I'm pretty certain all speakers are vibration based.
So much cynicism packed into one paragraph lol. I for one have been waiting for waterproof iPads, especially the Mini.
I'll present my weird use case- TV/Youtube in the tub!
I honestly switched to the Galaxy tablets a few years back for it (2023 S9 introduced waterproofing) after using an iPad since launch and wouldn't look back. Im actually very interested that Apple seems to want to introduce it.

I hope the screen brightness is 1000 nits. That’s a weakness on the mini I find it too din when used in the car during the day.
Okay Apple, you got me. Guess I will day 1 upgrade. I just bought a Mini 7 too for $389. The water resistance is mandatory cause my Mini gets almost equal travel time as my iPhone.

For anyone puzzled, they are possibly doing this to skirt around the easy battery swap regulations in EU btw, as water resistance can be used as a reason to not implement it.

Needs to come to the Pro lineup too. Also it needs to be honored by the warranty and have Siri in Polish

I wonder why they didn't go the regular route of creating gaskets and seals for IPX certification.
This is good. Not gonna lie, there have been a couple of occasions when I brought my iPad to the shower, and propped up it on the shower door's frame, when my phone wasn't available. You see, I can't shower without YouTube. If that happens, my mind starts getting real introspective and I like to do that on my own terms.
Now I just hope iPad Mini stays the same size so it can fit my gen 5 or 6's (don't remember which) folio case while slimming down bezels.

Still doesn't change the fact, I bet the market for a water proof iPad is tiny. What will be very interesting is what the do with the iPad Pro range...

They are only doing this to keep people from being able to easily swap out the batteries themselves which would dig into their margins and profits.

I know it is hard to believe, but there are people and businesses that buy these for professional use, such as restaurants or construction companies. Those users have needed waterproof iPads for ages.
Being water resistant is much more useful.
