Honestly I'd rather Apple were concentrating on other things than this. I don't deny it could produce useful results, it's just not something that excites me very much. As with other areas like maps where they are 'reinventing the wheel', I don't know whether it'd be better to just leave it to Google or whoever and concentrate more on updating widely-used apps and hardware. Because they arguably need to.
As for all the exclusively off-topic posts complaining about supposed 'trolls' (to whomever it may apply), it's a forum, you don't have to find jokes funny or agree with everything, but accepting you won't like what everyone posts (as long as it's within forum rules) should be some kind of baseline surely? Moaning about posts you don't like because they are 'adding nothing to the discussion' whilst adding nothing on-topic is even worse, even if you accept your own premise, no? Just chill out a bit. A different sense of humour or opinion to you doesn't mean someone is trying to troll.
I know when I make 'jokey' posts it's almost always with an underlying point too. It might be worth trying to understand people's points of view rather than immediately calling them trolls because they haven't posted a long, dry, technical commentary on every issue immediately pertinent to the subject matter of the articles. And at least offer your own opinion on-topic maybe so the whiff of hypocrisy isn't quite so pungent. Just saying.

Siri is a joke compared to the competition. It seems like they completely forgot about it shortly after its release...like five years ago. Anyone defending it either doesn't use it often or is completely delusional/fanboy. It's almost unbelievable how much better Google, and especially Amazon, is then Siri. I guess this is what happens when you focus on Watch bands and dongles.

In a perfect world, the complainers would create their own thread to moan to their hearts content. That echo chamber would soon become boring. The complain about complainers would create their own separate thread as well, to howl at the moon in ironic ignorance. They could cross over into each others threads and work themselves into a self righteous lather. At some point they'd realize they are just opposite sides of the same dumbass coin. The rest of us could enjoy the site, blissfully unaware.
To be fair, the AI scientists can't really help with other areas. Unlike Mac engineers reportedly being taken from desktops to work on laptops, there's no overlap in responsibility.

No, there wasn't. Go read the archives of old MR articles. Just normal discussions. Heck most 'incidents' from Apple products didn't even get articles then.

No, they won't. When someone's raison d'être here is to be a griefer, expecting that they will eventually contribute something useful is foolish. Guys. Guys. Just because a post has a humorous tone, it doesn't mean its a joke. Quite honestly, Apple is struggling to deliver anything new outside of fashion and image. My comment stands, and has much more substance than the peanut gallery retorts.
Apple needs to actually start doing some real work in the AI space.. Google is absolutely crushing them here and before you know it, Apple will be just getting started while everyone else is on to the next generation of AI ..

I think the recent sad state of affairs is due to increased postings from school kids out on Christmas break.
I can't get "Hey, Siri" to work on my iPhone 7, nor my grandparents iPhone 7 that we just set up from scratch on 10.1 factory or later on 10.2. It just briefly flashes and goes away. When I was talking to her manually, she kept cutting out part way through. What is going on? Can't even use their AI, much less tell if it's any good today. Christmas overload?
Apples been working on AI for years now and parts of their AI research is further along then Google's .. What is your complaint?

No offense, but the reason why this "doesn't excite you very much" is because you don't seem to know much about it. What you've seen so far on your devices is just the beginning, it won't be long until it will transform the way people use their smartphones and computers. Apple really does not want to miss that train.
