Apple really dropped the ball if they can't even get the Plus out on time.

Inexcusable.
I don't want to think of what is going to happen for next years iPhone launch. The expectation and excitement for a significant release. Even Apple initially lowered its orders for iPhone 7 and then increased after the Note 7 mishap.

It's embarrassing to launch a product and not have any stock.
Apple did not have "courage" for this release.

Since they all bought two phones, I take it that they're scalpers.

With that being said, what a waste of time. Order online and you still get a phone. *gasp*

These "I'm first in line!" dopes are the problem.
Apple won't make real tech if all they see are these mouth breathers being attracted to the shiny objects.

I would've waited in line for a 7, and then been like "dang, yeah I wanted a 7 Plus but this is cool I guess" and take the $100 gift card lol

People didn't get their first choice made a compromize. Let that be a lesson in life. If you make enough compromizes, you aren't living your own life story but instead just following orders. These customers need to learn the power of the word "NO" or grasp the concept of waiting a few weeks to get their desired model or color. No one gives a ---- whether you got a first iPhone.

No chance that I would settle for another product if the store didn't have the one that I wanted.

Couldn't agree more.

At some point you can only produce so many widgets with the available time and resources. You then have to allocate various models to each launch country to please as many customers as possible. There will always be problems at this scale of production and level of demand which is massive. I think they do a pretty job.

So, this is how it is .... Walk in and expect something, but as a curiosity Apple gives u a gift voucher...

Personally, i would have even turned the gift voucher down... i didn't want a gift voucher, i wanted this model phone.

Sure,, people would be cheesed off, but i don't see how a gift voucher would ease the pain for something else to get, particularly when that not want u went there for.

I would buy whatever iPhone 7 model in stock, accept the $100 gift card and then return the unopened iPhone and buy the model I wanted by applying the gift card towards it.

What about if Apple went into production four weeks earlier or eight weeks earlier or twelve? This is a result of poor planning. This is why no first week sales figures are being released. Apple had totally messed up production and distribution on this occasion.

Must have had some serious issues holding back 7+ production, this is bad.

Don't get why people still camp out at the store when they can order it online. Or geez wait a couple of weeks and get the one you want without any shortage issues.

Grumpy person tells people congregating to get off his lawn and stay away from his store. News at 11.

I'm with MR....on this..

You would know the Apple store would be flooded, so go to other retailers which have stock... Chances are u'd probably have saved time, and kept your cool

Funny how Apple's website shows iPhones running the "I Am Rich" app:
IAmRichApp.png

Ironic that they removed that app eight year ago... :)

People are buying the new iPhone due to initial excitement. "Instant Gratification" there is quite a percentage that will return, upgrade/downgrade and cancel an iPhone order. Apple knows this, every company has its return statistics ratio. This is how companies do not get stuck with excess stock and the expensive to shuffle it around. Companies do not make money with certain models, colours or sizes sitting on the shelf.

Apple is profitable due to the illusion of scarcity and it markets it well with all the media attention. Marketing first Technology second.

Could be or could be those wonderful student loans being put to good use ;) lol!

We don't have student loans in Australia like the US does. University is paid for by the government here and you pay back the debt only when you earn above a certain threshold (around $52k/yr). They they just keep 4% of your tax return each year until it's paid off.

Also, it's Exam time for most universities last week/this week. If they had time to wait in line, chances are they aren't students.

I'm going with rich kids.

So they didn't get the phone they really wanted? Seems like a waste of time other then 15 seconds of fame.
yet they bought 2 phones EACH and they are students...

Did the article say "Australian Students" or just "Students." Maybe from another part of the world just on vacation.
