It really is nice of Apple to try, but yes, there are better options out there. The title of the thread is the understatement of the century.

Such truth. Steve would've never made the case for a case like this . . . . . questionable.

I have a good feeling he would've at the very least, made the case to be one solid battery all around like the Mophie options. The wart in the back is a bit odd and unsettling.

Steve would have made a case that had 10X the battery capacity and was ridiculously thin, you now the type of case others would say could not be made but thats why Steve was Steve.

I was referring to a hypothetical scenario, I thought that was clear. As in Steve Jobs is still alive, and people are complaining about battery life. I never said people haven't complained about the iPhone battery, I'd have to be living under a rock to suggest that.

I still disagree that SJ would have accepted this as a solution. His unrealistic expectation of what was possible is what drove Apple to the top in the first place. He would have insisted that "you're charging it wrong" while simultaneously snapping the whip to improve the battery for next gen. This is why the iPhone battery is better than ever and why they haven't made one of these cases until now, post SJ.

The SJ solution is not as good as this one.

they should of put a on/off button on it so you can turn if on and off when you need to charge ur phone.

I agree with you wholeheartedly. People just saw it once and dismiss is as ugly. But there really is no other better alternative if we are talking about "apple" to "apple". Apple design considers:
- docking layout
- antenna position
- signal booster
- notification for battery level
- charging

As I said, nothing is what it seems. People really need to take a second look, it will change their mind. It did to me.
there are a lot better alternatives to apples new iPhone battery case

Please elaborate. Saying there are a lot better alternatives without supplying any names and the reasons why, is pretty easy.

I mean, do you think that case is remotely attractive? or Justifies a 100$ price?

I don't think anyone is expecting anything extremely attractive when shopping for a battery case. I would, however, rather have a barebones design than make the entire phone that thickness. The bump makes sense, why would they fill the rest with extra plastic just to make it flat?

I don't understand the Verge reviewer's problem with the lack of a switch on the case. At any one point, you only have a given total amount of battery charged in each device. What difference does it make wether that charge is transferred to the phone now or later? It doesn't. This case is effectively increasing the battery capacity of the phone, not acting as a reserve battery pack to charge it later. You should always want as much charge being in the phone as possible.

no one wants to have the phone charging all the time when its in the battery case.and don't say that you can take the phone out of the case the when the phone is completley charged. no one wants to take the phone out of the phone every time the phone is charged.

A case is better than forced product improvement through innovation? Interesting. I guess only time will tell.

You buy a 500-700$ phone. You're told the next will have better battery life, which is good. How does that actually fix the problem for you, though? Your phone still has crap battery life. Heck, I switched from a phone earlier this year just because it had crap battery life even though it had quick charging. Next year's improvements don't mean much when you throw down that much money for a phone today.

That's a good point. It's better in the short term. I just hope this isn't their solution but rather a temporary fix.

next year the battery is even going to be even smaller if they take the head phone jack out of the new iPhone.i don't know why apple is so obsessed with the phone being to thin.they are going to keep making battery cases for the iPhone because apple likes making the phone so thin that they make the battery so small that you won't get a full days use out of the battery.

How can you know the next iPhone will have a smaller battery based on whether or not they have a headphone jack? What is the connection?

That doesn't make any sense. Why wouldn't you want the phone to stay topped off? If you keep the battery case on all the time, why does it matter which battery the power is in? You still have the same amount of battery life regardless.

most ppl don't want there phone to be topped off every time there phone is in the case.it just a waste of battery life for the case to all ways be on.

I just don't think you understand the mechanics of the charging. Nothing is wasted, you have the same amount of usage time regardless of which battery has the power. It doesn't matter if the case charges the phone now or later.
