The next tablet I get will probably be an Android one. I have an iPPM1 now, which I'm happy with but I want to have a proper computer UI whenever I use it for laptop style stuff. So you either have Samsung Dex or Nomone Desktop with Debian. In that way you can get both great touch capabilities combined with powerful desktop usage.

Xiaomi is also making very powerful tablets these days.

The problem with DeX is you’re still running Android Apps. And though you have Apps like Office designed for tablets, after the basics the App ecosystem pales in comparison to the iPad.

The OG iPad aged like milk. I remember not being able to open websites after a year or two. And the YouTube app was a laughingstock. You couldn't download apps after that, it became obsolete too soon

I’ve got Air 3 and barely use it (only during journeys). MBP M2 Pro + iPhone 14 Pro is my daily set up and I don’t have any need to use another screen during the day to be honest. I am waiting for iPhone Fold, maybe it will ditch iPad completely from my set up.

I forgot about another thing which was insanely cool with my iPad 3 at the time, it was that it lacked any fans. Back then I was used to every laptop running rather warm and having pretty loud fans under just some load. Being able to use Garage Band and watch HD movies without the iPad making any sound or running hot felt like stepping 5-10 years into the future.

We take so much for granted these days. Having Apple Glasses run powerful software on an extremely tiny space(if completely self-contained) would likely be the next thing to give me that futuristic tingle again.

Yeah, you always need to check out what apps/functions you really need before purchasing any device. I've always felt that there's much more quality in the App Store vs Play Store. In a perfect world (to me) iPad wouldn't be as closed up as it is so that Linux tinkerers could code to their little hearts' content.
