I had been waiting for the promotion to start for the last month.

I am currently using my 6 years old MBP Core Duo, and after getting ready to buy a new 17" MBP (2.2ghz antiglare), I am not going to get one anymore because I am tired of all the waiting and the disappointments.

Waiting for my optibay to arrive and upgrade my MBP to SSD/HDD machine. I think I will wait until the next revision of MBP with IVY BRIDGE / NEW DESIGN.

GOOD-BYE back to school promotion!

lol I'm using my 5 year old dell insprion... This thing has like an 80 gb hdd...

You must mean 5 years old. The first MBPs came out in spring 2006.

I just e-mailed Stevezy and asked him .... "crosses fingers on getting his typical one word answer e-mail responses"

Those waiting for the B2S promo to buy you Macs:

I was in the same shoes as most people here last week, debating on whether or not I should just wait it out until the B2S promo began to purchase my new Macbook Pro. So, I contacted a manager at the local Apple store, told her I really wanted to come down and buy a mac from them today but waiting for the B2S promo was stopping me. The manager agreed to give me the B2S promo if it came out this summer, regardless of when it comes out. I'd recommend the same strategy for anyone else waiting on this promo. Just make sure the manager signs off on it on your receipt and your good to go.

no apple store here :( next apple store about 150 km away =(

I cannot believe Apple has taken so much more time than average to release this BTS promotion, ESPECIALLY with microsoft actually competing this year.

What about all the rumors that were pointing to signage that was to be put up late last night? What were those signs? Sort of confused by all of this....

I don't know but some of the leakers on twitter are claiming they do have the signs for the promotion but pushed it back for some reason.

Anyway, is it likely that Japan would get the touch and we'd get the cards instead?

i tried to do the same thing but it only works if the BSP comes out in the next 14 days

who are these leakers on twitter... and have them take pictures of the signs

I know, right. Idk... just that chronic guy and another guy who writes for 9to5mac. I don't really consider anyone credible at this point but Jobs himself. All we have is conjecture and common sense at this point. And there just seems to be something off about a "last minute" change from Apple.

To all who are wasting the precious time of Apple employees by doing unnecessary talks - stop it. They have better things to do.

Maybe they're getting ready to combat Microsofts offer with some free iPad's.... It's always good to think positive!

Rumor now is that it's tomorrow.

Good call, 9to5mac has posted this update which I did not notice on the homepage (only noticeable if you click the link)

"Update: Although Apple retail stores across the nation have received the visual materials for the 2011 Back to School promotion, Apple has pushed the day back for unknown reasons. The rest of the story still stands."

Very odd to push the day back? HOPEFULLY only until tomorrow or Friday to at least have the weekend for people to purchase a MAC!

(for apple to push back a planned promotion like this is very odd but who knows at this point?)

What did you finally get ? Mail in rebate for iPod or iTunes card?

I agree. I know apple usually does announcements earlier in the week, but there is nothing normal about this BTS cycle. If nothing happens by Friday, I think I might go ahead and take the plunge. Then again, I feel like I've said that before...

I'm not buying my new Mac until August 1st, no matter what (the day I pass through Des Moines, and get the cheapest sales tax on my road trip to school), so my only fear is that they are going to completely skip the deal this year, and I won't even get a few apps for free.

For all of you who are complaining that Apple is cheap:

If the deal is a 100$ iTunes card and they give it to you at the time of purchase it is still the same discount as far as Apple is concerned. Why, you ask? The reason is that industry standard is that 40 to 60 % of rebates are not redemmed, meaning money stays in teh companies pocket which would equal the 100$.

Even I'm starting to think this is a bit ridiculous and I usually don't even care about this sort of thing. Since it is an iTunes gift card that I won't fully use for at least 5 years (I buy maybe 2 apps a year and maybe 1 album), I'm just buying today. If something incredible happens tomorrow and they offer something else with the gift card or whatever, then I'll go from there.

I put off buying one from the day it came out, only to feel kind of disappointed since I really wanted the iPod to replace my old one with a capacity I never use.

I'm going to des moines this weekend for work, and was planning on getting the new Imac because of their low tax. My current computer is 6 years old featuring a 1.6ghz processor (don't be jealous)

Grad school and 6 year old computers don't really work well together! Frankly, I was really hoping for the $200 off an Ipad that had been rumored, but I'll take whatever I could get. I had decided on an Imac already, and anything free ($100 itunes, $200 off, ipod) would be icing on the cake.

Take what you get and be happy that you have the resources to own a computer, there are many others that are less fortunate. Many of you are coming off amazingly greedy in this thread.

Green Apple?

Maybe delayed for a possible Green Lantern Special edition MBP?

Bottom line, if you really need it get it.

If you have already waited for the BTS, no harm waiting a bit longer if you ask me. I am actually glad the rumor didn't come true.. because i personally prefer an iPod for App development.

Which ever case you are still "gaining" something extra from the BTS promotion, if it actually comes through this year whether you like it or not, Apple in some sense already own part of your life.

I've obviously got bored of waiting.....

I have just purchased a brand new 64GB iPod Touch from a reputable ebay trader with £110 off Apple's retail price and also finally ordered my iMac from the education store with a generous saving of £338. I'll also save the £20.99 on the cost of Lion when it's released so all-in-all I'm not complaining.

Delivery is scheduled to take just over a week so if the BTS promotion is announced in the next few days easy to cancel order and then re-order, also will do similar if BTS promotion is announced within next 14 days.

As a sidenote, now I've bitten the bullet the promotion will likely launch tomorrow :D:D
