I reckon it helps clue-in those people who are a bit behind on technology and wonder "where's the wire?".

My daughter would love to wear the Mickey set (but currently hasn't saved up enough pocket money!). And I'm fairly sure there are plenty of Disney fans outside the tech niche who might also like to own these.
Except, they COME with a wire too. As an option, or if you can't wait for the battery to recharge for the wireless connectivity.

Yes it charges with the most popular USB connector is use today. The odds of someone else having a micro USB cable in their home is about 100%, USB C closer to 1%.

Actually I own 0 micro usb devices. When I upgraded to the Sony MX3s from my previous headphones that put me in the USB C and lighting camp.

Lol they had to drop the price of Mickey because no one wants to wear those things.

LOL. Gotta read more closely, they did this to the most popular line too: "dropping the price of all Beats Studio3 Wireless Headphones from $349.95 to $279.95, the exact same $70 discount."

Apple should have bought Bose or Loewe instead.

This is why Apple doesn't make business decisions based on ideas that posters have on what they should buy. The Beats purchase has been one of their most financially prescient moves, having paid for itself many times over. Premium headphones have a huge mark up, and thanks to their Beats purchase, Apple is now the largest seller of wireless headphones IN THE WORLD. And Apple's Beats brand now has the majority of the premium (>$200) market IN THE ENTIRE WORLD. So, yes Apple used the Beats purchase to zoom from zero to #2 in the world in streaming audio in record time, but the "hidden" value of the purchase was the extraordinarily smart move by Cook to buy the headphone business in the same package.

As of November 2018, they were making $560 million/month from Apple Music, and it's undoubtedly higher now. In fact, they have made all their money back from the Beats purchase already. Looks like it was a pretty smart move.

56 million users doesn't equal $560m.

Subscriptions in China/India cost roughly $1.50 for everyone.

Up to 5 users can share the same family sharing account making it $3 in the US or as little as 45c each in China/India.

Students are also half price.

It's a good purchase, but your math is way off.

Still wondering if/when Apple is going to release its own brand wireless NC headphones. A big brother to the AirPods if you like. Something just won’t let me buy beats, and the Sony 1000XM3 while seeming pretty great, lack that complete Apple integration that I really want. Going to wait a bit longer with my wired AKG's I think.

I didn't talk about your wife. Calm down.

No worries, nothing personal about it, just part of the job in knocking down false or misleading internet memes. Your post presented a good opportunity for us to educate a larger group about the value of the Beats purchase.

Someone please alert audiophiles that $200 is considered premium.

You seem confused about "premium" and "audiophile." While the term is subjective, "audiophiles" and Beats both would not consider Beats headphones in the "audiophile" category. Beats doesn't make a headphone designed to compete in that rarified category, although there are rumors Apple may be producing a headphone to compete at that upper , but limited, end. Meanwhile, Beats produces headphones priced in the premium category to appeal to a much larger market, which they are successfully dominating and bringing in huge revenue and profits.

Also gotta read more closely as it's headphones costing more than $200, and yes that is the category that the industry uses to segregate markets. Beats share would likely be even greater if you looked at headphones costing over $300 as many of their headphones are $300 and up.

I am so tired of these color remixes of beats headphones. They do these color refreshes in order to hide the fact that they have no new products to offer. It's really time to update these headphones with new features and tech.

Rarified category indeed. Please tell that to (Mass)drop. Why would they even bother making a business out of it?

Many brands have your "Beats" competitor, e.g. Sennheiser with their Momentum series. They would love to sacrifice their sound in lieu of mass sales, but thankfully these companies have some respectable opinions and are at least not sacrificing their sound over looks.

Nope. That's just you telling yourself things you don't know about the headphone industry. Buy Beats if you want to flaunt. There's more people out there that love to flaunt than people that enjoy fidelity.

You guys sound really old.

Beats cater to an entirely different market. It's for young adults, teens, kids, athletes, and anyone making a statement. Not everything has to be black, silver, and low key.

Ever watch NBA warm ups? Those guys are wearing them and the kids follow up. Have you seen Nike shoes lately?

Again, Apple knows what they're doing.

Beats obviously are not for the old grumpy people here. Guess why these are part of Apple’s back-to-school promo? And so what if they don’t sound good enough for the discriminated audio connoisseurs? Most kids listen on Spotify!
