With the evolving of smartphones and tablets, there will be more and more people stop using computers.

I agree, somewhat sadly.

Programmers, Photographers, Graphic Designers, dedicated gamers, video editors are some of the people who NEED a computer. That number is shrinking every year. Already most people can do most of what they used to need a computer for on their tablet, and I'm being brand independent here-IPad, Surface, and the combo notebook/tablets that most computer manufacturers are pushing to compete with the tablets.

Games? People are mostly choosing Sony/Xbox/Nintendo for gaming. Is it as good as a high end computer? No. But people don't care. And you can use your tablet for gaming as well.

Surfing the internet? Tablets work as well as computers in most cases, they're portable and the batteries last.

Email/documents? You can read any email or document on your tablet. And with a light weight keyboard you can type on one as well. Most software either already is or soon will be cloud based. You don't need the resources you used to for word document and other software.

Are they perfect replacements? For a lot of people the answer is already yes and every 18 months, when new tablets arrive fewer people have a use for a computer.

How about a map to where I parked my car?

Already sort of exists right now. I rented a car 2 weeks ago that was equipped with Car Play. I got notifications, linked to a map saying how far the car was from me. I didn't click on the map and the next time I was in the car I told it to forget my iPhone, since it was a rental I didn't want it to have access to whatever it automatically has access to and I didn't have time to fool with it.

I don't know the limitations or if you can designate Apple maps to remember your car's position without Car Play, but if it isn't there already it will be.

This is a very welcomed feature to have.
Just visited LAX a couple weeks ago and the directory to restaurants was completely useless. I did not have all the stamina to run around the airport to look for every restaurant.

What's a shopping mall.

Where you end up if you get in a time machine and set it to destination: 1990.

Are airports out of touch too?

Given that Delta, United, Alaska, and American all have airport maps already integrated into their apps covering 97% of American Airports, I don't think it's really a gap in the market that needs to be re-done.

I'm taking a trip from Boston to LAX and back. Kind of want the public beta just so I can have some good indoor maps for the airports...

Presumably you're flying United, American, Jetblue, or Delta, all of which already have outstanding indoor maps of both airports built right into their maps. Are you really hanging out in the airport long enough that you NEED this feature to complete your trip? I don't get it.

Not gonna lie... I've had the Delta app on my iPhone for years (use it for boarding) and I've never once noticed that it had airport maps in the app.

The maps suck though now that I've opened the app and looked at the map section. Reminds me of MapQuest before Google Maps... just kind of clunky and slow. I expect Apple Maps will run much quicker.

Yep, Delta's is the worst. But if you download United's, it's nice. But it's not integrated into maps. I just wish Apple would focus on things that mattered, because clearly they seem to be strapped for R&D hours based on what they're pushing out.

It irks me that Apple Play is only available in newer vehincles and in most cases can't easily be installed in older cars without spending an arm and a leg. My wife has it in her 2017 Jetta and I'm jealous.

Neat.. :)

We need to expand to Hong Kong internetional airport,,, I always get lost in that place when i travel

I don’t know if I’m the first one to stumble across this or not, but in the latest iOS 11 beta if you zoom out in maps and tap on one of the 3D buttons you will be given an option to “flyover”. If you tap on the flyover button you will be taken into an AR based view that allows you to walk around while viewing the location of choice from a fancy bird’s eye view. It’s definitely in the beginning stages but it’s cool to see all these new uses for the technology.

Can users currently help to update this adding new locations and maintaining accuracy of existing ones?

More like the Duck Duck Go of mapping services.

Nothing wrong with Duck Duck Go, it's my default for search given its privacy first approach.

I wouldn't say it's a gap in the market but I think it's much more simple to have as much information all in one app and not have to hop from one to another.

for everyone not using the app or flying those airlines I think it's a good thing. Plus I look forward to it arriving in the UK, our airports are confusing as hell sometimes.

So you have landed in a supported, but unfamiliar, airport. You need to get to gate S24. Can Maps help with showing where you are currently and how to get there?

Was this supposed to go hand-in-hand with the iBeacon technology, so you could see precisely where you are inside a location? Is that still going on? Or am I mistaken?

Are we near a situation where our phone knows our precise location inside? On which floor too?

Inside of most airports your GPS reception is spotty to non existent. There was an announced plan to use beacons inside of malls/airports to provide location services but I haven't heard anything new about it for a long time.
