I'm on my fourth, it works very well for me. And always the wi-fi only base model.Sixteen years later not a thing has changed.

I’m glad to hear you say that. I skipped the original, trying to convince myself that my iPhone already does everything. But the second version was too good to pass up. You made me feel smarter 🤭Incredible device for its time, but what was really incredible was the leap from the iPad to the iPad 2. The iPad 2 was on sale forever and for good reasons. Awesome tablet for 2011. Way more functional than the OG iPad.
Agreed. It is just a "Bigger iPhone" but therein lays the genius of the device - it's a device that although nobody had seen, it was a device with which they were already intimately familiar with thanks to the iPhone.Yes. Today it is a big phone with multitasking. That is the utter genius of Apple.
I applaud you for being able to see the merits of the device even though it’s not something for you.I owned several iPads including the very first one. The first one was too heavy, but Apple finally got it right by the 3rd version with Retina display. I had iPad in my life in the hopes it would encourage me to read books. It didn’t happen and it ended up being a product category that’s not for me. I think iPads are amazing. They’re just not for me.
I remember that during the iPad 2 presentation Steve said that concurrence was not able to do something closer to the iPad 1 and they were presenting the iPad 2, which was better in every possible way. It’s a pity to see how things changed as now Apple is years behind of the rest in pretty much every new product lineIncredible device for its time, but what was really incredible was the leap from the iPad to the iPad 2. Time flies
If only they didn't cancel the Apple Car project...The iPad can now legally drive
If an iPhone fold comes out the price of an iPhone pro plus an iPad mini then insta-buy for me. Anything less than $1600.The question remains: are we going to have an iPad-price moment with Apple’s foldable?
I hope so. If we can hit sub-$1500 with 256GB of storage, it will sell very well. For me, it’s very difficult to justify for $2000 with a worse camera system. Hopefully the iPhone Air helped to reset Apple’s expectations of what people are willing to pay for a thin device that has a comparatively weak camera system for the price. Obviously the Fold is way more useful than the Air, but double the price? I hope not!I believe the key to the iPad’s success was the price.
Analysts were expecting the price to be between $800 and $1000; during the keynote, Steve Jobs even flashed $999 on the screen, hitting the price rumors head on. Everyone was collectively stunned when $499 was revealed as the true entry-level price.

The question remains: are we going to have an iPad-price moment with Apple’s foldable?
Yep, only iOS 4 and 5.According to Wikipedia, the original (1st gen) iPad only received two major iOS upgrades. Is that true?
The entry level is even cheaper now and that’s the one comparable to the original. So we are having better times nowThen… when the best iPad cost 499€ instead of 1449€ … good times
The next tablet I get will probably be an Android one. I have an iPPM1 now, which I'm happy with but I want to have a proper computer UI whenever I use it for laptop style stuff. So you either have Samsung Dex or Nomone Desktop with Debian. In that way you can get both great touch capabilities combined with powerful desktop usage. The iPad is one of the few items that has completely dominated its market segment.
The competition was initially non existent as they all essentially gave up when they saw the iPad.
The truth is all the iPad competitors are inferior even now. The locked down nature of the iPad could be seen as a strength, the consistent interface is a plus. The Android world is still the Wild West.
Xiaomi will provide zero ongoing support. No-one will know or care to fix hardware issues and OS support will be abandoned by Xiaomi at the first opportunity. The next tablet I get will probably be an Android one. Xiaomi is also making very powerful tablets these days.
