Might not have to wait for the next generation of hardware since the current generations all supported both Wi-fi and Bluetooth.

I just mean that it'll be announced with the next Apple Watch, like HomeKit was announced at an iPhone event but works with older devices. Every year, there's a major new feature to focus on. I think that health measuring add-ons will be the next one for Apple Watch.

An aside, I think that the next Apple Watch will have a smart connector in the strap link. A glucose monitor could be a bracelet that docks into the Watch's smart connector. Those accessories will of course only work with the new Apple Watch. Wireless accessories like a sleep monitor would work with older devices.

Clearly sleep monitoring is an amazing justification for buying two magical iWatches.

Or maybe now that Apple has finally gotten wireless charging religion, they can develop a way to attach electrodes to your body while you sleep and wirelessly charge through your skin.

Sleep tracking is a farce because you already know if you slept well or not, and these things do not improve sleep. It's not like they offer recommendations that will improve the quality of sleep other then the standard do not drink caffeine, or go to bed on time or the other usual cliches.

The idea that someone needs an app or device that measures sleep "performance" is ridiculous. If it could be used to improve sleep, sure, like step counts get people motivated more to exercise and move around that improves health, but a device or app telling you you didn't sleep well when you are struggling to get out of bed in the morning is just dumb and in many cases the "anxiety" of ensuring the device will properly report your sleep is enough to keep people restless at night.

I think in this case Apple is right in not building sleep tracking into Apple Watch. I have had sleep tracking on two products already and the result was a completely lack of any useful information other then to know what I already know, when I wake up feeling like ****, or wake up feeling great, I don't need an app to tell me the obvious.

Sleep tracking is another "smart hairbrush" kind of health device that sound cool until you waste money on them and realize they are completely useless.

Completely disagree, I was considering buying this to switch to the Apple Watch from my Fitbit because I am so attached to sleep tracking.

My partner and myself have significantly different sleep schedules and while it is generally fine I have found that analyzing my sleep quality and making decisions based on it (How late to stay up, how late to sleep, etc) make real improvement in my work day.

Hopefully Apple is making a serious sleep tracker. It’s something I miss about my old Microsoft Band 2.

Or maybe you can post your 'wit' (read whining) in some other forum? hum...

The first part could well be right, but I don't see Apple going for wired sensors.

Well, transparency at least resembles the product's significance
Wild guess: Apple from time to time decides to buy out a company for further determination what - if ever - to do with it, or not

We could also roll a dice, ride a unicorn, think about the shapes of snow flakes and also pour ourselves a cup of coffee with the intent of filling up that coffee with the best swirl possible. Crazy stuff, isn't it?

Could be the next wave of idea's to be bought by Apple.
Beddit was just the idea - that never materialised itself - probably bought just to pave the way into a pristine market (if any...)

Also, the battery life is so good that my partner actually tried to wear hers to bed and use it for sleep tracking. She would charge it for about 30-60 mins before bed. She stopped because the sleep tracking app she used was unreliable, not because of any problems with wearing the Watch to sleep.
You don't need to charge it. I personally use AutoSleep and put my watch in Airplane mode, I lose about 2-3% every night. From what I've seen, every sleep tracking app works in Airplane mode.

The whole Apple/Sleep area needs some work. For example, I'd like to buy into an apple watch sleeping app but from what I see, there isn't one that wakes you from the watch with a haptic alarm in your lightest cycle of sleep. Not even the 'pillow' app does this as there is no real-time monitoring of your sleep.

Beddit is an excellent product, albeit like many, after 4-5 months the heart rate tracker stops working. I really hope they don't put it out to pasture like many acquisitions. The beauty of the product was not needing to wear something to get data. Get in bed, and it did everything.

I had one of these... Well... 5 actually... bought 1, had it replaced 4 times, eventually given a full refund. They all stopped working. After about 2 weeks, the heart rate tracking stopped, then total failure 2 weeks later.
I purchased one in May. Actually seemed to provide some accurate information until about a month ago. In looking for support, Beddit's website says to contact Apple. Apple's Support app doesn't offer support for Beddit so I made a trip to the local Apple Store in Indianapolis. Nobody knew anything. They sent me away with a website address that was totally wrong. Pissed, I returned that afternoon and found a gal that took all my info. She wrote up a work order to replace the unit. Interesting that my heart rate monitor stopped working at first, then it was very sporadic tracking. We'll see how Apple handles this. After reading this comment, I'd rather have a refund.

Surprised to see so many reports of the device failing after 4-5 months.

I started using a Beddit device two months ago and really love it. I find the sleep data very useful in making sleep decisions (and transparency in holding me accountable for bad ones..) So far no issues with it. Love how it automatically tracks with zero effort on my part. Lay down, automatically starts tracking.

There is some solid information at resmed.com.au that goes far past these;eep tracking in this article. Information from ResMed paps are going to be important to Apple, just like BP, Pulse PulseOx, Glucose levels, etc.

Indeed. I just got upgraded from an A9 Autosense to the new A10. By the time I'm out of the shower, it has uploaded my sleep stats, and I can view them in the MyAir app, including the average number of apnea/hypopnea events per hour. My sleep quality with the A10 has definitely been better than with the A9 (which was better than the Respironics unit it replaced, and so on). I think the A10 is much better at learning your breathing rhythm than the A9 was. I don't even notice it, other than the mask and headgear of course.

Well, the Smart Connector is new tech for Apple so it's indicative of their current direction. It's as wireless as a physical connector can get.

Makes perfect sense inside the strap link. Diabetic? Get a glucose strap and slide it on. Heart condition? Get an EKG bracelet and wear that with your Watch. It's seamless. You're not really plugging in an accessory per se. You're just wearing the band that suits your specific condition or situation.

Note: there's already a port inside the link but it's currently only used for diagnostics and technician access.

It appears that Bedditt is now available on Apple's website, so they haven't killed off the product. Does anyone know if there will be a Bedditt 4 or if this will remain a legacy product?
