Thanks for making my point. This guy didn’t deliver and now he’s gone so I care about that part.

I know Apple doesn’t give a crap about me. Only my money. Is that a surprise?

Does this guy work on Siri? Do you know how software engineering is done? Do you know how APIs work?

The last I heard, John Giannandrea is the chief of Siri.

Tim Cook is not the Director of Machine Learning. He’s a business man. Tim Cook told him to get back to work and he left instead so I applaud Tim Cook. Maybe Tim Cook wanted him back in work because of the garbage he oversaw.

Goodfellow is not the head of Siri.

The CEO is responsible for everything. If something doesn't work, then it's his job to get it fixed. The buck stops with the CEO.

So what? Do you understand how APIs work?
Again, I don’t know and I don’t care. I’m a consumer that wants his devices working as advertised.

Machine Learning is integrated in Siri. They can fire or let them all walk for all I care. The product I paid for is awful and that’s my only concern. It needs to be fixed.

About 50% of office workers feel the same way as this guy.

This guy left for a number of reasons. The biggest was RTO.

It's a big issue.
Was never an issue before the pandemic. People got comfortable. They should’ve known at some point that they’d be back. They were hired to work in the office, not from home.

If you don't like it, please go buy an Android phone. Life is too short to be unhappy with your phone.

Preferences change.

There's currently a labor shortage so they have leverage right now.

Companies that provide the perks that employees want will get the better pick in employees.

They suck too.

Well, get the one that sucks less.

I don't use voice assistants. If I need help, I just call my assistant on the phone for help.

There was a service that did this in the past. You paid a certain amount per month and you could call up a number and asked for help like looking something up over the internet, make an appointment for you, etc. It's nice to have a real person.

That’s exactly what I did but this Apple stuff has gotten worse over the past couple years. Coincidence? I’m not about to trash and spend on thousands of dollars worth of electronics to play trial and error.

People quit for things that are important to them. Everyone has different needs. If you enjoy working in the office, continue to do so. For many, work from home improved their overall quality of life.
Apple's main concern is not the quality of your life. You don't want to work at the office? Okay--there are plenty of people who will take that Apple $$$ and be happy to work in Cupertino.

Umm, does Siri not use machine learning?

A lot of iOS 15 has been garbage. Does that make you feel better?

I don't even know where to start... But the 10,000 ft answer is:

Some features of Siri use ML, just like some features of Face ID, Touch ID, Spotlight, etc.

ML ranges from least squares to GANs.

That's why it's so silly to say "hur durr, Siri no work! So ML employee sucked".

Goodfellow is the brain behind https://this-person-does-not-exist.com/en

Machine Learning has way more applications than trivial virtual assistants. For whatever reason (and I'm not sure why), I just assumed the audience of MacRumors would know these things.
