So I assume this accounts for the exasperating two hours I spent last evening trying to activate two HomePod mini's??? I was on the verge of taking them back thinking they were defective when one of them finally went through.
I would say so. My HomePod mini started saying it that it is not connected correctly to iCloud. I tried resetting it, but still same thing. Had to set it up with no personalized requests. Otherwise, the setup would fail.

Update: Apple's System Status page now says that the iCloud outage, including problems with Game Center, backup, Mail, storage, web apps, and Photos, has been fixed. That said, some Apple customers on social media are still reporting issues, so Apple's fix may not have resolved the situation for everyone yet.

Some of Apple's iCloud services appear to be experiencing an outage, based on a multitude of reports that MacRumors has received and hundreds of complaints on Twitter.

According to the Apple System Status page, there are issues with iCloud Backup, iCloud Mail, iCloud Storage Upgrades, iCloud.com, iMessage, and Game Center. Some users are unable to log into the iCloud website, and others are having trouble with app-specific passwords or are seeing a message about an issue with connecting to Apple ID servers.

There are reports about the iCloud issues from multiple countries, though it is not clear if all users are affected at this time.

Not fixed. Still happening.

Did you reboot?

Yep - tried that...

Files aren't syncing across my other Macs either. I've taken a screenshot on each and they've apparently uploaded, but not appeared on any other device.

I'm going out - maybe that'll work!

Out of curiosity: has this outage been felt globally or just in the US?
I ask as a US citizen who’s is currently down in Sayulita for the week and not yet experienced any of the reported issues on any of our devices (iPhone XR, 13 Pro, MBP, 2 watches & two iPads).

Globally.
I'm in the UK and it is still broken.
Intermittently I get the message to login to iCloud… Photos seems to be stuck in some limbo.

Still nothing on 12 mini. Tried everything including logging out, reset, even asked it politely but no luck. ?‍

Some of you may need to log out. The. Restart the device in hopes of grabbing a new cert for your login credentials.

I hugely wish that I hadn't logged my M1 iMac out of iCloud in an attempt to fix it. It was hours before I managed to login again, and my files still haven't reappeared in Documents or my Desktop.

Same issue here. Spoke to apple 3 times today and got disconnected each time. During one call I was advised to log out of my appleid and since then I’ve only managed to login briefly only to be logged out again. A lot of my data appears to have gone missing as well.

Yep, logging out without being convinced you’ll be able to log back in with everything working could end up causing far more issues.

It teased me by looking like it was letting me log in. I tried an iCloud backup several times and it won’t complete.

Back to prompting me to log in.

And here I’ve been waiting anxiously for 15.3 and 8.3 (AW).

Same with me, but that’s what I was advised to do. I really regret it as I’m missing all sorts of data now.

I wiped my damn iPhone because the Apple service status page said everything was resolved and the iPad was behaving itself. Can't restore it at the moment so it's just out of action until Apple fix this.

The guy on the phone when I called thinking my ID was broken got a polite but firm talk about how incorrect information is worse than no information when it comes to status boards.

All iCloud services are still not working for me. I can log into iCloud.com, but clicking iCloud Drive, Photos, etc., comes back with an error that it could not connect to the folder. I have signed in and out on my Mac, and it is still not working. The error on my Mac says it cannot connect to the server.

iCloud restore is working fine here, UK, London. If you are facing issues would be good to know your region.
