So I looked through this thread and I didn't see anyone mention the Hololens.
Microsoft has been making this for years, they are currently on the Hololens 2. It has similar capabilities to this device and it is at a similar price point (I think the cheapest one is now $3,500 and it goes up from there.)
Although games do exist for that device it is 100% aimed at business applications (look at their Hololens website for details). With everyone screaming about how dumb it is for Apple to come out with a $3,000 product that cannot succeed in the consumer marketplace, did it occur to anybody that at least this flagship model will be targeted primarily for business?
Even though they have had their greatest success with consumer products it is not as if they don't make some products that are more targeted for business than consumer (Mac Pro, MacBook Pro).
I guess we will know for sure in a few days but I would guess this is what they are doing because I agree they aren't going to sell many of these to gamers, but it could definitely compete with the Hololens. Also, the fact it is AR rather than VR points in this direction since the AR capability is pretty vital in typical business applications.
