Yeah, that's right, you got it. One post and you can tell the kind of guy I am.

Apple kept nothing here - they did not give away money. This cost them nothing. It's marketing, nothing else.

Apple will still pay the developer of the apps purchased, with the $10,000 iTunes gift certificate, their 70%. Some people only see the negative even if the gesture is good even though it might be small. Why not go rag on companies like BP who took a tax right off of $10B for monies they paid as a result of the oil spill.

iBooks Author for Apps

I'd love to see Apple create a development platform for Apps, like iBooks Author, that allows prosumers and non-developers to make simple ad hoc apps for communities, schools, and small businesses that may not be able to afford hiring outside help. There are a lot of people with great ideas out there and it would be great to see small local stuff on the app store.

So with 500k+ apps that's an average of around 40 downloads per app. That's a lot of work put in by developers to only get 40 sales!

You might want to download a calculator app. And not for a chance of winning $10K...

Who are you yelling at? Nobody is acting like they're doing something great. Something good though, yes. Setting up a market where developers have sold 25b apps is impressive. The marking of the milestone isn't supposed to be anything but that.

uh, wasn't yelling, just agreeing with his quote.

Well lets send an email to Tim Cook so he won't bother with this crap anymore cause you think it isn't 'great' enough.

Yea, I guess it's all about what I think. Cause I am the only one on this board that states an opinion.

Apple has to filter more the quality of the apps. 95% of all apps are trash, and the good apps are hard to find.

QFT. They should also measure the retention level of apps. How long people keep apps on their iphones/ipad/itouch after downloading them.

lol. It has been around for quite some time, don't you know about it yet?

It's called Xcode.

You and the guy on top who are lol-ing and being sarcastic you didn't understand the op to begin with. He asked for ad hoc apps for prosumers and non devs, what's Xcode have to with that? He also mentioned iBooks author as opposed to writing ePub code. But yeah, lol and roll eyes and feeling superior while actually acting like fools and embarrassing yourselves.

Ok so Xcode is too much for you?
And what about html5, is it too much too?

This is the approach that is leading Apple to fail in some areas: simplify too much the life to the lazies. Providing more streamlined apps (e.g. iMovie, Garageband) instead of PRO apps. The funny thing is that for you Apple is always wrong:
- they release Final Cut Pro X -> they are forgetting about the PRO users
- they don't release "iApp Author" -> they miss to deliver an ultimate tool for the developers

To stick to the topic: seriously, there are already LOADS of crappy apps on the app store... How in the world could you create an app with a drag and drop editor? Even with iBooks Author you need to know at least html5 to deliver something slightly enjoyable...

C'mon people, there is no 5 minute app-cookbook. Adobe tried to make dumb-keen html editor with Muse but they just demonstrated how the approach fails at every level.

I will lol at you when Apple will eventually discontinue Xcode. Think about that. lol

And how are they supposed to do that with a mass privacy violation

They already do that: almost every app has at least one different tracking "spyware" embedded, like localytics or something similar.
The usage is tracked and there are certain parameters to measure if you opt-out, more or less based on the actual usage patterns. Of course the deletion is not itslef trackable at this stage.

I don't see how Apple is not already keeping similar app statistics, I assume they have all the equipment and knowledge to track anonymously patterns of usage and behaviors of consumers. It's very likely they do it already, we should take a better look to our agreements with apple to find it out.

I know that half of the apps are either useless or a clone of another app, so most of those apps only bloat the number of apps downloaded.

What the hell are you on about? Someone asked for a simplified software to automate app creation a la iBooks author for people that need to create a few sets of pretty much standardised apps for mostly theirs or their institutions use. And you sneered at them, with well there's Xcode. Well that's not what they asked for though. I didn't opine on whether his request is valid or not, i would agree though it would help a lot of people out, but of course it could never supersede Xcode. I don't want, and I don't expect Xcode to go, how could it? How else would people code then?

There are multiple 3rd party prosumers and non-developer app creation platforms and services already. But most of the apps that these platforms create can be done as web sites. And just like web sites, it's hard to make a good app without hiring (or becoming) people that know what they're doing.

Yeah I've downloaded the crap ton of games and usually get bored of them quick and delete them. I probably only play maybe 3-5 games on a regular basis.

If the "I am rich" app was still around, I would sooooo buy that one...and then continue to "gift-it" away 9 times!

I am on about the fact that there is no need for such a tool. It will only help to inflate the number of useless apps around.

I mean it might have market. But no value as it won't be possible to do anything useful without coding (as it is today).

Can you just simply respond without so very apparently down voting my posts?

I fail to see how something can have a market but no value, even with coding only and no so to speak front end tons of rubbish apps abound by the way.
