Not really worth watching them. These guys obviously want to be prestiged by Apple. Basic stuff that everybody knows. Nobody put Craig to the test.

They should of asked him why there is no re design, split screen, interactive widgets and why iPad was just catch up from iOS 14

I don't know what you're talking about. There is split screen, there are interactive widgets, and the multitasking improvements are great.

I bet none of these youtubers asked hard hitting questions about why iPadOS is severely lacking. Probably heavy restrictions and not actually a freeform conversation.

One of the biggest issues with iPadOS was, IMHO, tackled this week.

I don't think Apple is so strict about the questions. Last year MKBHD asked Craig about why there's no Calculator on the iPad.

I also recently watched an interview with Craig again and the woman straight up asked "How's the software for the upcoming AR set going" and he replied (with a grin) "I have no idea what you're talking about"

So this probably shows that they're not aware of the questions they're going to be asked.

I don't think they screen questions, but there is an understanding that if you ask questions they're not into, you're not gonna get meaningful answers, and you risk not being permitted another interview.

It is a PR interview. They're not public figures who want to win re-election.

We don't need Apple to generate responses that don't answer the question.

Why can't iPad OS use the full amount of memory of my iPad Pro that i bought with an advertised 16GB of RAM?
Just because we can implement a feature doesn't mean it's the right decision to do so. We could make an OS that uses more resources, but think our customers are going to be surprised how well the free iPad OS update runs on their existing devices.
While the new multi-tasking UI is much easier to use, why are you locked into panels that are hard to switch? For example, a workflow where you are working with one primary app and copying/pasting from two other apps is not at all intuitive even with the new UI
There are a lot of ways to implement multitasking features, but we don't think anyone has gotten it perfect yet. Our newest OS's build on what we have learned from previous releases, and we think it will be the most intuitive OS release ever.
If iOS and iPad OS are built on the same code-base, why did it take a year for iPad OS to get iOS 14 features
While the code-base may be similar how people use the devices differ significantly. We wanted to ensure features were implemented for the device they would be used on. We know people are eager to use features they are familiar with on iPhone with their iPad, and we are excited to see what amazing things developers create with the new OS tools.
Why still no iPad calculator?
At Apple we constantly ask ourselves, what can we add to this market? If we can't do better than what already exists then we don't release anything. Right now there are a lot of really well-designed iPad OS calculator apps.
Why can't I safely eject an external disk from an iPad, a basic function that has been on a Mac for 40 years
The concept of the computer has changed a lot since the iPad first launched.
Why is Thunderbolt disk access on the iPad Pro half the speed of the access from a MacBook with the same chip/port on the same disk? Why do some thunderbolt disks not work at all?
Thunderbolt is a magical technology that for many is the evolution of what USB hoped to accomplish. We work with hundreds of hardware partners to build devices that work best with Apple hardware. Compared to other protocols Thunderbolt is still relatively bleeding edge, and as a result hardware manufacturers are still learning how to get the most out of their products. We believe Thunderbolt is a gamechanger and are proud it's currently available on so many Apple Devices.

Maybe something is wrong if you need to sell an OS update - the OS update should sell itself. Granted, most people upgrade without thinking about it, but this kind of outreach demonstrates their own insecurity/hidden truth that this iOS update is pretty meh.
I don't think the interviews imply there is something wrong with the software. Apple has been doing interviews for years. This is an excellent way to get free publicity for Apple and at the same time, possibly gain new Apple users.

Bit of a shame nobody asked any decent hardhitting questions then.
If you look at all these videos, it's Apple that recorded the interview with some special Facetime software (or maybe thats what Facetime in Monterery looks like, no clue). There's a "ME" icon under Craig so I suppose they had the upper hand there.

Perhaps somebody should have asked him the following…

1: Why are you purposely restricting some features in Monterey for people still on Intel machines. I know somebody who has spent £30k only months ago on a Mac Pro for work. What possible reason could there be to restrict? The Mac Pro processors and gpus are more than powerful to do what the Apple silicon can for them features.
2: Why do they keep quoting the line “we just want to build the best things” when they don’t allow an Apple Watch to sync with an iPad or Mac so people that don’t use a phone very much, can still have a cellular watch.

3: Why do they charge such obscene amounts of money for ram? They don’t allow people to add it themselves on Apple silicon. Blatantly ripping people off by putting in 8GB, when they know most will want more, is just a crap move.
4: Why are we still stuck with low res webcams? There is not a single excuse for doing this apart from cheaping out and maximising profit. They could easily put an iPhone 12 Pro Max front facing camera in and I bet it wouldn’t cost that much more money due to economies of scale as they must buy millions of them for the phones.
5: Why do they keep on bringing a new operating system for the Mac, phone, iPad, tv etc every year? Just in the music industry alone, I know lots of producers that are on 3/4yr old os’s as plugins take a long time to update. Catalina was an abomination for compatibility. Big sur hasn’t been much better. Just change to every 2yrs and give people a chance to actually enjoy the new os.

If anyone suddenly became an Apple user because of these interviews, they could possibly be the most gullible people on the planet.

These guys are like iJustine SE. It is nice that Apple is giving them this exposure to help them with their channel. These guys do good work and glad to see them get this interview chance.

Did anyone notice Federighi had to push the AirPods Pro in a couple times? Would really bug me to have to do that all the time.

Not surprised MKBHD did not get an interview. He had a good video on Apple and right to repair. I don’t know any of the YouTubers in this article.

All less than a million subscribers, I think it makes them more careful with their questions.

I think it's more of not knowing the history of MacOS that puts them at a disadvantage. I'm guessing most of these YouTubers haven't been around for more than 5 WWDC's.

Spot on! Context matters. And nice that Federighi spent some time with casual/not-well-known YouTube hosts.

Funny seeing some here believe the above casual YouTube hosts should be adopting a Mike Wallace hard-hitting approach to interviewing an adversary intent on hiding some kind of illegal behavior, slinging what they perceive are aspects about how iOS (in their opinion) is severely lacking, trying to snare Federighi in a gotcha moment.

Yeah, that's going to work out really well.

No surprises on the questions as they know they want to keep getting those hand outs

Still Craig is awesome though

I wasn't familiar with any of them, are they apple related tech youtubers or just some popular youtubers that Apple thought they could get fluff pieces out of by inviting them to talk to someone so important and getting them star struck at the opportunity?

Pretty much. I keep seeing people mentioning mkhbhd or something. Never heard of this guy. Couldn’t find anything written by him. So had to force myself to watch YouTube of all things for a few minutes. I don’t get it. Looks like a kid. Has no professional experience. Why would anyone take this guy, his idiot reviews or his thoughts seriously? He’s clueless. It’s a sad state to see anyone following these idiots on YouTube.
