Apple's FineWoven Cases for iPhone 15 Continue to Be Heavily Criticized

I can only speculate about the reasoning, but you have the facts correct and it’s annoying that everyone just brushes over this. The notch on the 14 was BIGGER in the dimension that matters, in that it protruded farther into the screen. Then Dynamic Island seems to have gone down even further. No useful real estate was gained, and useful real estate was lost.
Look on the bright side: because these are “earth friendly”, no one’s karma will be affected when these all end up at the landfill after 3 months.
I’d like to see Apple make fabric wrapped cases using other materials, like cotton twill or even wool, even if it increases their carbon footprint. Making phone cases definitely offers better material usage / reduced trim waste, compared to producing clothes, so there are benefits compared to typical fabric uses. Back in the day, I made a fully wrapped case using an old pair of jeans, which looked and felt great in hand, although a bit thicker than it needed to be.
Felt it in store yesterday - This FineWoven is no leather replacement and is not worth the price.

Agreed. I’ve seen probably several hundred comments about how terrible it is and I’ve only seen a few actually say they bought it and are returning. Like anything, some will like it and some will hate it. I like mine so far. I did like the leather but only the old ones. The 12 series and later were awful and didn’t wear in a patina, they just got nasty and/or peeled.
Apple's response will be to start bundling the case with a polishing cloth. LOL
I find the phones hard to use without a case. The screen is so close to the edge of the phone that it’s hard for me to type at the outsides of the keyboard. Plus, the added drop and crack risk. I do agree about the beauty but unfortunately I need a case.
Just got my 15 Pro today and threw a Finewoven case on it…it doesn’t even fit snug. Weird to describe, but there’s a small gap depthwise where the top of the phone opposite the camera doesn’t sit flush against the case. I can pinch the phone and case together and feel them sort of “click” together, then they split apart when I let go. The case lip also fully locks around the screen edge so it’s definitely in all the way. Wife’s 15 Finewoven case fits like a glove.
Seems to track with the other weird sporadic QC issues, on top of already being meh quality. I like to go naked phone most of the time and keep a decent case on hand situationally, looks like it won’t be this one.

I thumbs-downed your comment because you said you liked the case and then proceeded to detail what trash quality it is (the buttons and port opening). Sounds like there are lots of quality issues with case. Maybe you like some aspects of the case, but that would be the better thing to write, then.

I don’t think you should need to go to the trouble of getting another replacement, we’re in agreement.
I don’t agree with the idea that it can be a likable case in general while needing to be replaced multiple times. So I used the“dislike” button. Don’t take it personally.
Vision Pro hasn't been released yet, so it's understandable that they didn't see it.
Ok that Stephen Hackett post is pretty lame. I mean he’s seriously writing a blog post because half a screw on the bottom of his phone is showing through the phone case? He considers that newsworthy? As far as the ‘scratches‘ on the cases in the Apple store it seems pretty clear people are intentionally going into Apple stores and scratching the cases. No way would you see that just from someone picking up the case and holding it.
Beacuse people don’t go on Twitter, Reddit etc. to rave about things. The ones who have no problems and are perfectly happy with their products just get on with their lives. They don’t go posting about it on social media.
Because what you see on social media isn’t always representative of the public at large?
Not sure I follow your response to my post... I was simply saying that the hatred for these cases isn't just found on MacRumors. The hate for FineWoven can be found everywhere.
I completely understand that those who have nothing to share or point out won't be posting anything on these community boards or social media.
It's weird they're justifying the extra complaints by saying it's the "premium" offering but it's the same price as the silicone. It's just a different option, it's not any more premium nor should you expect it to be.
Personally, I'm not having any issues with mine. The cutouts are slightly offset but idgaf, they don't block the cable or the speaker/mic grills.
Even if it gets "scratched" it will still be infinitely better than the last few years of garbage tier leather cases that have the outer layer peeling off in less than a month. Those actually were priced as premium and they were definitely not premium in quality.
I'm just grateful to have a first party option that isn't silicone. I have a pet, and pet fur gets on those silicone cases and is just a huge pain in the ass to get off, then you can feel it, sliding/rolling under you fingers... I hate it. I'd much rather have any of the supposed downsides of this material. We'll see how it looks in a year or so, but, I very much doubt I will care at all about the rub marks and scratches. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if it works out like patina on leather, albeit taking more time for it to form up.

My contribution — went to an Apple Store today to return something, and took a quick look at the demo FineWoven cases. Definitely some wear showing already.

Returned mine after 2 days on Sunday. I had already stained it accidentally. Entirely too fragile.
On an old reliable Apple silicone case now. Very pleased with it.

Cheap back cover glass on the iPhone 15 Pro Max, cheap woven case. Apple is now starting to ship junk 🗑️.
Just ordered an Apple leather case on Woot for my 14PM for $35. Sometimes it's nice to have an 'old' phone.
