This sucks

Time for a little pc time and x-box gaming. Seriosly, this is getting obsured. Does apple relize they have competition? Im not going pc yet but this is getting on my nerves. Im going to have to work something out with the manager at the local store. Summer college courses start in just a few weeks. So much for a back to school promo, pretty soon its going to be an in school promo. By then, everyone will have their pcs and be gaming away on their nice 360's, a 200 doller value. Apple, why do you put us through this?

considering that microsoft is giving free xbox 360s to students starting this year, it makes little sense for apple to decide to now stop their free ipod program. It's not like they're running low on $ or anything.

give me a free iPad and i'll go back to school this same second! :D

Because they know that true believers won't even consider anything other than Apple,
no matter what the price, specs, value or promotions.
Why should they care.
There are enough cultists to make Apple the most successful company on the planet.
Like so many acolytes on the forum chant every day,
"Go ahead and get that cheap PC/x-box. You are not worthy."
If it ain't broke...

I posted this on another thread and I hate to duplicate, but I am looking for feedback on this plan. Any help would be really appreciated.

I'm tired of waiting for the BtS special. I'd like to know if this would work as an alternative to the wait...

1) Go online today, and order a 27" iMac with SSD + 1GB HDD -- BTO
2) While I am waiting for my mac, the BtS special will probably launch
3) Call Apple Care and ask for the rebate/gift card for my order
4) If they cannot grant the deal on a past order, return my iMac once it arrives to an Apple Store (well within the 14 days) and reorder the same machine online.

Question A: Do you think Apple Care would honor the deal on an order prior to the BtS announcement?

Question B: Do you think I would be charged anything for step 4 if it went that far?

That's pretty stupid. Just wait.

I sent an email to Steve Jobs saying this was really disappointing...I didn't get a response, but it hasn't come true yet either.

$100 or iPod, whatever the promo may be, does it also extend to purchases from the reburb store? Or is it only for new purchases?

Was in my school's computer store just now and they were watching a 1pm webcast from apple that confirmed it IS the 100 gift card. I didn't catch what day it would start, and there's also the catch that right now that store doesn't carry gift cards. Not sure if they'll be able to get them to take part, or what.

Isn't this a stretch ?

For all of you who are complaining that Apple is cheap:

If the deal is a 100$ iTunes card and they give it to you at the time of purchase it is still the same discount as far as Apple is concerned. Why, you ask? The reason is that industry standard is that 40 to 60 % of rebates are not redemmed, meaning money stays in teh companies pocket which would equal the 100$.

I think it will be Apple's new, super-secret gaming system, the iBox; capable of playing existing X-box 360 games in the 4th dimension......

A: I think they will if it's within 14 days but can you return an online order to a store?

so, was the $100 off to match the education discount, or was it an "additional" $100?

I reckon they've pulled the promo at the last minute due to the bad press the $100 iTunes gift card received.

Large retail organisations such as Apple are clever, they'll visit sites such as MacRumors to discover whether or not they're addressing the needs and wants of its customers.
