There are other worse options that shall remain unnamed.....*cough*..Bose..*cough*

Explain how bose is a worse option especially if your wanting ANC? until recently no one has been able to give them good competition when it came to that aspect? now sound quality yeah cheaper better options are out there but when you travel and need noise cancellation especially on planes no one is better.

And who cares about those endorsements? Everybody knows they are bought.

The largest sport event in the world finished a few months ago and Hisense endorsed it. And who cares? They are thriving because they do a VA panel for half price. Uninformed consumers (the type endorsements are supposed to bring) still buy low end (and low quality) Sony, LG and Samsung TVs.

Some people will care if they see LeBron James on his spare time with "whatever" (probably Beats) headphones. But not much more.
They care. The companies. The actual subjects in our discussion. We're not discussing a consumer perspective. They obviously see an advantage to being the official brand instead of having to work around another brands official status.

The NBA is a great avenue to reach the young demographic. The NBA does a great job marketing its product and is a great partner for Apple.

Beats has crappy quality for the high price (though I have spent over 600 bucks for two pairs of Beats headphones - just because they look the best). I may need to pick up another pair for my gym.

Ladies and Gentlemen, the perfect Apple customer. It's the look that counts, not the quality. Hey, it's "crappy", but I'll buy another one.

Good Lord...

I know Beats isn't exactly Apple but buying notoriety through other celebrities (people or not) was the kind of thing Apple didn't do and didn't have to do.
What are you even talking about? Apple has used celebrities in ads since at least 1995. You just becoming aware of this doesn’t change history..

You couldn't possibly be more wrong.

Football is global culture, not JB.
[doublepost=1536175291][/doublepost]
It might not be football (aka soccer in USA) but basketball sure as hell is a global sport.

i dont argue with it being a global sport. Football is global culture.

What?o_O Where in the world is basketball not played?

Culture vs. Sport...spot the difference.

Football is global culture, not JB. sorry for being a horrible person. not sorry.

JB? What's JB?

And basketball certainly is global culture. It's not as big as soccer, but it's also a lot younger. The intersection of American hip hop culture and basketball is well known, and it probably is one of our biggest "cool" cultural exports. Beats and Dr. Dre also might have a teeny tiny connection to those things too...maybe..just a little... The connection of Beats and the NBA makes a ton of sense.

NBA themed headphones... this is one of the most unApple things Apple could ever do.

This is Beats branded, not Apple branded. And really, some special edition colors are no different than what they already do. These will just match NBA teams colors is my guess. You can bet that folks out there will what Lakers Purple and Yellow, or Bulls Black and Red, or Mavs Blue and Silver, Rockets Red and White, etc etc. I mean damn, look at the already existing Studio 3 colors. They are halfway there with most of them.

LJ sorry.

of course beats and the NBA makes sense, they have been doing it for years already.

Whether or not Beats are great headphones, this is a great move. Financially there is no down side to this at all for Apple.

Actually, featuring sport figures, especially BB stars was key to Beats getting its start. You should watch the Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine documentary and see how two music producers created a billion dollar product company.

Granted that was Beats before Apple, but this to me seems like a no-brainer move for Apple.

Bose is a worse option (IMHO). The base is super overpowering at higher volumes, and lots of bleeding into the mids and the highs are just overpowered. Balance just isn't there. The material that the cushions are made of disintegrate. The materials (plastic fitments) don't make it feel premium, yet you are paying a premium price. Battery life isn't that great. Microphone sounds muffled on the other end. And of course when you aren't on a flight, it feels like a constant air cabin pressure feeling with them on.
Bose isn't the only game in town for ANC. The Sony WH1000MX3 seem to be on the right track to surpass Bose, and I submit this iteration they may actually have succeeded. And they did it by actually listening to their customers and improving on their device in the right direction.

Bose isn't the only game in town, and certainly not the only ANC headset that can be described as quality.

I stick with my original assessment. One can do worse than Beats.....you can actually pay for a Bose headset. But to each his own.

Meh. Bass heavy, overpriced status symbols... more interested in Apple’s own efforts without the Beats branding.

Hmm.

Were do you think Apple is GAINING the experience from exactly? Beats Solo/Studio3's are actually VERY good at quality. The common genre's by players and fans of NBA, WBNA etc is Hip-Hop and Trap. This could not have been an easier deal. Maybe the deal was why Cue has been sleeping in meetings ... those NBA after parties really take a toll!

AirPods first wireless headphones based on BT with their own added tech (never had a wireless stereo product before)
MBP 2018 best laptop speakers they've ever made (they've had decades to get this good yet never did)
Upcoming Apple branded premium headphones will be studio based you'll know where they've gained the experience therein.

And for all those of you that stated $3 Billion for Beats was not worth it ... are eating your boots now and have been for years. Leather dose taste good nah?

HUGE partnership that Beats has already aligned with and making sales jumps with NBA WNBA.
Where are my La Lakers AirPods at?!

It has always been my dream to play basketball professionally. Initially, I worried that my lack of skill and even a single day of practice would pose somewhat of an obstacle, but now all I have to do to be like my heroes is buy a pair of headphones. Thanks Beats®©™! :)

Good joke but since it's falling really short of the analogy for Nike Air Jordan, and now Jordan brand Jordan fans and sneaker heads .. MANY kids still want Jordan's and aspire to play the game .. many do VERY well onto University/College Ball and making GOOD cheddar at it too.

To quote a line against our joke above ...

"hey Mike ... it's gotta be the shoes right? Gotta be the shoes"!

Err.... fake news !! :) o_Oo_O

(Funny video! :):))
I really wish people would stop using the term "fake news". It really sounds unintelligent to me. We used to call them lies, half-truths, incorrect, misleading, and lots of other great terms. Now everything is just "fake news"...

Maybe that was part of the reason why I used “fake news” in my post...?

The trouble with such branding for me is that the product is just about lifestyle. Can become "da thing" very quickly, snd become "soooo 2018.... yesteryear stuff" even quicker.
I just want the best noise cancelling headphones with good sound quality. Not to wear a lifestyle.

I know... I'm getting old.

To all the people who are complaining that Beats sound quality isn't good: Huh?

They're actually very good. Of course, it depends on the type of music you listen to, but I find them to be really good for a lot of different genres.

And no, I don't own a pair of Beats. I'm more of the AirPods type.
