No June release. ALL iPhones are released with a new version of iOS that was announced three months prior....[\QUOTE]

..so far.

But like the stock market, past performance is not necessarily a guide to future performance.

What if there is no iOS 8 for release this year.. ?

;) not that I know any inside info or anything.
In this case there will be no changes. Branding is everything for the iPhone and releasing a new iPhone that doesn't have new software would be a serious hit to the brand. Just making it faster isn't enough in the smartphone wars. No iPhones until iOS 8 is ready. Period.

It seems rather early to begin manufacturing these chips. This combined with Walmart lowering prices may point to a Spring release of an iPhone 6.

Absolutely not. They're in the "risk" production stage. They won't be manufacturing final chips intended for consumer devices until the summer.

Normally I'd be really excited to hear this. But then I realize that the only games I play on my iPhone are the ones that require you to wait 45 minutes to get more energy.

True story. On year 5 of iMobsters and I'm prolly about 33% through.

Yes, because a company logo effects how well they build a product. Some people have too much time on their hands worrying about such trival matters.

True, but anybody could have created a better logo than that. I don't understand how somebody calls that a finished logo for something as big as a company.

The question? And what nonsense?

Despite your claimed qualifications, you know nothing of what you speak. Nothing at all.

----------

Also sadly apparent is that you know little of that on which you pontificate.

You also know nothing of what you speak or you would be saying something to the effect of "when it works, it's nice". It's the when it doesn't work part that the problem. Its a POS.

I have the experience with it to know what its failures are.

If I were to take your statement at face value, the only remaining conclusion would be that the team is dumber than dirt.

iOS is at version 7.x and performs like a bad Beta in many respects.

Jony Ive focuses on the shallow, superficial, meaningless and irrelevant...Crayola colors and transparency.

If things have gone extraordinarily well they might actually be producing units usable for something more than testing even before being able to ramp up production.

Either way, the prospect of good yields is encouraging.

Oh really? I have yet to hear you explain how I know "nothing of what I speak".

I think kds1 is unemployed and is using the forum to post his/her resume instead of giving solid reasons for not wanting multi-user support. I'm unclear how kds1 feels about Windows, though.

User profiles work under OSX/Windows and there is enough evidence that (over time) desktops are being replaced by tablets, so why not? The problem is, tablet makers are stingy when it comes to memory and storage. Those need to increase in order to handle multiple users.

"Get separate iPads for kids, or other family members"? Right. Let me refinance my house and see if I can squeeze enough equity out to furnish iPads to my entire family. :D

Hardly posting my resume. I left IT to pursue a meaningful career in the non-profit world. One of the keys to the iPad is it's simplicity. It's not trying to be a substitute for a desktop and I don't think it was ever meant it to be.

P.S. Your personal finances are your business.

TSMC doesn't produce shiny toys for consumers.
TSMC creates very unsexy wafers of chips for companies needing the technology.

Nobody here is a TSMC customer. TSMC doesn't care one bit what we think of their logo. I worked for a TSMC customer once, and everyone dealing with them thought that their logo was very fitting and appropriate for the company, and didn't have any complaints about it.

The iPad works best as and is meant to be a personal device. One device, one user. Get separate iPads for kids, or other family members, and use your own AppleID's. If that's not working for you, buy a Surface.

That's the typical thoughtless, ridiculous approach of someone who doesn't live in the real world. Here's an example of a thoughtful attitude: If you have a Mac with full disk encryption, _anyone_ can turn it on and use it to browse the internet, with no possibility of changing anything or reading anything on the encrypted drive. Thanks for that, Apple.

Apparently you are a hermit who never gets any visitors. Because if you got visitors, you would know that they like to use an iPad at your home, and it would be great to be able to hand over your iPad without them having access to everything that is yours.

I'll let someone use the iPad in my home, it's not a problem. But you do have other choices, if this is a problem for you.

Quantum Dot display

Why haven't I heard anything about apple using a Quantum Dot display technology like the kindle fire hdx 7? I haven't seen it rumoured here...but many other sites are suggesting it.

Here's to a someday Samsung-free iPhone.

Why does it matter? Samsung make great processors. Good job to them. I don't think they pay attention to design in their aesthetic look of their hardware but that doesn't make their components poor. Android's inconsistency is a joined fault with google.

I'm still quite amazed that people complain about TSMC's logo.

It is THE industry leader (and by a big margin. It's bigger than the No2-6 combined in term of revenue) for god sake. If you are in the foundry business, you'd have TSMC's every move by heart. Yes, they are that big of a deal in that industry.

When you are that big in a business, you could have a two-years-old kid draw whatever to be your logo and your competitor would still have the upmost respect for you when hearing your name.

intel has always had manufacturing issues with new processes and new designs. they have always limited manufacturing new CPU's to one foundry, worked out the bugs and then set up the process on their other foundries

and between qualcomm and apple, TSMC will probably do whatever it takes to make them happy

Wait.. When did Intel start going to foundries? They tend to do their own thing..

I am just saying that attention to details is important, wheter it is for the logo or the actual product.

I would not avoid a product because of a company logo as long as the product can satisfy my need. But there are a lot of people out there who buy stuff based primarily on look.

The point being made is such a purchasing manager wouldn't last long in the semiconductor industry. This is an area of hard nosed data, not looks.
