Its also fun to see that its the first black bezel, with a glass surface back in 2002.

here comes again the dream of a 12" full-scale iMacPad with full OSX.

technically a MBA with a touchscreen on top. that would sell like hot cake.

That Apple had designed something 6-8 years before it came out suggests Jobs has given Cook a ton of stuff to develop over the next 6-8 years.

Hopefully.

An A4 sized tablet would be perfect for magazine viewing.
An A4 sized screen would be 14.3" diagonally and to have the same PPI (264) as the iPad 3 the resolution will be roughly 3086 x 2182, more than 2 times the pixels of the iPad 3

So does anyone know when the first Mod Book Pro devices shipped? I'm guessing maybe a little after this time perhaps? Either that's one thick iPad!

Theres one thing that this prototype iPad has over the new one. Plastic back!
:apple:

I agree with others who have said this - I'd love to see Apple go up in size with the iPad, as well as going down in size. There are instances where having a smaller form factor and a bigger form factor could be beneficial.

Of course making anything bigger adds weight and the requirement for more processing power, which forces the need for bigger batteries, which further drives weight up. It will take some major tech advances to make this possible - just like the tech advances required to make the iPad we see today possible.

It goes to show you that Apple learned its lesson from the Newton.

All great ideas need to wait for the right time. The 2004 iTab would have been too big, too costly, too heavy ...just like the Newton.

I'm glad they waited.

Now let's put out that 12" iPad Apple!

Pretty sure that prototype ran OSX

Why so? The way hardware gets better and smaller every year, I think they probably made it to test/develop software - and run iOS. Knowing that they would only launch the iPad 6 to 8 years later, Apple should have been aware that hardware would look totally different by the time of the launch.

I'd say software would have been the really interesting thing to Apple at the time.

I find it interesting that they did experiment with a thinner bezel.

I remember thinking how ugly that wide bezel was, when the original iPad was introduced but now that I own an iPad, and see that Apple made the decision to widen it, it makes complete sense.

Well I'd hardly consider it fair, given it's weight and girth, you weren't likely to be holding it up in one hand. You'd have to crux it in your to work with it, preventing the need to grip the device like you can with the current ipad, thus eliminating the need for a wide bezel.

I don't like the rumor of an iPad Mini but if this was a rumur I would kind of be happy. LOL

It really just looks like Apple took the screen of it White MacBook.. Awk

Hit the gym ya wimp. Jk

This prototype must weigh 5 pounds or more. If someone came out with a 5 pound wrist watch no one would want it no matter how much they "hit the gym". iPad is a similar thing. You could be holding it for hours. So the lighter the better. 1 pound would be amazing but probably not possible with today's battery technology.
