You're not sure why we're discussing things that could affect everyone? The last thing I want to see is Apple trying to push crap like Java and Flash back onto the Web.

And hiring one guy would do that? He's not CEO...

...

I stopped watching at the latest flash on a CD-ROM lol, he got rid of those too

From what we've read, Steve Jobs was also terrible to work with. But the guy knew where he was going and he was the boss.

Trying to push the blame for bad data on a programmer like Scott Forstall is just insane. The guy seemed to know his stuff, the only problem was his leadership, as far as we know. Just pushing him back to a lower position could have been enough. Maps was rushed to remove Google Maps from iOS, too.

Yes, I am sure Apple hired him just for that purpose.

Flash is not bad, it's just not for mobile devices (for some reason)...

So there's no real reason to have Flash on mobile devices, especially if it runs poorly.

That''s the one biggest problem with Flash. It's only ever been good on Windows, and half-assed everywhere else.

I've never had a problem with it myself, and I find people who seem to get all indignant and angry about it every time it comes up pretty ridiculous. But if Adobe wasn't willing to spend the time to make it run well everywhere, then it needed to be replaced with something that did. Simple as that.

Remember, Wernher von Braun was a nazi... What do you guys think of him now?

This is NOT an example of Godwin's Law... I've check with my legal department...

Bring Scott back to do what? Take iOS backwards? Release another half baked product like maps and passbook?

Scott and his team created iOS in the first place. If not him we'd probably using something like click wheel iPods right now.

It's like the old sports cliche' around what players to draft or who to trade:

"If you listen to the fans, you'll end up being one."

And Apple's mistakes continue. It's sad to see a once great company start to falter. Sigh, i think its time to sell my Apple stock. This horse is dying.

I would expect any Adobe manager to defend Flash while they are working at Adobe, and to say nothing bad about it to the public when they move to another company. Anything else would be totally unprofessional and nobody in their right mind would hire him.

What this manager thinks about Flash, what he says about it behind closed doors (both at Adobe and Apple), and what we think about it, that's something totally different.

he will be looking into bringing trhe Adobe Suite to iOS

That would be kind of difficult for him, since he doesn't work at Adobe anymore and has zero say in the matter.

Forstall wasn't a programmer. He was a project manager responsible for the "Maps" project. When a project depends on software and data, the project manager is responsible for software _and_ data. There was likely someone a level lower who was responsible for the software only, and hopefully someone responsible for the data only. The first in is blameless, the second one might have copies of a dozen emails telling Forstall "the data we've got is no good, we need more time".

I think we can't say Scott Forstall is the only culprit of the Maps fiasco. It was the time when Apple was removing all things related with Google (Maps, YouTube… even Safari in OS X now doesn't even include the Google bookmark by default). Launching the half-baked Maps may not (or may) be his decision.

All I mean is, it seems that this Flash guy isn't as good as Scott if Apple had to choose one.

As a leader you are responsible for the actions and decisions of your subordinates. Forstall didn't step up in this regard. In his former role he is the only "culprit" that matters as he is the one that gave it thumbs up or down.

Excellent post.

How do you know it's a mistake? Do you know what he's doing at Apple? Do you know what he's worked on yet or will work on? I guess you can see into the future and tell already that he failed at something that will tank Apple.

Stop posting ridiculous comments.

Flash is not bad, .

Yes, Flash IS bad. It uses at least 100% more CPU resources on my iMac than HTML5 does. Not to mention it's usually the culprit when my iMac crashes. It's bad because it's inefficient, buggy, and poorly programmed.

Big difference....you can be a prick when 1.) you're the boss and 2.) you have the respect of everyone else. Neither applied in Forstall's case.

No way in hades does a senior executive take a step back to a production role for the good of everyone else.....especially when we're talking about an ego like he has.

And nobody was trying to push blame. Tim Cook signed the dang letter. They just wanted Forstall on there too because he was the head of iOS and was the one that gave the keynote showing it working much smoother than it did in actual real world settings. Him doing a mea culpa on it should not have been as much of an attempt at extraction as it apparently was.

You do realize that just because he used to work at Adobe doesn't mean he can pick up the Flash source code and just start using it where ever he works next, right?

Maybe not but seeing as Forstall reportedly didn't get along any of the other Apple SVPs not sure how bringing him back would be a good thing.

He obviously did great with Creative Cloud. Just look at todays financial results from Adobe. And cloud services is possibly the most important area for Apple going forward.

Adobe is a great company with great software and this guy has been along a big part of that ride and pushed hmself to second in rank. Putting his words about Flash aside this is obviously a pretty talented and well executing guy. Look at his actions rather than his words. He won't be holding keynotes anyway, at least for a couple of years.
