Me neither, especially not at those prices. In 3-4 years when I need to replace my phone and my iPad mini I would finally consider it, but it's really cost and feature dependent. There's no way I'd buy one of those foldable phones at that price when they feature worse camera functionality. At this stage the two selling points for any phone for me are a) battery life b) camera quality

Having had a foldable it's more that the crease gets worse and eventually can kind of crack and become pretty unsightly after a year of use. I would assume that Apple's is better and would make it last 2-3 years at least but real world testing can be kind of different.

After recently viewing the newest Samsung Fold I can say that the crease is mostly gone however is visible under certain lighting reflecting Samsung is making screen for Apple so we have an idea of what to expect

Generally how this works for a novel technology part like this is that Apple designs the part (or in some instances, the specifications the part needs to meet) and then contracts to companies like Samsung to manufacture the part following Apple’s design/specifications.

In other words, while it’s likely true Samsung is “making” the display, it’s not true that Samsung is “designing” the display.

I’m going to head to Best Buy at some point soon to check out the Z Fold 8. I’ve never so much as touched a foldable before so I’m very interested in getting a feel for the form factor and an idea of what to maybe expect from Apple. I’ve followed some ZF8 posts on Reddit and, as someone who has never and will never use an android, I must say I am super impressed with it, it is clearly an amazing device and I’m really excited to check it out 🙂

Samsung has had a foldable phone for years. Does it work? Yes. But there are limitations on the quality of the workmanship and durability. I’m not calling Samsung’s folding phone sub standard. But as executed it wouldn’t meet Apple’s standards.

Apple doesn’t rush things like this to market. They let the technology mature a bit, see where market trends go and let their competitors absorb the first rounds of real world use to see what works and what doesn’t.

Then, when Apple decides to “do” a certain tech like a folding phone they’re perfecting a relatively mature technology. Apple’s folding phone won’t be perfect out of the gate. I have no doubt and to be honest it’s not for me. I’m getting and 18PM.

But Apple’s execution of the technology will be state of the art. It will bring features to the table that those early execution competitors didn’t. Then those competitors will copy what Apple perfected.

technically this will sit in the lineup above the pro, so pro features+folding etc would make sense

that said I suspect the pro camera systems will be too bulky for the folding phone for years to come no matter what, product segmentation aside

that's kinda how I've been thinking about it. My 16 Pro will last me a while, and by the time I'm ready for my next phone, which I do want a foldable for, the creases will have been ironed out, so to speak
