Will love to see it, but honestly, I probably won't purchase a new iPhone until my 6s kicks the bucket. 10 years later though, the iPhone does deserve a radical update on its anniversary. I suspect Apple might pull a surprise and launch it on June 29 2017. So your iPhone 7 will be obsolete rather fast.

Incidentally, a nice example of fragmentation there...

For every case of a shattered iPhone panel, there's likely 100,000 (abitrary) people who have NEVER shattered theirs. It's called LOOK AFTER YOUR PHONE - glass shatters, metal bends, and people moan like crazy that plastic is "cheap" (well, the idiots do.)

Who do you blame when you drop your whisky glass - swarovski?

I never had this issue. Your mileage may vary. There are mishaps with Phones, don't blame the glass. So if I drop my iPhone 6s and the screen shatters, should I say "Back to this."
Chances something shatters on a glass backed phone doubles, if I got the math and point of the original post right...
[doublepost=1463701016][/doublepost]I guess the back will also be a display, or solar cells or some pressure sensitive glass, not just simple glass. 2017 will mark the rebirth of the iPhone, I can feel it! ;)

I am neither "in the know", nor am I an analyst, but I can immediately think of two possible reasons Why this may mean nothing...

Apple may have one design finalized and another not. This is particularly feasible if the physical designs differ as they do between the SE and 6 line.

Apple may be going with multiple suppliers, as they have done in the last with other components. Perhaps the supplier leaking the info had only been placed in charge of one of these parts. Surely the parts will differ based on screen size.

Of course this may also be totally non credible information that we are discussing pointlessly lol. 2017 iPhone is almost a year and a half away.

This one is probably going to be the first mainstream smartphone to cost a substantial amount of money to realign Apple's "premium" posturing. The cost will be justified, but not everyone is going to be able to afford it or want to put out the cash for it.

People will love it and loathe it at the same time; luxury.

Sounds like they are taking features from the Amazon Fire Phone (all glass), the Samsung S7 Edge series (wrap around OLED) and from a yet-to-be announced LG phone that incorporates an in-glass fingerprint reader! And, Apple will say how great of an innovation it was and that it's the best phone ever!

Samsung, LG and other companies provide components for Apple's iPhone. If any of these companies innovate their product and Apple uses the product in their iPhone they have no right to claim their new iPhone is innovative?

I shall totally blame the automaker for using glass as windshield because it is vulnerable to rock chips...o_O

My 4S is still flawless after all these years.

So is mine, so was my Mom's 4 before she finally upgraded to a 6s.

My guess is that it will be 5"
With an edge to edge screen it might even be smaller than the current 4.7"
And maybe a new 4" with edge to edge screen that is smaller and out of a different material.
I think the 5.5 is toast.

Glass fits in with Apple's current practice of recycling ideas, materials, designs and such. The big win for Apple is the way it fuels reactions from the emotional devotees that are already defensive. Dare anyone fail to praise Apple's choice the devotees swoop in launching personal attacks. The controversy keeps the focus exactly where Apple wants it. Besides its meaningless anyway since the Apple logo alone sells the device. Good, Bad or otherwise, Apple's likely to sell plenty of these.

This is what I don't get. Why so much on the 2017 model?

10th anniversary model. Instead of SE, we will have SJ.....

Actually, much of this gets to be be overblown, boring,etc...

Just give me a "widescreen iPod with touch controls"; a "revolutionary mobile phone"; and a "breakthrough Internet communicator" and I'll be happy.

“Sooner or later, everything old is new again.”

Stephen King

Just think I'll buy an SE just to be safe......

Should give me at least 3 years of future proof if Cook & Ive don't putz with it....

that's a dumb comment. If that's the case, then why don't you suggest Apple make it in Paper instead? and just blame the users for any mishaps.

it's called "DURABILITY"

I guess that 40% or less of iPhones that are made of aluminum will include this year's iPhone (iPhone 7?), maybe the SE and iPhone 6s as the budget options by the summer of 2017.

It always seems so strange to me that people complain about glass phones because the back might shatter. If you drop your phone you risk shattering the display, too. You should never be dropping your phone. If you find yourself dropping your phone frequently, buy a case.

Even if you're not clumsy, remember that it only takes one fall to screw up your day/week.

With all the stories about the 2017 phone, the introduction of the 2016 phone will be hilarious. This shows just how far behind Apple has gotten. How can Jony, Ted, and Phil keep a straight face while they feed us the BS about the 2016 phone? Savvy buyers and stock holders aren't buying it this time.

iPhone 7 rumour same body style - people go ape sh.t.

2017 iPhone rumour different body style - people go ape sh.t.
They are talking about fragmentation between models in the same year, not across years.
[doublepost=1463733269][/doublepost]
The one thing that is obviously nonsense in the story is the idea that Apple might return to offering only one size of iPhone.

Not unless they do a bezel less 5.5 phone in a 4.7 body (my 4.7" phone has a 5.5" diagonal body)

Accidents happen. I've dropped my phone but lucky it hasn't broken the screen.

Can't innovate my ass - audience pisses themselves laughing

haha

"Apple plans to adopt a glass body for at least one iPhone model set to debut in 2017"

And that's the only model Apple will see returned more because people wanna swing it round their heads and break it.

It will be surly be a differentiate. But maybe Apple now is knowing that "we will test the market with all casing iPhone, just to see how many reports we get back, Then based on that, we will change our next iPhone design*

Kinda like how Nokia *tested the market* by bring out the Nokia Navigator with voice in GPS software guidance (Roue66) software stored locally... then threw that concept out since they'd make better business by charging u for them, plus they also say how many would use local.

i have a tv, external monitor, laptop and tablet for consuming content on big screens. please don't punish me for not wanting the biggest phone, apple.
