An announcement from Zynga has expressed their gratitude for receiving the $10,000.

What is someone really gonna do with a $10,000 gift card to the app stores? Buy Angry Birds for 5.000 of their closest friends? :)

I was wondering the same thing. It would be like getting a $10,000 gift certificate to Baskin-Robbins. How much ice cream can a person eat? I already own Logic and Aperture. I'd buy Final Cut Pro, which I'd take full advantage of by editing the short iPhone videos I take of my dog and cat doing cute things; iMove just isn't powerful enough. I have more iPad and iPhone apps than will fit on my devices. I got most of them during free promotions, and I don't use most of them. I'm fifty-something, and I've been collecting music for decades, so there aren't many albums I want that I don't already have. Why didn't Apple let the winner apply that $10K toward Apple hardware, as well? That would have been a great first prize.

But I didn't win, so what am I complaining about?

What on earth would I do with 10,000 bucks to use on the Mac App Store or regular App Store? Maybe some mac hardware instead........

Forgot this was on. I bought Pages, House of the Dead, and Virtua Tennis tonight ... over an hour ago now though, maybe more, so I was probably too early.

I read the Android App store just hit 48 Billion. I wonder if Apple will flaunt the next milestone even if Androids numbers will ellipse it by multiples.

They still announce & celebrate their computer sales numbers, despite the fact that the Windows install base eclipses the OSX install base... I feel like you're struggling to create some conflict that does not, in fact exist.

Apps for your computer, apps for your ipad, apps for your iphone, music, films, shows, books, subscription services (Netflix, Spotify) or instead spend all the money on in-app purchasing poker game :D

I was. :D I have been downloading apps like crazy in the last 30 minutes.

Good luck everyone! :apple:

Who else was in there at the last minute really gunning for it and downloading apps? I bet their traffic went up in the last 10 minutes!

I was just about to download some apps this morning but I didn't and I'm crying over it. Mostly because I forgot about the contest. Oh well, I never win these things.

I'd rather have a new MBP as a prize but I guess I could've lived with app bucks.

50,000,000,000 downloads.
$9,000,000,000 distributed to developers.
That's an average of $0.18/download.

At one point, I was watching the countdown number. I was also getting a few free apps... I saw it roll over 100,000 apps in one move.

it went from something like:

49,945,42x,xxx to
49,945,5xx,xxx

After witnessing that, I felt that a fix was on.

Good news for the "winner". *rolls eyes*

Well of course it's fixed. Apple really gives a ***t who wins. Really important to them.

Or possibly not...

Any idea why the 50,000,000,000 was different for each country?

:confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused:

I think I remember that one or two people in this forum had slight problems with understanding the counter as well.

The number was just a general graphical display of the numbers without the purpose of showing the actual value in real time. Apple stated in their rules "Any download counter displayed by Sponsor is for illustrative purposes only. The potential winners will be determined by the order of the entries received."

Talking about "scam" is pretty strange, imho.
