Windows is a different platform, just like MacOS is.

I'll choose the safety restrictions afforded by a walled garden over openness every time.

A loose comparison of what these complainers are doing is like demanding that an automobile manufacturer open their proprietary entertainment systems to allow other companies to insert their applications on.

I could care less about any of these complainers. They knew the terms going in and signed a contract that renews annually. There was no protest when they started, but only after they had success.

The consumers are the only ones who will lose if these 3rd party crybabies get their way. We will not see lower prices and will have to negotiate with all of these 3rd parties payment systems when there are incorrect charges.
If there had been an App Store in iOS from the beginning I’d buy into that more. Steve Jobs announced that developers would be able to make rich websites in Safari and not apps. Developers immediately started working on making apps on the platform. Installer.app and Cydia came out a year before Apple’s App Store. Apple then came out with their own store and forced the original stores out.

To use your automobile comparison-
It is like Apple created the car (iPhone), but it lacked a radio (3rd party apps). Someone else (installer.app and Cydia) created a radio that let you tune to any station (apps with no restrictions). Apple then added their own radio to the next revision of the car but it only plays certain stations that they approve (App Store guidelines). However, they didn’t stop there, but also broke the existing radios and continue to break them so that you are forced to only use the one they included in the car.

To continue to use your very shakey anaology, there is nothing stopping me buying a different brand of car, if the radio is such an issue.

I really don't care about Facebook - not even a user. However, as a Game Pass subscriber, their stance on the MS streaming app is terrible. Apple is definitely NOT being consumer friending with this decision.

I find it interesting that Facebook has complained about Apple’s 30% cut but they are taking the same cut...

One day I hope people will wake up and stop giving Facebook and similar their time and data so we can regain some normalcy in this world but it’ll probably get much worse before it gets better.

The more Apple limits and pisses off Facebook, the more I will continue to support Apple and buy their products.

Also, a terrible experience. If they built ads into my PS4 games, I'd be out instantly.

I never understood the mobile gaming craze in general; maybe it's because I grew up on consoles, but I feel like it's the best option (PlayStation or Xbox). I tried a few games on my phone, but instantly lost interest. I still love my PS4 though.

NBA2k has ads in game.

The first set of games available this week include "Asphalt 9: Legends" by Gameloft, "Mobile Legends: Adventure" by Moonton, "PGA TOUR Golf Shootout" by Concrete Software, Inc., "Solitaire: Arthur's Tale" by Qublix Games, and "WWE SuperCard" by 2K Games. "Dirt Bike Unchained" by Red Bull is set to be added in the coming weeks.
What's worth to point out here: each and every of these games is already available as native iOS app.

Facebook is attempting to directly compete with Apple's App Store.

So much for "arbitrary" policies.

...
In the end, this is all bad for consumers.
What's bad for consumers? The safety of the app store that apple provides with it's policies. I don't think anybody is stopping anybody from using their device the way they want...just need to figure out how to load an alternate o/s on it.

We should be able to run whatever programs we want on our computers.

Nobody is stopping anybody from being creative, if one can figure it out.

Just because it can fit in your pocket doesn't change anything.
Again, one can do what they want. Realistically if one doesn't like a manufacturer there is another.

It is hard to believe that we've gone backwards in openness of computers. Imagine if during all the anti-trust stuff with Microsoft if they had announced - starting tomorrow you can no longer run any apps on Windows unless we get 30% 😂
How have we gone backwards? Vote with your dollars.:apple:

The ESRB rates these games already, so I'm glad that the competition is putting marketing pressure on Apple (gamers miss out) and finding a way to make Apple's position one that only costs Apple money
It’s not about rating games. It’s about knowing what is being presented on your platform as a representation of you. The quality of play and the hackability fall on Apple for anything on their platform and can harm their credibility. On the other hand if it is a cloud game meaning online they should run it on a web browser, how about they make thier own browser like chrome and Apple would not care at all. If people are interested in what they are doing and they don’t need apples resources to make it function then it would not matter.

Soon we’ll be playing a ‘game’ and then we’ll find the only way to continue is by buying a list of things from the supermarket.

Perhaps you should google "Facebook" and check how many customers they have.
They have virtually no customers, because customers tend to buy your products. But I agree if one considers the definition of customers=product (along with your personal information) then yeah, they have a lot.

Cry me a river...

Apple may adjust to allow these sorts of things in the future, if they proliferate and turn out not to be just giant data mining operations, but it is stupidity to the highest degree to vilify them for taking time to make adjustments. It's not that way "arbitrarily" or because they're evil, it's just how it's been since they invented the app store. Nothing was wrong with the policies until all these corporations suddenly got into a mobile-game-streaming arms race.
Why would FaceBook be making a big issue over anything that is not important datamining? Apple’s privacy drive is annoying Zuckerberg.

snip... What if Facebook ran a non-dismissible banner in the normal facebook app saying that Apple is no longer allowing their app and to call them. If they eventually left the app with no content, but only a message to contact Apple (phone support, genius bar appointments, etc.) they could overwhelm Apple's support.
Silly scenario.
The app would be pulled. At that point it would be serving no purpose.

Agreed. Gaming on mobile was supposed to be the next big thing. And it was... but only from a cash standpoint. Few if any games have given us anything beyond console games, nor have they carved out a niche of creativity of their own. I get that it’s not fair to compare the two directly, but even if you account for the differences, Mobile gaming is just a cesspool of ads and money grabs. Even Nintendo turned into a cash grab.

After 12 years, I’m still waiting for a mobile game that makes me go “wow” and holds my attention.

Don't forget that the parental controls that Apple offers would be bypassed if 3rd parties like Facebook get their way.
