Probably safe to say unless Apple does 'Gold' on anything, it won't be popular item anymore. I was ticked off when i replaced my iPhone 6 and suddenly Apple swept the Gold version right out from under me :p when i just had one.

I tell ya. u gotta watch these people..

If they announce on Tue March 15th,
Pre-order on the Friday 18th, wouldn't delivery normally be the following Friday?
That's the weekend of Good Friday, Easter Sunday, Easter Monday... not many people getting deliveries that weekend.

Sure, let's add some 'power' to a 4.5 W CPU-based laptop to make the 15 W CPU-based laptops obsolete.

Maybe you don't understand how cannibalization works.

The Macbook Air eventually did so well that they killed the Macbook. Now, they introduce a new Macbook and an iPad Pro... why?

If Apple doesn't understand it's products by now, they are in trouble. And guess what... if it weren't for the iphone and iOS devices, they would be.

You can't create new categories of devices without killing others. So, either we have Macbook's or we have Macbook Air's.

The lines are completely blurred, now that they reintroduced Macbook's. The only problem is they suck. They suck really hard for the price they command. No ports and they are slow. I mean really slow. iPad's are so limited in functionality but I would use one of those over a halo product like the new Macbook.

The 12" Macbook is lighter than the 11" Macbook Air. The Macbook is $400 more than the Air, yet it is slower and has less ports. Oh wait, it has NO ports. At least the Air has some ports.

My point is, no one in their right mind would buy a slower, more expensive, Macbook over the Air. Why Apple didn't bring back plastic, or at least a thicker, Macbook, is beyond me. The whole idea of an iBook/Macbook is a laptop for the masses. The Air is nice and all but still isn't as useful as an old iBook/Macbook. Their laptop portfolio is fragmented beyond belief at this point.

Apple Watches, iPad Pro's and horrible Macbook's... Not the Apple most of us signed up for.

Yeah, too many evoke Steve Jobs but let's be honest, this "likely" wouldn't have happened under his watch. Apple grew into all the things he hated... and he helped it get to that point. He was no saint but he wouldn't have made the terrible choices that Tim and Johnny have made.

To all of the tech-experts in here who think the 5se is just a pointless minor bump that doesn't need an event:

My mother actually asked me about it the other day and I can promise you she is NOT reading Apple rumor sites. Not only did this news somehow get to her, she and my father are both very excited by the concept of this phone.

I can't even remember the last time she asked me about an Apple product before the official announcement.

Once again, the Mac Rumors forum posters make the mistake of thinking their needs are normal or average.

I would hardly suggest that most MacRumors users thinking is normal. A psychiatrist would have a field day here. :D

They were waiting for Intel, so how would switching to Windows help?
They're likely close to a refresh now.
Because computers like the new gold xps 13 with Iris graphics and new screen have the latest Intel processors...and touch screen, something I doubt Apple will ever incorporate in their computers. Just seems to me, IMHO, that Apple is becoming less of a computer company.

You are right, eventually. The first MBA was introduced in 2008. Apple stopped selling the Macbook in 2011.

The lines are completely blurred, now that they reintroduced Macbook's.
Again, the MBA was introduced in 2008, for three years the MBA and the (plastic) Macbook were sold in parallel.

And that wasn't the case when the original MacBook Air was introduced? Somehow the world has survived and Apple even managed to increase its PC market share.
My point is, no one in their right mind would buy a slower, more expensive, Macbook over the Air.
I am sure the millions of MacBook One buyers appreciate being told by you that they have lost their mind.
The whole idea of an iBook/Macbook is a laptop for the masses.
No, it isn't. It is for the subsection of the masses that can afford a $1000+ laptop.
Their laptop portfolio is fragmented beyond belief at this point.
Beyond belief? You mean about the same way it was between 2008 and 2011?
Yeah, too many evoke Steve Jobs but let's be honest, this "likely" wouldn't have happened under his watch.
You mean, Jobs did not introduce a $1800, thin laptop in 2008? He did not keep selling the Macbook in parallel until 2011?

I'm personally of the opinion that Apple needs to change its strategy. But who am I to say.

I think the days of the yearly upgrade cycle are over.

Developments in computing, rather doubling every year as per Moore's law, seems to have begun to halve.

When the developments become cosmetic such as they are now, then its up to Apple to ween its consumer base off of its yearly upgrade cycle down to more realistic timeline.

It's just not necessary for them to have events year in year out for their software and hardware when the changes are only cosmetic.

And that's not even mentioning capacities (16GB, 64GB, 128GB)... colors (space gray, silver, gold, rose gold)... etc.

It's still not as bad as cars though: multiple trim levels (DX, LX, EX)... manual or auto transmission... leather or fabric interior... sunroof or not... EIGHT colors... etc.

How do people deal? :D

I'm pretty sure the 3rd March announcement is going to be new MBPs, unless the straps has integrated sensors or that sorts, I doubt they'll make it as the "one more thing" product.

I use it as my main fitness tracker. But I don't do outdoor runs without my phone. I wouldn't even if the watch had a GPS inside.
I have to say that if the AW had GPS it would make it that much better. My AW has been sitting in the drawer because I refuse to wear my garmin for running and the aw for everything else. The AW has to earn its spot back on my wrist. (I do like the AW though......)

Ha, same. I have a friend who has been holding onto a broken iPhone 5, and she mentioned that she'd heard "the new iPhone is gonna be the same size as the 5".

I just upgraded to iOS 9.2.1 and it broke my Touch ID and devastated my battery life. Apple thinks the software update may have "exposed" flaws in the out of warranty hardware. I really hope they actually announce this phone whatever it is. Never knew how dependent I'd become on Tiuch ID. Now that I'm office bound battery life is nit that essential, but can't live like this.
Never upgrade more than 1 iOS version past what shipped with the phone. You'll be much better off that way. You still get "some" advances, and as long as you don't freak with an occasional frame drop here an there, you'll be good to go.

IMHO, 2 iOS updates is where the battery starts to take the MAJOR hit.

Apple have to have something up their sleeve other than just what is rumoured to be announced! Certainly think the Mac will get some love, and Apple TV

Oh come on, where is Apple Watch 2, surely you don't think version 1 has an 18 month upgrade wait.
It's possible if there are one or two parts serving as the bottleneck. For example, Apple could be trying to create a new processor that's way faster, but still as power-efficient. It may not be something that can be rushed. Or perhaps they are waiting for a killer software feature to be finished to complement the new hardware.

Anyone remember the iPad 2 -> iPad 3 fiasco, where the A5x processor was insufficient to power that retina display and was quickly "fixed" with the A6X of the ipad4? If Apple had waited half a year more, people wouldn't be stuck with the inferior iPad 3 and could have gotten the iPad 4 instead.

I don't mind slower update cycles if it means more significant improvements with each new generation.
