EXACTLY, I'd rather have $10,000 at the Apple store. $10,000 in iTunes content is a bit redundant.

Yeah, I did the math, too. 10k at the Apple store would set me up with an upgraded household if I replaced all my hardware right now.

This is including a good 27" iMac, a mid-level mac-mini for home theater use, a 32Gb iPad 3 for my wife and I each, a reduced price 16Gb iPad for my son, a new Time Capsule (I still have a 500Gb model), AppleCare plans all around, leaving me with around $3,000USD for an Apple Television. If I don't spend the whole 3k on a set, iTunes gift cards with the remainder.

That household upgrade will last me 3-5 years, dependent on usage, whereas $10k in apps, iTunes, iBooks can last my household 10-15 years.

Or if built to the right specifications 1 Mac Pro! lol :D

How much will a 10k gift card fetch in eBay ?

It's not going to be a physical card. They don't have one that larger and it would be a pain to send that in a stack of $100 cards. They will find out the person's apple ID and directly apply the credit to the account. thus preventing such cute tricks.

but lets not act like Apple has done anything great here.

Well lets send an email to Tim Cook so he won't bother with this crap anymore cause you think it isn't 'great' enough.

Hooray! And about 80% of them are free downloads. The other 19.9% are the same old apps that stay at the top of the lists.

I remember with the first billion (or ten billion or whatever it was) that I tried to time it, but I was way off... this time I started when there was a million left on the counter and just started clicking away like crazy at free apps on the computer. I reloaded Apple's homepage on my phone a few times until it announced 25 billion.

Now I've got to wait for 500 apps to download so I can delete them. Ha!
$10,000 is $10,000 but how on earth could I spend that on the iTunes store?

Personally it would last me about 7 or 8 years if I used the money regularly. Mac Apps, Phone Apps, music and movies and TV. I've already canceled cable for iTunes & Netflix, we'd probably subscribe to a couple more shows with this :)

Did I winz?

IDK about anyone else, but I would find a way to translate that money into real money, or apple store gift-cards and buy a Macbook and an iPad 3.

With the proper arrangement somewhere you could purchase items for people as gifts at a 10% discount to them or something... just a thought.

Is this the iOS App Store only? or does it also include the Mac App Store as well?

They should made this a regular contest with a smaller gift card, although too bad they are legally required to allow free entries (otherwise they might be more likely to do it). Think about how many people would download to try to win.

Exactly my thought.

Now, $10,000 in the Apple Store - I could definitely find ways to spend that amount.

But $10,000 in apps and music!!??

You'd have to spend a fortune to set up a NAS to hold $10,000 worth of apps and music.

Well, think of it this way: You don't have to pay for music, TV shows, movies, or apps ever again (well, until you run out, which won't happen for a while.

What makes me sad is the fact I see so many people getting pissed off at Apple for giving this away. How bitter are you when the idea in $10,000 worth of prizes just pisses you off. Did you ever think of taxes? If Apple just gave away cash chances are the government would swoop in and jack most of it. I would be giddy as all hell with $10,000 worth of iTunes credit. I wouldn't have to worry about buying another album, movie or tv show for some time. Awesome.

At my age, I wouldn't run out EVER!

Money left over in the account would probably be the most fiscally valuable part of my estate!! :D

Apple is quickly becoming the fiendish leader of their own landmark "1984" commercial. They have been creating a closed software and hardware ecosystem that is becoming more restrictive every year. I've been in this business since the 1970's and Apple had better remember their participation in U.S. Dept of Justice v. Microsoft complaint.

What ever happened to, "Think Different"?

Guess no one cares that Apple FINALLY fixed the ...<snip>

Well, certainly no one in this thread, which is completely unrelated to wifi problems, cares. Unless of course wifi problems caused you to miss out on the 25 billionth download.

Back on topic, anyone know whether it is downloads or 'purchases' (treating free apps etc as purchases) that are counted? i.e., whether their count is only initial installs or for all downloads including updates to already-installed apps?

Since updated apps require a full re-download rather than just a patch, and they do specify 'downloads' I'd guess at the latter, which would be better for me since I forgot to go installing new apps this week but did upgrade quite a few :)

For some, everything is half-empty

...how generous from a company that's sitting on 100 billion in cash.

$10,000 is enough to buy two well-equipped Mac Pros or one really well equipped one with two 30" displays. Oooh, how I could wish for that.

I sooooo hope I win, but fat chance eh!

I'd see me right for about 10 years with all them music I'd buy!

First thing I'd do is complete the discography's for all my favourite bands (buy all the little B-sides and EP's, and music videos and stuff). That's be awesome :)
