Over one million dollars!

$400,000 to $450,000 to restore a balustrade seems a little excessive to me. If that's the amount it's really going to cost to restore it, a plan which didn't cause it to require restoring in the first place might have been a better way to go.

Sure Apple has the money to do this and then do it again and again a few more times over but 1/2 a million here, 1/2 a million there, eventually adds up to real money.

With regards to the last live stream, one 'expert' said it was the way Apple designed their webpage.

However, a lot of other experts have since doubted this and suggested that it was really down to the insane demand on the servers.

Here's a pretty sound technical explanation - http://youtu.be/sScqF2g4NSg?t=4m5s

Insane demand on the servers caused the Chinese translation lady's audio track to overwhelm the English track?

Some guy posts Slow News Day and the Apple fans go into full, combat defence mode - the MR Forum is hilarious.

Do they? Full combat defence mode over what?? Its got nothing to do with Apple - the guy just made an idiotically dumb post and was rightfully called out over it. Though I'm starting to think yours might be even worse.

Yeah, I agree Comcrap isn't the best but it's the only solution for everything cable and Internet for me. Now back to the regular scheduled programming...

I agree. But my post was specifically about their home security services - if you want to pay someone for that, there are others.

One question, can somebody tell me about that white building they built before the iPhone event? They never mentioned it and it seems that we are all busy talking about the product. Thanks!

Slow news day?

I personally find it a refreshing, "Apple-related" news story. Additionally, I'm tired of the incessantly regurgitated rumors on Apple products and rather like that MacRumors branches out into other relatable news stories.

However, there are so many dead horses around here that they beat to death, I'm surprised PETA isn't asking to have this site shut down.

I do lighting for these type of special events. Million bucks isn't that bad. Any time you start doing temporary structures the price goes thru the roof. Especially in Cali with all the permits, engineered drawings, etc.

I think the temp structure was for the demo area, yes. From the pictures even the inside looked gorgeous, like something from a spaceship or sci-fi show. I think given the status of the iPhone and the need for complete secrecy, the amount of money spent wasn't out of line. When you're making billions on the product, $1 million is pretty small for the introduction presentation.

Why do I get the idea that none of that actually went to the students or professors that were disrupted?

A better gesture would be for Apple to start a scholarship fund for those college students. Like if they are honor students, then Apple could give out a dozen scholarships/grants for students in the computer/tech majors. Students would need to apply and meet qualifications, of course.

Even a scholarship of say $5000 each goes a long way…. for a local community college in the USA. Local community colleges are way more affordable than major US universities (e.g. the University of California), so a grant/scholarship of $5000 will really help out those students tremendously.

maybe im missing it from the article but for how many days did apple rent the property?
