I often wonder what the hate about Apple Maps really is about. Has nobody ever used it or something? Outside of Waze, it provides the best directions, especially when involving 1-way streets. Google Maps always dumps you on the wrong side of buildings at intersections, facing a 1-way against the way you need to travel. Apple and Waze do not and instead put you on that 1-way in front of the destination.

Looks really cool. What a shame it’s not going to be available in my country in the foreseeable future :(

Totally agree. I don't even use Apple Maps anymore at all, only Google Maps which are so much better in almost every aspect. I am really tired of reading all the cool features only released in US (and maybe UK, Germany, China). Just like Apple Pay still not anywhere near getting released in my country.

I might care about this feature more if they would focus on fixing maps first. Business phone numbers are constantly the wrong number and even now Apple Maps says there is a Chili's next to my office that hasn't been there for over 7 years.... fix your crap and listen to feedback Apple!

But isn't it natural for them to focus first on their country of origin? I would not expect a company in Europe to first focus on customers in the US and then in their own country and the same goes for the inverse. As for Apple Pay, I can't see why Apple would hold back at this point and think they are mostly relying on regulators now.

But they left off the Atlanta airport, the busiest airport in the world?

Seriously? Public release of the feature is months away. This is proof-of-concept data, that was, no doubt, put together many months ago for internal/alpha testing. Nearly all the locations are close to Apple's home base, convenient to the small core of Maps staff and internal/alpha testers who would have been in on the secret. Now that the feature has been announced, the larger Maps team can be dispatched without risk of leak, and soon after the public beta rolls out, they'll have a wider range of airports and malls available for test.

I have every confidence that ATL and many other top airports will be mapped in time for the public release, and probably well in advance of of it.

Good feature but Apple is always a few years behind Google with stuff like this.

Yes, Google had a many years head start, but like most things, it looks like Apple's deployment will be more robust. Another example is Apple Maps transit, instead of just importing all of the information at once from the transit systems, Apple has taken a whole different approach to avoid the heavy criticism Google has endured from inaccurate transit info. Apple Maps Transit take a lot longer to roll out, but they are customizing each location and it's really a nice advance over what Google Maps is offering. The other benefit of course is that Apple doesn't store everywhere you go in a central file linked to you if you care about the dossier that Google is building on every one under your "universal identifier" that links you across all of their data.

Here's a detailed description of the two different approaches to Transit directions.

It's nice to see them adding new features, though it's a bit confounding they added this before adding a tab/layer for biking, a pretty huge omission from any map application.

Apple truly are the Bing of mapping services.

And it’s a great thing!

Look at Microsoft, had an even worse mapping service, that meant that Google didn’t even care to port their maps to Windows Phone, and was one of the main reasons the platform failed.

Apple, however, is doing a job good enough that Google cares to compete.

Malls? Meh - Big whup
Airport terminals - heck yes!
I can't stand having to search for terminal maps, food locations, clubs, etc. when traveling. This, if they keep the airport updated will be a nice feature. Now get this out before the end of the year!

I'm still having trouble with the purpose of maps... getting from point A to B..... too many mistakes, not updated frequently. Support takes months to make changes/correct mistakes.

I'm taking a trip from Boston to LAX and back. Kind of want the public beta just so I can have some good indoor maps for the airports...

I honestly think that this is a good idea, until all the locations decide to demand ads everywhere before allowing permission to use their layout data.

So I'll look forward to using this sometime in 2025 when my flyover state gets its first indoor mall map.

I am willing to bet that when IOS 11 is released publicly that the Atlanta Airport will be included. If Atlanta hadn't decided to try to out-stupid Chicago O'Hara with its layout it would probably be there now. It's a real confusing airport.

If this works well, it will be great addition for me. I pretty much try to use Apple Maps all the time now because I have CarPlay and the Apple Watch. It rarely lets me down, but this is one area that it was useless. Glad to see it coming along.

All this is merely to mask the fact that Apple is at the end of the line of innovation in main-stream computers. They have only the froth to work with now having deserted the pro and prosumer clientele. When millennials consider smart phones uncool it will all go down the pooper. And that can happen any day now probably when someone pays Beyonce or Taylor Swift and bazillion dollars to say they think social media is for dorks.

With the evolving of smartphones and tablets, there will be more and more people stop using computers.

What's a shopping mall.

A nest for Apple Stores.

But they left off the Atlanta airport, the busiest airport in the world?

Couldn't agree more. They decide where to put their Apple stores based on population, so why not choose which airport to map based on traffic?

I understand your frustration but they have to go where the biggest audience is first. The simple fact is that a much larger percentage of smartphone owners in the United States own an iPhone than in any other country.

A dead entity, that an out-of-touch Apple is again using to show its misplaced ideas of innovation.

The ones where Apple has placed their stores aren't dead. Perhaps you just aren't looking at malls in affluent areas.
