I do not like the idea of websites being designed specfically for the ipad/iPhone it takes away the internet in your hand feeling and replaces it with a WAP browser feeling. However I'm all for getting rid of flash so I'm conflicted.

I hope websites don't do such sites, and just stick to their desktop websites.

But this could be great for people who wants to do apps that wouldn't have a snowball's chance in hell going through Apple's approval process. *cough*

And just sayin', but you can access the site now on your iPads - http://help.apple.com/ipad/mobile/interface

I wonder what AdLib means, if not AdvertisementLibrary?

The "OMG" wasn't a big enough clue? ;)

Apple probably doesn't want to be associated with that cult right now....

Wow, very offensive. The Catholic church has very serious problems. Believe me, Catholics are deeply, deeply concerned about the direction of the church. But you should not dismiss it as a cult.

It has its own cult to attend too, it doesn't need to assciate with an ancient religion that has no relevance in the technological age whatsoever.

Due to its absurdity, this isn't quite so offensive. You're probably better off not commenting on things to don't understand.

But you should not dismiss it as a cult.

Not dismissing it - just using the primary definition of the word.

cult [kʌlt]
n
1. (Christian Religious Writings / Theology) a specific system of religious worship, esp with reference to its rites and deity

Collins English Dictionary – Complete and Unabridged 6th Edition 2003.

I agree here. Religion = cult. I've never seen someone come up with a definition where "cult" is good and "religion" is bad that wasn't extremely hypocritical. At best, a useful definition of cult is a subset of a religion (for example, Catholic religious orders within the church).

Due to its absurdity, this isn't quite so offensive. You're probably better off not commenting on things to don't understand.

He was using the word "cult" because of its negative connotations, but really, there is no useful division between the two. For better or worse, the Catholic church IS a cult. As are all the others.

Are you saying that you sincerely used cult as a pure synonym of religion? If so, apology accepted. If not, still offended here.

...He was using the word "cult" because of its negative connotations...

I know. That's why I'm offended. Play silly semantics games all you want. It was meant as an insult and I took it that way.

No, I consider Christianity to be a religion. Roman Catholics (and Baptists and Methodists and Latter Day Saints and...) are subsets. "Cult" and "sect" are a couple of words that could be used to describe the subsets. "Sects" are often splinter groups - not exactly appropriate for the Vatican. "Church" is another, but that refers to a building or congregation as well.

"Cult" is an appropriate term - "a specific system of religious worship".

It's also significant that I spent nearly a decade living in French-speaking countries, where "the Catholic Church" would be translated as "le culte catholique" (http://www.ville-soreze.fr/html/VQE/Culte.html). If I were in a word association exercise, and you said "cult" my instant response would be "catholique".

I'm sorry that you're offended, but there was nothing in my post to associate with an extreme definition of "cult". The Catholic Church is going through some turmoil right now - and my statement was just that Apple probably wouldn't want to run an ad campaign showing Pope Benedict using an Ipad at this moment.

Saying that Apple doesn't need to be associated another religion because it has its own following to look after is offensive? NO it wasn't meant as an insult, but a play on the joke that Apple has a religious-like following.

PS. I'm a religious person too.

One thing more vexing than posting 'off-topic' rants, at a fairly consistent rate on this forum, is the tenacity of one's persistence at perpetuating and escalating said 'off-topic' rants, ad nauseam.

I have a personal rule for such things. Each post must be shorter than the last.
