In the wireless market the two standard bearers are the Bose QC 35 II and the Sony 1000xm3. Honestly, I would recommend trying 1000xm2 if you can get a good deal. They're really, really good.

No what's not?

I would put the Sennheiser momentum and Vmoda crossfade 2 ahead of both of those.

Apple trying to milk Beats, just releasing the same old models with different colors.
I don’t see what’s wrong with releasing new colors. If Apple were to release AirPods in space gray or black, would that be “milking” AirPods?

But these aren’t just different colors, they’re NBA logoed. Sports fans love team merchandise, seems like a smart move to me.

Love my Studio 3.0, the S1 chip makes pairing and switching between devices a doddle and the fit on my bald head is great. Being able to disable noise cancellation is a big improvement vs 2.0 as the fit of the cups is mostly enough to stem background noise unless I’m on a flight, where I turn nc back on.

I have a set of Sony MX1000 and b&o H9. The Sony’s are also great but I just prefer using the Studio 3 as I can switch them between my watch, phone and Apple TV effortlessly. The B&O H9 are terrible, uncomfortable to wear without a hat and way too bassy, like gen 1 beats bassy.

The Beats and Sony are much more comfortable and I wear them for hours on flights to dull the background noise.

No, beats is trying to survive because Apple is slowly abandoning beats. They're almost like an extra cash-cow for the hell of it. Soon we'll have Apple's over-the-ear headphones and Beats will vanish to their own parent company.

Beats are so damn tacky, damn. I recently got these:

Master & Dynamic MW60

Aren't they just gorgeous? The build material is perfect: only aluminium, steel and crazy soft lambskin leather. No plastic crap or pieces of metal inside to make them heavy, 'expensive' feeling.

The sound is really great too and the range is pretty awesome.
Style-wise, these fit much, much better with Apple tech.

Love 'em! :D

Your set looks cheap.

It has been ridiculous. That won't stop the kids from wanting a pair. For many, it is a status symbol, unlike the Members Only jacket I used to wear.
They aren’t really seen as a status symbol. The majority of the core Beats customer treats them as a fashion accessory. A lot of millennials and the new even younger generation aren’t as attracted to brands like Sony and Bose. I personally love Beats headphones because the sound pallet favors hip-hop and R&B music which tends to emphasize a heavy bass. I own a pair of airpods and a pair of Beats solo 3. The solo 3 has a 40 hour battery I only charge them every 2 weeks or so

They are a fashion accessory Beats has always done this even before Apple

Beats has always released multiple colors or branded version of their headphones. Beats have a very loyal customer base even beyond those who are only in the Apple eco-system. I’m actually glad to see Apple hasn’t stopped them from doing these types of things. They are treated as fashion accessories especially in black communities.

Great arguments too...

Judging from your gear list below your name, I've spent around 3x the amount. But let's not compare our possessions, it's sad, like your 6 year old MacBook Air lol.

Sennheiser Momentum (over-the-ear). Look, feel and sound fantastic.

Also a very nice choice, I considered those too but got swayed towards the Master & Dynamic purely because the design spoke more to me.

"Falling behind the competition." ??? You may not like the heavy bass sound, etc., (though the latest Studio 3's have had fairly good reviews from many hi fi headphone reviewers), but the fact is that the combination of style and sound has won the world over as Beats owns the worldwide market of head phones costing over $200, and has left the competition behind in that regard.

If the rumors are true, Apple will be releasing an Apple branded headphone to incorporate some of the latest tech and other features, but for Beats fans, again the biggest group in the world, the advanced feature set of say, for instance, the very nice Sony 1000XM3, are not what they are looking for and when you are killing the market with Beats, it makes sense to not mess with that great formula and instead go with new Apple branded line.

One last thing. Purchasing Beats was a terrific financial move by Cook. Most folks only focused on the music streaming aspect of it, which was incredibly valuable and important, but the hardware end was equally a home run as through Beats growth, Apple has become the biggest seller of wireless headsets in the entire world with another high margin product. Not bad at all Tim.

Most of the noise cancellers now have between 20-40 hours of battery and honestly, the Solo3 is overpriced for what it is.

Indeed, I'd go with the Studio 3, which has had fairly good reviews for sound on hi fi sites. As far as battery life, Bose better get out with the QC45 as they are way behind Sony and the others who hit 30 hrs. The QC 35 has also now been passed by the Sony XM3's in noise cancelling, feature set (USB-C, yeah!, 50% better battery life, arguably sound, and very close on comfort). Very excited to see if Apple enters the arena with Apple branded high end phones.

There is nothing wrong with releasing new colours (and trims), especially for products that are so highly visible. There might be something wrong for not releasing anything other than new colours (and trims) for more than two years now (the last new Beats products was the Beats X, released on 10 Feb 2017.

I'm old enough to remember, when referring to an ESPN branded mobile phone, Steve Jobs said:

“Your phone is the dumbest f * * * ing idea I have ever heard”

...and now Apple is selling NBA branded headphones.
