Facebook could probably force Apple to change.

Imagine a scenario similar to cable/satellite tv providers negotiating with content providers. The content providers start running a banner saying to call the cable/satellite company to keep their content and then can pull it.

What if Facebook ran a non-dismissible banner in the normal facebook app saying that Apple is no longer allowing their app and to call them. If they eventually left the app with no content, but only a message to contact Apple (phone support, genius bar appointments, etc.) they could overwhelm Apple's support.

In the end, this is all bad for consumers. We should be able to run whatever programs we want on our computers. Just because it can fit in your pocket doesn't change anything. It is hard to believe that we've gone backwards in openness of computers. Imagine if during all the anti-trust stuff with Microsoft if they had announced - starting tomorrow you can no longer run any apps on Windows unless we get 30% 😂
or lets say games like Leisure Suit Larry where banned as too adult (say back in the 80's if we had app store lock in)

THEY should and the best we can hope for is not only the app store lock in is killed also things like ESPN are not foreced on to all subs!

Meanwhile, Facebook are only allowing users of Oculus to access functionality of their device if they agree, from 2023, to permanently remain logged in to Facebook.

On iOS I can download an app without my device being signed in to iCloud at all, then sign out of the App Store and continue to use it.

Also, a confusing side note, how is Facebook able to operate the oculus store on iOS with its own payment gateway.
Have Apple just not noticed 🧐

Better not play any EA sports games then. They’re getting bad press for putting unskippable ads in NBA 2K21.
Ads... on a game... that you have to pay over $60+ up front (assuming the default console disc/digital price). Good god.
Well, EA are actually the masterminds since like the late 90s for doing crazy micro transactions, DRM blocking, always online to be able to play, etc shenanigans.

Regarding Facebook, I remember at the very beginnings way over a decade ago, it already had games? Like the Habbo Hotel, FarmVille (or similar), etc? Flappy birds-like I saw them first there years before the actual flappy bird, embedded Bejweled, etc... what happened to these games? Is this a reboot of sorts?

Also, a terrible experience. If they built ads into my PS4 games, I'd be out instantly.

I never understood the mobile gaming craze in general; maybe it's because I grew up on consoles, but I feel like it's the best option (PlayStation or Xbox). I tried a few games on my phone, but instantly lost interest. I still love my PS4 though.
I don't play any video games. I think they're all silly... but if you want to flush your time and money down the drain. Go for it.

Thanks!

(Personally, I think taking the time to read an article and its three-page forum thread and then post a comment when you have no interest in the subject is silly… but if you want to flush your time down the drain, go for it.)

I am interested in the processes employed and the interactions that occur between technology companies. Regardless, I now see my post was worthless. Sorry.
