Just make it out of thin black plastic. It is going in a case anyway.
Honestly, I thought the 5C models looked really nice in the polycarbonate, but maybe that's just me. While I love the look of aluminum, I think a plastic body does wonders for durability. I would totally love to have a iPhone that I didn't have a bit of anxiety not having it in a case.

I love the look of the 4(s). to me it was the Pinnacle of Apple's iPhone looks / Designs. It'll be interesting to see how Apple returns to glass front and back, while keeping itself differentiated enough from what Samsung currently has

The next move is to make the iPhone super light and bendable, so we wrap it around our wrist/forearm
like a strap.

Last time I tried to bend glass I was not very successful.

Only one glass model in 2017... meet the iPhone SE Plus. All new retro design.

Johny Ive: "With the iPhone SE we took cash cowing our old designs to a whole new level. Now with the iPhone SE Plus we're taking that one stage further. Taking the piss like never before. We've resurrected the iPhone 4 design and added a larger screen. We've also added a new colour, Apricot. Only Apple could do this and get away with it."

But srsly tho... Either would be quite the departure from Apple's historical trend.

Year 1: New design and internal upgrades
Year 2: Internal upgrades/no redesign

It's been this way since 2008. Any suggestion that this won't continue will, understandably, be received with surprise and reaction.

Well.... you actually forgot one year.
The year both the 5S and the 5C came out.... that was (on the year of the "no new design") the arrival of an entirely new product.
I don't know why it seems like I'm the only one thinking this... but I FULLY believe that iPhone 7 will come out in 2016, iPhone 7S will come out in 2017....... AND a brand new product; the iPhone Pro will also arrive in 2017.
Now that actually DOES have a precedent. A fairly recent one! Only, this time instead of during the 2nd iteration, offering a new product in the form of a cheaper option, it would be: during the 2nd iteration, offering a new product in the form of a more expensive option.

Exactly. They could set a particular combination of power and volume buttons to reboot the phone or even to take a screenshot
Sounds like Android.

Apple puts up a good front, but just like it's emotional devotees, Apple does make fear based decisions. They cling to the past, using an old tech, analog home button is so slow, vulnerable to debris and water. Yet they seem to fear a modern capacitive button even though the entire touch screen is of the same technology.

Apple certainly is unique

They have no choice but to return to that famous design in order to get back on the right track. Sometimes the best way to get ahead is to go old school.

I suspect the SE was a hint from Apple that the next phone models ( all of them ) will have flat edges. Rounded edges don't cut it anymore.

It always seems so strange to me that people complain about glass phones because the back might shatter. If you drop your phone you risk shattering the display, too. You should never be dropping your phone. If you find yourself dropping your phone frequently, buy a case.
It's still cheaper to replace the screen only and not the screen AND the backplate.

Well, I'll upgrade regardless of materials used because I've had 4 years of nothing but good experiences with Apple products. I don't really care how the device looks as long as it performs as advertised, and I've never had any problems in that regard.
What? Someone who gets it! I don't whine and cry about how it looks or what it has in it. As long as it does what I need it to do I'm happy and will upgrade yearly as long as I have the ability to do so.

I'm sure that everybody who has ever owned an iPhone has dropped it at some stage.

You thought the last iPhone was slippery? just wait till you get a load of this one1 it gives slippery a whole new meaning!!

Dude stop it I have dropped my 6 and 6s many time and the back has never break

I agree. I just recently replaced a 4S with a 5S...and while it works a bit better - and is (marginally) nippier, the 5S just isn't as nice to look at or hold at all.
