Why is it likely? Why would Apple leak this story, when this would be contrary to their practice in every other case that anyone can recall? I suppose you have a theory. What is it?

Do you know what the financial times is? Do you know their reputation? Do you know how they source stories? I already laid out that they have not and would not run a story on every company who claims apple might by them. For this story to have run they had confirmation from within apple.

I don't know where people got the idea that apple has never leaked anything. Sure they don't ocherstrate large scale leaks for products but employees and reporters have always had relationships. For crying out loud Gruber has sources at apple that tip him off on stuff all the time.

People have created this weird mythos around apple and jobs where nothing ever got leaked. That is not reality.

To reiterate the financial times did not run this story because someone at Beats told them apple was interested in buying them. They got verification from someone in Apple. There are companies every day who claim apple. Google or Microsoft are going to buy them, almost all of them lying.

I suggest you do some research on the publication in question and educate yourself. They are not neatApplerumorstuff.me

Did you understand the question? No, they did not need confirmation from Apple. You have totally ignored the question of why they would verify any rumor of this kind, probably because it's so obvious that there's no reason why they would. In fact the FT story says that Apple declined to comment. In fact the FT story said only that acquisition was likely, not that it was at all certain.

We all know that things do sometimes escape the inner sanctum at Apple, because we read this site, but overwhelming, the rumors of acquisitions, products, and every other thing, comes from other sources. We have even seen Apple retaliate against companies that jump the gun on some pending deal. It looks like the same thing could be happening here. That's the subject of the story on which we are commenting.

I suggest that you do some research on the history of Apple and educate yourself.

Do you seriously believe that Apple cares who approves, or least of all, about the views of opinionated geeks?

Hmm, good point.
But anyone can have second thoughts or doubts. This acquisition is pretty different from the normal Apple acquisition, right? They would presumably continue the Beats brand under their own management. If this were a bit of tech like normal, Apple would ignore everyone because only Apple knows what it is going to do with the tech. But this is an acquisition of fashion and leadership. You aren't really acquiring Jonny I. for his media contacts, Apple can contact anyone and they will return Apple's call and clear the calendar for a meeting whenever Apple wants. You are acquiring Jonny I. because he is going to lead your media strategy. Otherwise, what is the point? That is pretty different.

I suspect they are having second thoughts, mainly to do with the future role of Dr. Dre at Apple. His brag video could not have gone over well. Either way, here we are, more than two weeks after the story broke, and nothing has happened. My concern is if it falls through, the story will be spun as a failure by Apple to complete a move in a chosen direction. This is one of the reasons why I think it's ridiculous to assume that Apple confirmed the talks to the media. They'd have nothing to gain and everything to lose.

Certainly big in Asia - they're overwhelmingly the top brand you see in Philippines, India, Japan, etc.

Not to say they're the best or even the top seller, but they're the one you see advertised and displayed everywhere.

Odd - I haven't seen a single pair or a single ad in Singapore. I'm really going to start looking harder.

Financial times. The publication that said there would be a new Apple TV very soon in February ?

I am sure they will eventually be correct on that report.

Personally, i don't think i'd care what Apple did in 50 years, because i wouldn't be around to benefit any of it...

I think Beats has made it trendy to walk around with large headphones on. Before then, it was kind of geeky to do so.

Wearing even the white ipod ear phones is isolating enough, wearing full on Cans is just cutting yourself off and making a very public statement at the same time.

If we follow the view that Beats phones are a good tie-in product then where to from here ? Should Apple by Louis Vuitton ? every woman who owns a LV bag probably has an iPhone, they are a profitable company, they appeal to the same segment - clearly everyone who owns an iPhone doesn't aspire to own an LV bag; but the same is just as true about Beats cans.
- In fact LV are at the top end of the industry - something that cannot be said for Beats.

Perhaps thats why Ahrendts was hired, to move into fashion ;)

I have lots of Louis. Never bought an iPhone. I agree on the headphones/earbuds. I don't enjoy plugging things into my head. Phones are for home alone time only.

Doubt it makes sense for Apple to buy LV. I prefer that to Beats. First choice is keep the 3.2 bil :)

Dr. Dre - Billion $ Blunder

If the deal scuttles, Dr. Dre (or whatever his mother named him) won't be the first billionaire in hip hop and will be left crying with his tens of millions instead. LMAO

LVMH's market cap of pretty much exactly 100,000,000,000 USD might be a bit offputting, even for Apple.

Doh, i'm suggesting the opposite. Apple is a premier tech company. It should spend that sort of change on companies that are core to the development of its own computer hardware/software business.
Otherwise they could be buying Ferrari for Car Play or some other luxury brand.
The truth is Beats are not technically best of class in Headphones so they bring limited value t the party.

Try as they may, Apples in over their head. Out of their element. The masters of spin control have stepped in it this time.

They simply can't sanitize hard core rap, hip hop, glorifying drugs, alcohol, the thug life and demeaning women.

That Apple would even go this far is appalling. Proof positive they're rather lost, drifting about as they try and regain past relevance. Luckily Steve programmed the masses to worship & buy all things Apple. That's all that's carrying them as of late. A phenomenon that cannot last forever.

Apples current ace in the hole is the upcoming iPhone 6. They've spent years depriving their users of a proper sized display. As a result the demand is massive, the sales will reflect that and buy the time that Apple so desperately needs. This is one movie that's only going to get better.

This deal is dead. Apple was interested, then leaked the idea to see what people would say. At this point they aren't going to do it, unless Beats gives them a huge discount off the $3B+ price mentioned originally. But even then, it sounds like Apple might just want to wash their hands of it.

What are you talking about? Sounds like a whole lotta non-sense. We are talking about a headphones company not a hiphop music creation company. Apple still sells all the hard core rap and hip hop glorifying drugs alcohol and thug life demeaning women music on iTunes just like everyone else does.... so please stop with the racist rants.

The drug war is a sham always has been to the point drug laws are really only enforced when the minorities are the offenders. Additionally, as far as demeaning women, you might want to talk to your conservative friends about their treatment of women....and why they think women shouldn't make as much for doing the same work or why they shouldn't be allowed to make their own medical decisions. Ask them why they think raping women is god's will.

Assuming the deal isn't going to happen. Dr. Dre should've kept his mouth shut and so should his people. Ohhh well....

Can't take the hood out of a thug.

I hope Apple nixes the deal and then Dre gets his @$$ handed to him by the BEATS board and management.

Apple should just hire Iovine and just forget the rest of BEATS.

* agree completely on the Iovine portion -> he was the only valuable part of the equation in my opinion anyway.

THIS. People think that money somehow instills class, taste and erudition: IT DOESN'T...!
Many people think that class erudition and taste is all a matter of opinion. They are probably not wrong. Dr. Dre and friends were smart enough to even be sitting at the the table with Apple in the first place. However, Dr. Dre was stupid to open his mouth before the paper work had been signed. Smart people make dumb mistakes all the time. That doesn't make them any less smart. It makes them human.

The Dr Dre video was just embarrassing. All it needed was him laying on a bed of money surrounded by lines of coke and some whores. I can't believe Apple really what this kind of person as part of their culture. It just smacks of desperation.

That's the reason I can't believe this has anything to do with bringing a coolness and 'hip' factor to Apple. Apple is already the hip and fashionable brand that everyone is trying to copy.

This is certainly an interesting acquisition if it goes ahead.

Don't act like the finance guys don't do this same thing. It's been well documented. It's only when life throws the black guy a bone do white people get all up in arms about it. Claiming black people don't know how to act. Black people act just like everyone else making a billion dollar sale of their business.

End the misery

Message for Dr. Dre:

“Just beat it.”

It is insane for Apple to pay over a billion dollars for 200,000 customers (many of whom may already be Apple customers anyway).

Well I mean they already sell Beats headphones as the flagship high end headphones. It doesn't change much.

But Dr Dre made the Chronic and is responsible for Snoop Dogg, Tupac, and Eminem/50 cent - a who's who of the most gangster rappers in the history of rap and not only the artists but is largely responsible for making it so influential on the youth of last generations.

Today young minorities are raised by the internet moreso than by rap.

But almost all of the bad influence of rap on people which is documented to be real, was ushered in by Dr Dre.

He is literally responsible for the bad influence of many generations.

And deep down inside, despite how he might act in the business world, he will always be a thug at heart, that is his true character.

And thugs and Apple don't mix or match or integrate because the world view is completely different. But at the same time it will feel like Apple is more "minority friendly" in spirit so minorities will feel more "ownership" of the brand and more likely to have it serve their racist identity. In general minorities like to feel their style is based on some sort of urban code.

Like how Jay-Z famously anti-endorsed some alcohol and minorities stop drinking it because thats no longer a cool urban champagne anymore.

This kinda makes Apple the opposite of that.

But the problem is that ownership canibalizes the ownership feeling that the average BMW driver would have of clean sterile professionalism.

I guess we have to forgive Tyrese for acting all insecure because that is part of the average minority mental state and there are millions of people like them out there who are people too and buying products. Probably too many android products.

iPhone has always been the number one urban choice, but maybe now that is changing with the small screen in a big screen era era.
