Why would someone choose a free iPod 8gb ($169 CAD) over a iPod Touch ($259 CAD)? I think it's more likely Apple would offer the iPod 16GB which is still cheaper than the iPod Touch 8GB.

"Yaer... I remember the good old days. When web pages were nothing but animated gifs, when 14.4k was blazing, and when we had no way of filling up the 160MB HDD on our LC 575..." :p

Not as classic as you, perhaps, but the early Golden Age of the Internet was good.

Maybe that was the Golden Age of the WWW, but that wasn't the Golden Age of the Internet. The Golden Age of the Internet was when email used uucp, and you needed to specify the exact path, by machine name, that your message would take to reach its destination. And if you were lucky it would beat snail mail.

Why was that the Golden Age? Because it was before the average shmoe had ever heard of the Internet, and there was no need to worry about spam.

Double bonus.

Right now, Apple is offering their standard academic $200 off a Mac Book Pro.
Once they offer the Back to School Promo will they remove the $200 off and only offer the iPod/iPhone as the promo or will they still offer the $200 + the iPod/iPhone?

macnn is saying the promo starts NEXT tuesday, which seems more inline with previous back to school promos, which generally start somewhere in the first few days of June.

Could this be a typo or a misinterpretation?
i sure hope not!! i guess we'll find out tomorrow!

is the back to school sale the same price as using your schools discount? i need a mbp and im not sure which will be worth it, my school discount or the back to school sale?

You'll get your standard education discount in addition to online/mail-in rebate for a free iPod/Phone and the normal free printer rebate.

It'll only work in an Apple Store or from Apple online and it has to be a single receipt. If you're getting a school discount that goes above and beyond Apple's standard discount the promotion doesn't apply.

In my day we didn't have laptops, nor iPods to be given away for free with them. Sad but true, I can even remember using my fathers slide rule for school work before calculators where a reality.

Now I read this forum and see you guys getting all stressed out about whom is getting the better deal. Sorry if I don't get all emotional in support of you guys cause you are spoiled rotten.

Some things to note:

Apples back to school programs could hardly be considered inventory clearing if they have to up production to meet demand! I'm not sure where this idea comes from, but generally you clear inventory after ramping down production.

As an iPhone user I can see where it would be a big advantage for students if Apple & AT&T could come up with a discounted rate plan specifically for students. I may think you guys are spoiled rotten but I also recognize a great tool when I see it.

I tend to agree with others that Apple needs to be a bit more agressive with this years Back To School program. Unfortunately not because of the economy but because the current laptop line up is such a poor value for students. At least when looking at aluminum Mac Books it is. Ideally the program would pull $200 off the price and toss in a 16GB iPod Touch. Whatever the program is it needs to be better than what we got last year.

That is my 2 cents.

How much did college cost back in your day?
At what level was college taught?
How much competition was there per job available in your day?
How much would be expected of a recent graduate in those days?

We may have calculators and laptops however things are much more competitive, with lower pay and much higher demands.

I was talking to a Georgia Tech graduate of 1974 for electrical engineering and we both talked about how things are now. Back then things were about tubes and all components could be seen without a microscope and could be soldered by hand.
Today things are much different, you just don't understand why you should feel sorry. Things will get much worse as we progress, the population increases and competition on a global scale becomes the norm.

As for being spoiled rotten:rolleyes: have you ever been to college? Do you understand the broken, busy work bureaucratic mess college is? Do you understand the cost involved and the sacrifices made to get through it?

Before you make a blanket statement about a group being spoiled rotten maybe you should know more about what your talking about.

No problem.

It's even more fun when you have to send your UPC to BOTH the iPod/iPhone and printer rebate centers to get a rebate.

We'll get plenty of advice threads on how to solve THAT pickle.

That's the beauty of buying online and never having to send anything in at all. Though back in 2007 I used the iPod and Printer promo but I did it somehow. Back then I did have to cut out the UPCs. When I bought my Macbook in October last year I only did the printer rebate but it was all online and no MIR involved.

I haven't done it since 2006 and even then I did it online. I suspected that with the newer online form they had found a suitable solution instead of trying to explaining to a rebate center why they got the photocopy of the UPC.

We spent a lot of time in our house debating this... Left hand of Apple not knowing what the right hand did. :D

Eventually we got the rebate after a few calls to Apple asking them why the ipod one was processed and not the other. All in all, it took four months and seemed like an unnecessary run-around.

I recall all the people complaining about the Pre's mail in rebate. Why doesn't Apple just give people their ipod without all the online rebate nonsense?

After all, students are doing them a great service padding their ipod sales as they likely already have a current ipod anyhow.

apple currently has the printer $100 rebate... will this be valid with the ipod rebate?

Uh... yeah.

Because typing in your order number is quick and painless and they can't just GIVE you crap for business reasons.

Or because a lot of people don't actually send in the rebates, and Apple saves money. :p

By the way, it's Tuesday and no back to school promo, who else is in tears this morning? :(

I never really understood this rumor - a lot of kids just graduated, and a lot of high schools and such aren't even done with school yet.

Oh how nice. More hassel. Ughhhhhh but I figured it out. Get the iPod & printer and sell it.

Imagine in 50 years someone will write something similar saying "In my days I only had an iPod, macbook and iPhone, you guys are all spoiled bla bla bla"

Please don't compare times its really not correct theme for this argument.
