One thing I keep going back to with all of these departure news items is Johny isn't single-handedly the only person working on Apple's silicon. He leads a huge team. If everyone walked out, that would be scary but this is just one person of a few thousand we're talking about.

I don’t think Gurman just makes things up out of thin air. i’m curious who his source was. Obviously it was someone he had enough confidence in to go public with the rumor.

This to me is far more likely the scenario:

I wonder if the whole thing was a ploy by top brass to see who the leaker is.

Sure, it is completely out of the question that the rumor was just wrong, it came from Gurman after all, so must be true, whatever.

This is a classic "non-denial denial" used in strategic communications.

Nobody in the world would write like Srouji does. It weaves in and out without denying the rumor. A true denial would simply be "I know you've been reading all kind of rumors and speculations about my future at Apple. It's categorically false/untrue/incorrect. I've not considered leaving."
