I have been pleased with most of Apple's products but one thing they really suck at is in sound. I don't think they are passionate about it.

I've never managed to use any of the old earbuds that came with my previous iDevices as they just don't fit in my ears properly and are uncomforable and fall out all the time...

Hopefully the earpods will be a better fit but I doubt they'll replace my current Sennheiser in ear buds...

Always nice to have a backup but I have no doubt they won't beat my Denon over-ears or Shure earplugs.

Well yeah, they get wet, you are screwed. You have spend another $30 with Apple to replace the.

No you don't. You switch to Canadian Air earbuds. I have a pair of those free things... so much better than the high-end overpriced earbuds.

You should look in to getting a custom pair of IEMs. If you have someone mold them to your inner ear, they should almost certainly sound a lot better and help with the really deep, fast lows in Metal.

But how much would that cost? My price range was ~$100 and I don't think I'll ever invest much more than that into headphones.

Paper's actually a very good speaker cone material. Light, cheap, stiff and self-damping. It's better than plastic.

I design speakers that use aluminium drivers and they're a bitch at times due to break up characteristics - the only real advantages over paper are consistency (paper can be variable) and the fact you can use it as a heat-sink for the coil, other than that I'd use paper.

Don't agree

Polyurethane is better and not much more money.

Better than that is Kevlar which are like my speakers at home. B&w

Paper will wear out faster than plastic and is prone to moisture and tearing.

Sorry to break it to you but apple cheaped out

My concern is comfort, I never can find anything that I can wear for longer periods of time. Sounds like these might be a good fit.

Is it too sexual that I like it to put something in my ear the Jonathan Ive has designed?

yes, especially since your name here is sinisterman :D

I think the redesign was done more for wearability not so much sound improvement since the price point is the same as the old one. An actual review is needed to see how comfortable these really are.

These are still the most uncomfortable buds on the market. Why cant they engineer something with a better and less painful fit.

You need to ask iFixIt.
So with all those guts I guess they sound better but will they kill our ears like the old ones? I think that is a common complaint.

Do users REALLY have a problem adjusting the sound intensity on their headsets?

Yes but will it survive a go in the washing machine ????

If you need to clean your headset, you can use a damp cloth and wipe the surfaces and cords. Cleaning in a washing machine is NOT advisable for any headset.

No, but they have a problem with buds jammed into their ears.

You've tried them? Cool, is the sound quality good?

The important question is: how is the sound quality on those things? I can't wait for a real audiophile to do a test on them.

An audiophile would probably upgrade them from "straight to the trash" to "I guess I can stick it in the drawer and if they're the last pair of earbuds on Earth I'll use them"

Ummm... Paper Cones = Cheap?

No.

The longest running industry standard studio reference monitor speakers used in every major studio and production facility in the world have paper cones. Most of you have seen them on TV shows or movies.

I own 2 pairs, and they beat the snot out of the other cones that cost over 10 times as much....

There are real world and scientifically proven reasons why paper cones offer a more realistic solution when replicating sound, which is the goal...

Most main stage PA systems run paper cones... for your favorite musicians.... u think they are cheap or sound bad? As if the major labels and venues are too stupid to buy synthetic cones? No.

Also, in many cases, paper cones are more expensive.

Haven't heard these EarPods yet... mine are on their way...
but I take no issue with paper cones... in fact, I much prefer them

As far as complaining about a $30 pair of earbuds due to their quality???
HAHAHAHAHHAAAAAA. No SHISH ! ! ! DUH.
No earbud is going to be able to cut actual mustard. NONE
That small a single driver speaker cannot replicate sound properly...
particularly when jammed inside your ear

Certainly not something an audiophile takes seriously

people actually waste money on these things and buy them separately when there are much better alternatives out there?

And they'll suck and I'll never use them like all the other ones included with the i products.

those negative reviews on the earpods... meh.
if its better than the previous one, its good enough for me.

Exactly! I'm sure they've made sound improvements to them, but folks have to remember these are $30 earphones, not $100+ earphones. In audio quality, you get what you pay for. And also, Apple is bundling these with all iPods/iPhones, etc, so they must remain fair inexpensive to make, so that the iDevice prices aren't driven up. And some people never use the bundled earphones [i opened my iPhone 4 CDMA box up yesterday and still have the earbuds that were bundled with it wrapped up - i've never plugged headphones into my iPhone 4 since I got it on Verizon day 1! only been plugged into external speakers/car using the headphone jack].

I will not want to read a review on these things-- even from head-fi itself. I only trust a select few specific people on such subjective things. I'd gladly take the older apple buds over many other cheap offerings though, they actually don't sound bad if you can get past their lack of low end.

Really?

$29 vs. Bose

That is like comparing BMW 528i to a base model Ford Focus.

Try a realistic comparison. Perhaps, $40 Skullcandy set to these. Or the Phillips latest buds.

Lol yeah I figured that... I have the bose mei2's. Just looking for a conversation on headphones.

Grappling hooks for your ears.

These things stay put when running. They seem to be designed so that when they are tugged downward (like from your shirt or getting caught on your hand) they lock into your ears. The harder you pull, the more they lock in place. With the old style earbuds, they would fall out at least a dozen times when on a run and that's even with black fuzzy covers on them. These new ones didn't fall out once on a two mile run. YAY! :)
