by date even in ‘76. May as well cough up for a duet with Bono.
Proof if ever Tim Cook is tone deaf and absolutely obsessed with celebrity. He probably has a sideboard (or even a room) with photos of him with that same rictus veneered grin next to whoever (Dalai Lama excepted for obvious reasons), everyone arranged systematically by genre, politicians here, movie actors there, musicians next to them etc. in order of “importance”/fame.
Instead, this 50th anniversary should have been meaningful, an introspective reflection of just how far the company has come, showcasing the founders (both the two living and one deceased), and a vision of what the company hopes the next 50 years may bring.
Unlike others, I don’t agree it should have been another Marketing excuse to announce some new company product but how about a significant charitable or educational program (large-scale donation of Neo’s to underfunded or deprived school districts for example) to give back to society, even if just locally or regionally around their mothership and global satellites LA, NYC, London, Paris, Cork, etc. The company is as rich as Croesus, surely that’s better PR than another geriatric CEO/rock star photo opp.
Something, anything to show this behemoth of a tech company hadn’t disappeared up its own self-congratulatory fame hole.
What an utterly wasted opportunity.
