So is this news official and apple have lost the case?

In terms of products I like samsung and google just as much as apple so this news is good for me and consumers like me.

However i really, really find it hard to believe apple , with there huge amount of talented lawyers, would make such an amateur mistake/cheap move.

So i ask again, is this official news or another crap mac rumour which people hype on and make out that it is fact?

Ridiculous case gets even more absurd.

Free the Galaxy Tab!

The Transformer is a better tablet than the Galaxy Tab anyway ;)

The filing with the wrong image is not a rumor.

I bought an iPad because the official website says it has a widescreen.
http://www.apple.com/ipad/specs/
I want to watch 720p/1080p native format videos without large black areas at the top/bottom of the display.

But they are LYING! How can a 4:3 screen be called widescreen?
If 4:3 is a widescreen, what is not? a 1:1 screen?

I want a refund because of it, is that possible?:D

Depending on law, yes. It is a false claim, and if you are able to convince the deciding part that you bought the device primarily for this feature then yes, you should be allowed to make the deal void.

4:3 is certainly not widescreen by any standard. Widescreen is not necessarily a protected term though. Like i said, depending on law (and thus where you live).

p.s.

dont watch hd on devices that does not have hd as its native resolution.

The idea of a tablet has been around since the 90's. Perhaps this company should sue Apple and Samsung!! lol

Earlier, in fact. The guys (and gals) at Xerox parc (where else?), and perhaps most notably Mark Weiser, had the pad concept nailed in the late 80's -- along with the Tab (anything from a badge to a palm-sized device, e.g. an iphone), and the Boards (well get there soon enough. MSFT is doing cool research on new conceptions of it, and screen-tech is moving somewhat fast as is).

pad (lo-fi) prototype/concept.

In fact, Apple is pretty much following Weisers prediction from start to finish, showing what a brilliant **** he was.

p.s.

Truth be told Weiser was either to ahead of his time or a bit wrong with regards to his pad-concept. He envisioned pads as something that we don't carry with us (as they were abundant), a device (unlike portable computers) not following its owner so to speak.

Based on your illustration, Apple is innocent since that drawing does NOT have rounded corners nor does it show a bezel. ;)

Probably because they were focusing on the 28 pages of actual information.

You don't need to evaluate all the evidence to form a cogent argument. Those twenty-eight pages are rendered meaningless by the single questionable image, therefore all other evidence, no matter how factual, should be ignored.

Apple is envious and bitter that they were out-innovated by Samsung.

The mistake is "official" in that it is true. The image in the court filling presents wrong information to the court. However, an online article on a website is not a court issued decision and thus Apple have not lost the case.

We'll see how this develops further on the 25th when there's a hearing in this case (if it's not delayed).

I'm certainly starting to believe it. Remember Ghandi ?

“First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.”

Back in 2008 when Android came out, Apple basically ignored it completely. Then after some mild success, Steve & co. made kwips about them during Keynotes. Now we're at the fighting part, where Apple is trying their darndest to keep the Android stuff off the shelves using the courts of law instead of simply being the best product out there (something that has me baffled seeing how well the iPad sells vs these tablets).

Go to the Amazon link and look at the image where it is shown in a hand. No logo.

just like what appears in all of Samsung's marketing materials.
Nope.
I will just respond with the link I provided: http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/galaxy-tab

Why should we assume Apple photo shopped the images when it appears Samsung does not know if the items have a samsung logo?
Doesn't matter what the US-site shows, the lawsuits/injunctions/whatever were filed in the Netherlands and Germany.
---

The best (depending on your point of view) thing about all this is that Samsung gets more attention towards their tablets than they probably ever thought they'd get. And (almost) for free. :D:apple:

Well - I guess valid. Because right now - some layman are no doubt skimming headlines and only seeing that Apple and Samsung's tablets are "the same" LOL

It's a well known fact that the US sold Galaxy Tab 10.1 is different from the model being sold elsewhere. Samsung has said as much in the Australia case and it stands to reason it's the same in Germany.

So pointing out the US Samsung site and images is a big mistake waiting to happen in a court of law outside the US where the US version will never be available at retail.

A fact wovel seems to ignore in his bid to make it seem like Apple is in the right here. I wonder if he's just ignorant of this tidbits or if he's pushing an agenda here...

I can 't think that putting HC on a tablet is inovative..I like android on my phone but on a tablet I think i'd prefer iOS..

My phone is for fun and I play with it, the tablet would have to be able to work..I just don't see that in HC

I see a bezel, but yeah. Apple invented the round corner, and filled the device with Magic, so they are home free!

That's your opinion. Now others might want Honeycomb on their tablets (at this point, it offers many great features not found in iOS). Should they be prevented to do so because Apple thinks they own the rectangle with rounded corners ?

Let the market decide which tablet is best. Apple should be concentrating on making the iPad and iOS the best darn tablet out there instead of concentrating on preventing other tablets to be sold.

If anything kills the tablet as a form factor, it might be shenanigans like these. I for one don't believe in the tablet form factor at all. I don't think that is what is making the iPad successful. It's all in the limited OS. People want such a thing (heck, I know I'd move my step dad to such a thing, he just does web and e-mail, he doesn't need Windows, especially since he seems to have a knack for breaking it by running anything he receives via e-mail).

I thought the most interesting post here was the pre ipad tablets and the post ipad tablets...

The reason I would call HC less productive is the range of productivity apps isn't there yet..

I would love to see the open source community take tablets as their collective child. I would seem they ought to be able to given google's money. Look what Canonical did for Linux, they made it "beautiful" and approachable.

Now maybe with the moto purchase we can see what Android can be..

Do you really believe this?

It's not a matter of belief. It's a fact that I've formulated from observing Apple's recent attempts at reality distortion.

They're crying foul that Samsung copied the iPad. Nonsense. I understand that Apple hoped to usher in a new era of tablet computing and what they gave us was a half-baked piece of aluminum-and-glass crap. Ooh, so innovative. Please.

Samsung saw the iPad and decided to release the Galaxy Tab not because they wanted to copy the iPad but to correct the iPad's fundamental flaws. The Galaxy Tab is what the iPad wishes it could be and Apple knows this. They're speechless.

If Apple really is an innovative company they would release a tablet that is at least on par with the Galaxy Tab. Instead they're litigating—supposedly—to protect their IP. Yeah, sure, okay, whatever.

Fact: this recent escapade is Apple grasping at straws.

This is mere speculation on my part but even though I'd like to jump on that "see, I knew that Apple company was corrupt" bandwagon, I find it hard to believe that they'd make such a mistake of confusing the aspect ratios amongst other things between the 2 products. It would be like a professional racing team where the pit crew forgot to bring spare tires with them, I guess it could happen but what are the chances...

Maybe there's another goal to the intent (again mere speculation), is that Apple may have wanted to disrupt the rhythm of Samsung's product debut in that region. The impact on the sales of the Galaxy Tab would have already damaged their sales, think about what would happen if the sales debut delay of the iPad 4 were halted for a week, a month, etc.

Apple can afford to eat penalties, after all they're many billion dollars strong. As you can tell from the responses to this thread alone, even if Apple was found, for example guilty of doctoring images, there'd still be people who'd look at Apple no differently than how they did before.

Mighty Microsoft tried to pull a few fast ones back in the day, got caught and had to pay big bucks as a result. Many companies and end users still go to Microsoft for their needs.

Even a PC-user like me will continue to look at Apple no differently, I'll continue to buy Apple products as long as they maintain the quality for which they're known for. Even if it was slimy for Apple to do so, that problem needs to be worked out between Samsung and the courts.

The reason I would call HC less productive is the range of productivity apps isn't there yet..

That's not a fault of the OS though now is it ? Nor should that permit Apple to pull stunts like we're seeing here. Let the product stand on its own merit.

Anyway, the tablet form factor is just atrocious for productivity. But what productivity apps are missing from Android ? Remember, Google is a webapps company and a lot of the Android stuff is available through Google's own range of webapps, not native apps per say.

Look what Canonical did for Linux, they made it "beautiful" and approachable.

They did ? Canonical just shipped a standard Gnome with a brown theme.

If anything, Linux was already "beautiful" (why do people insist on using such words to describe software and GUIs and electronics anyhow ?), it just wasn't well marketed (because frankly, the OSS community don't care about broad acceptance, OSS devs are mostly scratching their own itches).

It's amazing that people are willing to cut each other's throats, defending companies that could care less about their "defenders".
